9th in the B10 would make me mad.  I don’t think that will happen.  Athlon, who are you?

  • They’ve put out preview magazines since 1967, I believe. One of the better ones out there each year in my opinion.

I’ve never heard of athlon sports in my life. Sports are becoming a bit too much like dungeons and dragons (which I know nothing about so maybe not) with computer nerds and mathematicians taking over.

So many websites (not this one I enjoy this one) and magazines with no clue trying to come across as experts.

I sort of miss the days were the information was limited, it made me more excited for the season to get here

Hah…if you haven’t heard of athlon sports then you probably don’t have a very high awareness relative to sports journalism….not saying I read the publication on the regular but if you really follow sports and preseason hype/reviews you’ve heard of Athlon.

Secondly, we can’t all get upset every time a rating agency lowers a recruits rank or projects us to finish toward the cellar again and start screaming foul and question the legitimacy of an established, credible publication. Take it for what it is: an educated guess. I doubt the editor is a Purdue fan, which I’m sure will be a claim made in these comments at some point this evening. The wins and losses will speak for themselves. Hopefully at the end of the season we can point at this Magazine and say “HAH!” …..until then, don’t lose any sleep over this.

    Go Hoosiers.

I think we will be better than 9th, but can you blame anybody for picking us that low after back to back last place finishes?

    Alex,
do they print a copy for each state?  I can’t believe all Indiana school are on their only cover?

NIT I buy, but I think we’ll do surprisingly better than 9th.  Maybe I just want this badly, but I really think we will turn out better than PU this year…not seeing why they are being given so much credit in many places.

Ninth in the Big Ten would be a major set back!  Ninth might see some changes of heart from the 2012 class as well! Not thrilled with 7th but that’s my call.

  • Aceman_Mujezinovic_07

This actually makes me a bit happy to read this.  I worry that IU will get too much hype and have too many analysts and experts picking them at 5th, 6th, or 7th and thus put too much pressure on this team.  I think it could help the team to be picked poorly and undervalued this year.

It doesn’t help us as fans at all because we all follow IU basketball with WAY too much attentiveness and we all know that IU has the talent to be better than 9th.

As was been mentioned above, Athlon goes back quite a few years and is fairly reputable.  Just because you haven’t heard of them doesn’t discount their opinion that you happen to disagree with.

But yeah, 9th is some bs.

  • Jamescmorris11

i’m with you. i don’t think we’ll be that low

  • PKP

I agree with Garrett. Just because I haven’t heard of them doesn’t mean I should discount their opinion. I should discount their opinion because they are flat out WRONG! Maybe they were talking about the football team?

  • There are regional covers, yes.

I think we should definitely finish above ninth.  Also, I don’t think a tourney bid this year is too far fetched.  Although I think a few things would have to go our way.

I am the Great Athlon, I know it all and I don’t have to be accountable for anything I write because I’m a lowly paid dreg. If I throw enough poop on the wall, eventually some of it will stick and I can tell you I’m a genuis.

This publication can kiss my athlon.

    kidding kidding

They are known more for college football. Not hoops. And they don’t nail those predictions very often either.

I know this will be unpopular, but I don’t think 9th is out of line for a mag to publish.  Now, I disagree with it, but look at the conference.  IU is obviously better than Minny, PSU and Nebraska.  IU is not as good (on paper) as Wisconsin, OSU and MSU.  That puts us in the middle six: Michigan, Iowa, Illinois, NW, Purdue and IU.

Evidently, Athlon thinks IU is the worst of that group.  I happen to believe that IU will finish 7th or 8th.  I think IU will finish ahead of NW, and they could finish ahead of any of them, if everything goes our way (for once).  I think best case is 6th place, but 6th probably gets us in the NCAA…7th or 8th, the NIT.  I have no problem with that.
