Introducing Josh Pos

Editor’s note: We’re excited to announce that we’ve hired a new writer, Josh Pos, to the Inside the Hall staff. Josh is a senior at Indiana University at the Media School. His work will begin appearing on Inside the Hall this month.

A piece of paper remains engraved in my brain. It reads, “Section K, row 19, seat two. Assembly Hall. Indiana Basketball vs Bryant. November 9, 2012.”

There was a buzz in the building. It was the regular-season opener for the top-ranked team in the nation. Among the 17,222 packed inside the building, sat a father and son duo from the Chicagoland area, who had not yet seen a game together inside Assembly Hall.

My memory of the game itself is hazy, but the joy of being fully immersed in the Indiana basketball experience still reigns true 13 years later.

Despite my roots being in the Land of Lincoln, I grew up a Hoosier. It didn’t matter whether it was a basketball game, a football game, or even a water polo match – my dad and I were locked in. Together, we would consume content from all outlets about Indiana, especially from Inside the Hall.

Throughout middle school and high school, it was widely known that I would be attending Indiana to study sports media. After the acceptance email turned my dream into reality in the fall of 2021, I was eager to start my long-awaited journey in Bloomington.

Three years later, my fandom has simmered, but my passion for Indiana remained steadfast. I still consume all forms of media surrounding Indiana athletics; however, I’m now one of the many journalists who tell the stories surrounding Indiana.

Heading into my freshman year, I was unsure of what I wanted to do. Whether it was play-by-play, television reporting, or writing, I planned to seize any opportunity that led me to cover Indiana basketball.

In the early weeks of the second semester, Jerod Morris of Assembly Call allotted me an opportunity to write recaps on the site for baseball. The 2022 baseball season allowed me to find my newfound passion for writing, but more importantly, it taught me how to be a sports reporter. Asking questions to players and coaches in the midst of one of the most successful seasons in the Jeff Mercer era eased my nerves and reassured my feelings of becoming a sports reporter. Though the season ended at the Lexington Regional, my journey in the sports media landscape had just begun.

Sophomore year was pivotal. The foundation had been laid, but I still had many goals I wished to fulfill. I received my first opportunity in the television landscape, serving as a beat reporter for Indiana men’s soccer and baseball, roles I continue to hold today.

During that year, I secured a position as a men’s basketball reporter for Assembly Call, where I wrote postgame articles for various games throughout the 2022-2023 season. A dream came true, but there was still much to learn. Although I wasn’t covering every single game, I became fully immersed in my work, meeting new people, and becoming a better writer and reporter.

Last year, I covered men’s and women’s basketball as well as football for TheHoosier.com. Over the summer, I had believed that covering men’s basketball full-time for the first time was the destiny I had been waiting for. However, as it was for most Hoosiers across the country, football season was the single best four months of my young career.

As I enter my final year of college, I have been fortunate to earn the opportunity to work at Inside the Hall, covering not only men’s and women’s basketball but also football.

Though football coverage is new to the site, I am excited to be telling the stories of what is shaping up to be another exhilarating season under second-year coach Curt Cignetti.

Before the season begins, there will be stories previewing what to expect from both sides of the ball, in addition to coverage of Big Ten media days and fall camp. (You may notice a brief hiatus from fall camp coverage while I’m in Puerto Rico covering IU basketball’s three exhibition games in August.)

Throughout the season, expect multiple articles and videos leading up to gameday, previewing the week’s storylines. There will be coverage recapping the games.

Securing a job for a site that I’ve long considered the best coverage of Indiana basketball is just the start. There is work to be done to continue to raise the bar that Will Foley, Matt Press and Kevin Vera set so high with their coverage last year,. Still, I’m excited for the opportunity to provide the best coverage for Indiana fans, a dream 13 years in the making.
