A look at how 11 former IU basketball players are performing this season

More than 10 former IU basketball players are active across the sport this season, including several in the Big Ten.

Here’s a look at how every former scholarship player for the Hoosiers is performing so far this season:

Kaleb Banks, DePaul

Banks, who averaged 14.7 points last season at Tulane, has started two of four games this season under Chris Holtmann at DePaul.

The 6-foot-8 forward is averaging 6.3 points, three rebounds and is shooting 27.3 percent from the field in 18.8 minutes per game.

Kanaan Carlyle, Florida Atlantic

The 6-foot-3 guard from Atlanta has started all four games for the Owls this season. Florida Atlantic is 3-1.

Carlyle is averaging 12.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.5 steals in 30.3 minutes per game. He is shooting 39.5 percent from the field and 27.3 percent on 3s.

Gabe Cupps, Ohio State

Cupps, who spent two seasons in Bloomington, is firmly in the rotation for the Buckeyes, who are 4-0. He has logged at least 15 minutes in each of Ohio State’s first four games.

The Centerville, Ohio, product is averaging three points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 steals. Cupps is shooting 25 percent from the field and 16.7 percent on 3s.

Logan Duncomb, Winthrop

The 6-foot-10 senior from Cincinnati, who only played sparingly last season, has taken on a bigger role for the Eagles.

In four games – all starts – Duncomb is averaging a solid line: 12.3 points and 5.5 rebounds in 21.3 minutes per game. He’s shooting 48.3 percent from the field. Winthrop is 2-2.

CJ Gunn, DePaul

A preseason third-team All-Big East selection, Gunn is a go-to scorer at DePaul.

The Indianapolis native, now listed at 6-foot-7, is averaging 15 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.3 steals in 28 minutes per game. Gunn is shooting 40.4 percent from the field, 20 percent on 3s and 82.4 percent on free throws. DePaul is 2-2.

Dallas James, Morgan State

The 7-foot-1 senior from Artesia, California, has started all four games for the Bears, who are one of the ten worst teams in Division I.

In 10.5 minutes per game, James is averaging three points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.8 blocked shots per game.

Mackenzie Mgbako, Texas A&M

The former McDonald’s All-American and five-star prospect has yet to play this season for the Aggies after offseason foot surgery.

Texas A&M is 2-2 with losses to Oklahoma State and UCF.

Jakai Newton, Georgia State

Newton missed the first two games of the season, but returned on Nov. 10 against Presbyterian and started the last two games against Fort Valley State and Arizona State.

The Covington, Georgia, native is averaging 9.3 points, five rebounds, 1.3 steals and an assist in 22 minutes per game. He’s shooting 24.2 percent from the field, 21.4 percent on 3s and is 9-for-9 from the free throw line.

Malik Reneau, Miami (FL)

The lefty big man from Miami has scored 20 or more points in each of the first four games for the Hurricanes. Miami is 3-1.

Reneau is averaging 21.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and a blocked shot in 26.3 minutes per game. He’s shooting 52.5 percent from the field, 25 percent on 3s and 84.6 percent from the line.

Myles Rice, Maryland

Rice has appeared in just one of Maryland’s four games this season.

After missing the season opener against Coppin State, he scored 19 points to go along with seven rebounds, an assist, a steal and four turnovers against Georgetown on Nov. 7. He missed Maryland’s two most recent games against Alcorn State and Marquette with an ankle injury.

Bryson Tucker, Washington

Tucker started the first three games for the Huskies, but missed their most recent contest at Washington State. Tucker rolled his ankle and is expected to miss multiple games.

In three games at Washington, the 6-foot-7 Maryland native is averaging 9.7 points and 7.3 rebounds in 26.7 minutes per game. Tucker is shooting 46.2 percent from the field and 41.7 percent on 3s and is 0-for-3 on free throws.
