6-Banner Sunday: IU basketball is 3-0 to begin the Darian DeVries era

Welcome to another edition of 6-Banner Sunday, a joint production between The Assembly Call and Inside the Hall, where we highlight the five most essential IU basketball stories of the past week, plus take a look at how the other IU sports programs are doing.

IU Athletics continued its success across all sports this fall. The men’s basketball team has fully transitioned to the modern game under new head coach Darian DeVries and is currently 3-0.

Also, football and women’s basketball won games this week. We will conclude with weekly shows and a look at the rest of the Hoosier sports in action, which was highlighted by volleyball remaining on track for its first NCAA tournament bid in 15 years.

Banner #1- IU tops Marquette at the United Center

Under new IU head coach Darian DeVries and a new roster, Hoosier fans were promised a more modern offense that emphasizes the 3-point shot. So far, so good as Indiana continued its hot shooting and ball movement to pick up its first signature victory this fall in Chicago against Marquette.

Indiana used the long-range shot (14 makes) to roll to a 100-77 win. IU’s top players Tucker DeVries (who was honored by the conference) and Lamar Wilkerson each hit six triples and scored 27 and 23 points, respectively.

Afterwards, DeVries spoke, Ryan Corazza wrote a The Minute After and Film Session, Alex Bozich penned Five Takeaways and Josh Pos put together a column about the outside shooting.

Banner #2 – Hoosiers crush Milwaukee for third win

The stellar shooting showed no signs of slowing down as IU returned to Bloomington. This time, it was mid-major Milwaukee who got the Hoosiers’ wrath as they rolled to an easy win after a slow start.

Indiana once again made 14 shots from long range to roll to a 101-70 victory. Wilkerson once again had a huge night, going for 24 points with five 3-pointers.

Afterwards, DeVries spoke, Inside the Hall had a photo gallery, Corazza wrote a The Minute After and Film Session, Alex Bozich penned Five Takeaways and Quinn Richards penned a column about Tayton Conerway who had a huge night.

With the season now well underway and the future looking bright, IU takes on Incarnate Word. The matchup is today at 5:30 p.m. ET on BTN in Assembly Hall.

Banner #3 – Football beats Wisconsin to remain unbeaten

The football Hoosiers still have their highest ranking ever at No. 2.

This week, Heisman favorite QB Fernando Mendoza had another huge afternoon, throwing for 299 yards and four touchdowns. As a result, IU rolled to a 31-7 win in their home finale after a slow start, to improve to 11-0 under Curt Cignetti.

Banner #4 – Women’s basketball survives against Marshall

The women’s basketball team experienced significant roster turnover this offseason as well. However, they did return two program stalwarts in Lenee Beaumont and Shay Ciezki.

Ciezki (who was honored by the conference) has been excellent in the first three contests, scoring 70 points total. She is the main reason her squad has been perfect to open the 2025-2026 campaign.

While it was a struggle, Indiana ultimately came out on top 57-51 against Marshall. Led by double-doubles from Ciezki and UCLA transfer Zania Socka-Nguemen, the Hoosiers survived a fierce Marshall press to improve to 3-0.

IU has its first significant test of the season at 5 p.m. ET today on the ACC Network. They will head to Tallahassee to play Florida State. Looking down the road, the Hoosiers landed the best recruiting class in program history for 2026.

Banner #5 – Podcast on the Brink and Back Home Network shows

Inside the Hall’s Podcast on the Brink returned this week. On it, Corazza joined Alex Bozich for a discussion of IU basketball’s strong start.

The Back Home Network has several new shows. As a result, it was on air many times this week as well with programming.

Banner #6 – Hoosier Roundup

• Volleyball got back on track after a slip-up against Wisconsin by dominating Oregon.

• Wrestling beat Columbia.

• Cross country competed at the Great Lakes Regional Championship.

• Softball announced its upcoming recruiting class.

• Men’s tennis had two of its athletes qualify for the NCAA’s.
