Quick thoughts on a 76-74 exhibition win against Baylor:

Key moments in Sunday’s exhibition win

Lamar Wilkerson keeps Hoosiers close with strong first half

A pair of free throws from Wilkerson had IU within one at 14-13 with 12:46 to play in the first half.

Baylor quickly created separation after and looked like it might run IU out of Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

IU’s offense stalled, and the Bears showed their athleticism, taking a 28-15 lead with a 14-2 run. The Hoosiers struggled to keep the more athletic Bears out of the lane on straight-line drives and off of the offensive glass.

But the Hoosiers had a strong close to the half, in large part to Wilkerson’s scoring. The transfer guard from Sam Houston led all scorers with 16 points in the opening 20 minutes, including a 7-for-7 mark from the free-throw line.

Despite trailing by 13 twice in the first half, IU trailed just 41-36 at intermission after outscoring Baylor 18-10 over the final 7:42.

Wilkerson finds his perimeter shot early in the second half

Indiana outscored Baylor 12-4 in the first four and a half minutes of the second half to grab a 48-45 lead by the under-16 media timeout.

Wilkerson, who did most of his first-half scoring damage from the free-throw line, was hot from the perimeter early in the second half.

The senior guard hit two 3-pointers early in the second half, one from well beyond NBA range, to fuel a strong open out of the locker room for the Hoosiers.

Conerway’s late bucket propels IU to victory

After Baylor’s Michael Rataj split a pair of free throws with just over 12 seconds remaining, Tayton Conerway made a game-winning play for the Hoosiers.

The transfer guard from Troy picked up the ball near midcourt and drove into the lane for a bucket and drew a foul. Conerway missed the ensuing free throw, which gave the Bears a chance to win.

But Cameron Carr’s 3-pointer rimmed off, giving the Hoosiers the narrow win in front of 4,507 fans.

Standout performers

Wilkerson led the Hoosiers with 28 points on 6-for-15 shooting from the floor and a 13-for-13 mark from the free-throw line. Tucker DeVries added 18 points on 7-for-15 shooting to go along with six rebounds and five assists. Conerway finished with 15 points and five assists.

Statistics that stand out

Indiana shot 20-for-21 from the free-throw line and just 6-for-24 from beyond the 3-point line. Baylor grabbed 16 offensive rebounds and scored 18 second-chance points.
