Incoming IU basketball guard Aleksa Ristic opened play for Serbia on Saturday in the FIBA U20 Eurobasket 2025 in Heraklion, Greece, with a solid performance.

The 6-foot-4 Ristic scored 11 points in 27 minutes as Serbia beat Iceland 90-76. Ristic was 3-for-10 from the field and 5-for-6 from the free-throw line.

He dished out a team-high seven assists and added a rebound while committing two turnovers. Serbia was +14 with Ristic on the floor.

“Aleksa is a versatile guard that can play on and off the ball,” IU coach Darian DeVries said last week in a release announcing the signing of Ristic. “He is a competitive kid that has high-level experience playing in FIBA events. We think he has the ability to handle the basketball and make plays out of the pick-and-roll while also being an efficient shooter that will add tremendous depth to our backcourt.”

Serbia and Iceland are in Group D along with France and Slovenia. Up next for Serbia is a meeting with Slovenia on Sunday at 11 a.m. ET. Serbia will complete group play against France on Monday at 1:30 p.m. ET.

Should Serbia advance past the group stage, bracket play begins on Wednesday.

Ristic, who turns 20 in September, will join the IU roster after the FIBA U20 Eurobasket 2025. The FIBA U20 games are all being live-streamed on YouTube.
