Welcome to “That’s A Wrap,” our player-by-player recap of the 2024-25 Indiana Hoosiers. Our player recaps continue with Langdon Hatton.

Previously: Bryson Tucker, Kanaan Carlyle, Mackenzie Mgbako, Myles Rice, Malik Reneau, Anthony Leal

Bellarmine transfer Langdon Hatton was one of the final additions to the 2024-25 IU basketball roster.

Hatton, a 6-foot-10 center from Georgetown, Indiana, committed to the Hoosiers on May 15, 2024.

“Langdon is an experienced, versatile big man that will help us with our frontcourt depth,” Mike Woodson said in a release announcing the signing of Hatton in May. “He is a big body that can work in the post, get after the glass, and step out to knock down a shot. He is an Indiana kid that plays the right way, and we are excited to bring him home to the Hoosier state.”

A graduate of North Harrison, Hatton played his freshman season at William & Mary before transferring to play for Scott Davenport at Bellarmine for two seasons.

In his second season for the Knights, Hatton showed an ability to step out and knock down the occasional 3-pointer. He shot 15-for-45 on 3s for Bellarmine in the 2023-24 season, averaging 10.5 points and 7.1 rebounds in 27.8 minutes per game.

With Oumar Ballo and Malik Reneau in front of him in the rotation, Hatton knew he would be a backup entering the season. For most of the season, he was on the fringe of the rotation in Bloomington.

He scored his first points in an IU uniform in IU’s blowout 90-55 win against Eastern Illinois on November 10. He took just one shot, scored two points and added an assist and rebound in six minutes.

Over three games at the Battle 4 Atlantis, Hatton logged 17 minutes off the bench and scored 12 points. Most of those points came from the free throw line as he went 8-for-11 from the stripe over three games, which included a pair of losses to Louisville and Gonzaga.

Hatton did not play in IU’s first two Big Ten games, a home win against Minnesota on December 9 and a road loss against Nebraska on December 13.

With Oumar Ballo sidelined for a December 29 tilt against Winthrop, Hatton logged a season-high 26 minutes in a closer-than-expected 77-68 win. Hatton shot 1-for-3 from the field, 5-for-6 from the free-throw line and finished with seven points and 11 rebounds.

“Thank God for Langdon. I thought he played his butt off,” Woodson said after the win. “Gave him the game ball. Here is a guy who never complains. He works in practice. He came and gave us a big lift when we needed it. That’s all about team. That goes a long way with me.”

Statistically speaking, his most notable game after the Winthrop game was eight points in a blowout loss at Iowa on January 11.

After logging five minutes against Ohio State on January 17 in Columbus, Hatton only played in three of IU’s final 13 games, logging a total of seven minutes. His final appearance in an IU uniform came in a 78-62 win at Washington on March 1. Hatton made one free throw in less than a minute of action.

Bottom line: Hatton’s limited role at Indiana was not a surprise. He was recruited to be a depth piece in the frontcourt behind Ballo and Reneau and that was the role he served.

Quotable: “Being from Indiana, it’s just a dream to even be on the team. So when your number gets called and you get a play, it’s like a dream come true. So it’s pretty awesome. Just excited to be able to help the team out.” – Hatton after IU’s win against Winthrop on December 29.
