IU basketball transfer portal player profile: Miami guard Nijel Pack
Indiana’s 2025-26 roster will be built this spring by new coach Darian DeVries, who will navigate the transfer portal to assemble his first team in Bloomington.
Inside the Hall will examine some of the prospects linked to the Hoosiers this spring. Up next: Nijel Pack.
Numbers to know
122 career games at Kansas State and Miami: 14.3 points, 3.1 points, 3.0 assists and 1.1 steals per game in 32.5 minutes per contest. Pack is a career 43.3 percent shooter from the floor with marks of 40.3 percent from deep and 82.7 percent at the free throw line. He started in 121 of his 122 career games.
Background and potential fit
Like several other Indiana portal targets, Pack’s connection to IU start with his high school playing days in Indianapolis.
A four-star prospect out of Lawrence Central High School in 2020, the 5-foot-10 Pack didn’t garner much interest from high-level programs despite his label as one of the top players in the state. He only visited Belmont and Kansas State and chose the Wildcats.
Pack immediately started and was the Wildcats’ leading scorer for a 9-20 team his freshman year. In 33.5 minutes per game, Pack produced 12.7 points, 3.8 assists and 3.7 rebounds on 41.8 percent shooting and a 40.5 percent mark from deep.
Despite Kansas State’s struggles continuing the following season, Pack took a leap. He averaged 17.4 points per game along with 3.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists and posted career-highs of 45.5 percent shooting from the field and 43.6 percent on 3-pointers. The Wildcats went 14-17 and fired Bruce Weber at the end of the year.
Pack entered the transfer portal and signed an NIL deal with Miami (FL) worth a reported $800,000. One of the top players in the portal, Pack chose the Hurricanes over Purdue and Ohio State.
On a stacked Miami squad, Pack averaged 13.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists on percentage marks of 44.1 from the floor and 40.4 on triples in 31.6 minutes per game.
The fifth-seeded Hurricanes hit another level in March. On a Final Four run, Miami knocked out Trayce Jackson-Davis and Indiana in the round of 32, and Pack scored 26 points on seven 3-pointers against No. 1 seed Houston in the Sweet 16. The Canes lost to UConn in the national semifinal.
In his fourth season, he produced similar numbers. In 32.5 minutes per contest, he averaged 13.3 points, 3.6 assists, and 2.6 rebounds on 40 percent shooting from the field and 35.7 percent from deep. He missed seven games due to knee issues and Miami regressed, finishing 15-17 and missing the postseason.
This past season in his fifth year with additional eligibility, Pack posted 13.9 points, 4.3 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game in 31.2 minutes per game. However, he suffered a right ankle injury after just nine games and never returned to action. Coach Jim Larranaga retired in late December.
Pack is seeking a medical redshirt for a sixth season and entered the portal March 31.
A score-first guard with proven efficiency on high volume – he’s attempted 11.8 field goals, 6.4 3-pointers per game – Pack could provide a scoring punch in the backcourt.
Indiana is in the mix for the Indianapolis product. According to Jeff Goodman, IU joins Kansas, Oklahoma, Clemson and Kansas State as suitors.
