IU basketball transfer portal player profile: Tulane guard Rowan Brumbaugh
Indiana’s 2026-27 roster will be rebuilt this spring by second-year coach Darian DeVries, who will navigate the portal with executive director of basketball Ryan Carr and the Hoosier coaching staff.
Inside the Hall will examine some of the prospects who could make sense for the Hoosiers to pursue out of the portal. Up next: Tulane guard Rowan Brumbaugh.

Numbers to know
98 career games at Georgetown and Tulane: 14.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.4 steals in 31.3 minutes per game. Brumbaugh is a career 36.1 percent 3-point shooter, 80.6 percent free-throw shooter and shoots 42.8 percent overall from the field. He started all 67 games he played at Tulane over two seasons and 20 of 31 games as a freshman at Georgetown in the 2023-24 season. Brumbaugh has one season of eligibility remaining.
Background and potential fit
Brumbaugh, who lived in New York City, Massachusetts, Brooklyn and Washington D.C. in his childhood, was a member of the 2022 recruiting class after playing his prep career at Northfield Mount Herman School in Massachusetts.
The 6-foot-4, 185-pound guard signed with the University of Texas after finishing his high school career as the No. 89 player nationally in the 247Sports Composite rankings. He chose the Longhorns over offers from Georgetown, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Maryland, Miami (FL), Minnesota, Mississippi State, Oregon, Penn State, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and several others.
Brumbaugh redshirted his lone season at Texas and transferred to Georgetown for the 2023-24 season, where he put up 8.3 points in 22.3 minutes per game while shooting 37 percent on 3s.
His stint at Georgetown, however, was brief, as he entered the transfer portal in the spring of 2024 and committed to Tulane, where he starred for the past two seasons under coach Ron Hunter.
As a redshirt sophomore in the 2024-25 campaign, Brumbaugh earned first team All-AAC first team honors and led the Green Wave in scoring, assists and steals. He averaged 15.5 points, 4.8 assists, four rebounds and 1.6 steals and shot 35.8 percent on 3s as Tulane finished 19-15.
Brumbaugh returned to New Orleans for his redshirt junior season, improving his numbers to 19.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.6 steals in 36.1 minutes per game. He made nearly six free throws per game and his ability to make the 3 and also put pressure on the rim off the drive made him one of the premier guards in the American Conference. Over the past two seasons, Brumbaugh ranked in the top 10 in the American Conference in assist rate.
With the portal now open, Brumbaugh will be one of the more sought-after guards in the country. He can score and create for others and can play on or off the ball, making him a solid fit for any team that needs an impact piece in the backcourt.
While Indiana is reportedly one of many schools that have expressed interest in Brumbaugh, he will also test the NBA draft process to get feedback on where he stands. Given the loss of Lamar Wilkerson and IU’s need to upgrade its guard play ahead of year two of the Darian DeVries era, Brumbaugh is a name to monitor as the portal activity intensifies over the coming days and weeks.
