I assume that Thomas has seen the writing on the wall with regard to CTC's recruiting priorities (Cody and B.J., or another big man and a PG), and has adjusted his interest accordingly. It's too bad, in a way; he seems like a good kid, and he'll light it up for whomever he plays.

  • marchus

jeremy hollowell's latest tweet sounds like great news for us…. if he commites then Patterson commits and then _____ commits and then ______ commits and then ________ commits lol

  • GFDave

2011 has become the YZ show (excepting of course Austin), what with Young and Zeller really being the primary targets with no comparable players behind them. I guess coach is feeling pretty good about things, but it makes me a little nervous. Especially considering how long we have to wait for everything to play out.

  • With the amount of players visiting IU recently, it seems that we might be getting a commitment before too long. A peegster reported that his sister also saw Eric Gordon with DJ and a number of EG All stars including- Zak Irvin, Devin Davis and Basil Smotherman. Who will break the ice.

  • Kelin Blab

I do know JHollowell has spent alot of time with EJ recently and hopefully he has talked up IU to him. Something good has happen for this program soon with one of these recruits.

  • BaseballBuc

I have my sources that facebook stalk and on Bryson Scott's page he says “IU just offered me.” Someone then comments on it with “Boiler Up.” Bryson then responds by saying “Boilermakers? Nahh.” I never take these things seriously but you never know. I thought I would pass that around.

  • Diesel

I was interested if any more was said from his twitter, so I clicked on it and it pulled me to his page. Got a good laugh, a few tweets earlier someone got jeremy on the gallon of milk in one hour trick. Of course, he threw up. Kelin, hopefully EJ wasn't up to that.

  • Diesel

Big fan of the Trey Lyles offer. I do believe Crean was the first to offer him, and they were pretty impressed that CTC spent the last day of the 1st July observation period by flying down to Orlando to watch Trey and his team. Haven't seen him play, but have read plenty about him in the paper.

  • GFDave

Next to the Star article was a video of him dominating much smaller opposition. One thing that did impress me a sequence when he brought the ball up the floor under some pressure. Not bad.

  • HoosierDavey

I believe I saw EJ at the College Mall today, so that could well be true

  • marcusgresham

It's like one big recruiting Prell commercial. “And they'll tell two friends, and they'll tell two friends….” Sign 'em up!

  • Andrew

Does anyone else find it funny that there's a blank space for Guy-Marc Michel's height? Never seen that before on a roster. They have his weight listed, but apparently his height is indeterminable. He has Bawa's number, also.

  • eph521

His tweet suggests interest for sure… and Neddenriep's article on the Indy Star points to Hollowell choosing between IU and Ohio State – and soon. Momentum seems on our side with this kid.

  • Diesel

I get what you are saying GF, but in the 8th grade that would have impressed me. It certainly is a statement from CTC. Looking forward to catching a lot of these kids play this year.

  • Even though he currently lives in Indy, he calls Ohio “home.” It's awesome that we're in his top 2 and I'd love to have him in candystripes, but I think we need a healthy dose of caution with our optimism kool-aid.

  • We're making up a bit of ground with the 2013 guys because Painter has offered most of them (he could focus on those guys because his 2012 class is pretty much already wrapped up, while Crean had to put in a lot of time with the 2012 guys in July).

  • Love it!

  • eph521

I'm not sure I consider this drinking kool-aid. I think it's realistic given he's clearly stated it's down to OSU and IU. His tweet indicates his Mom was in Bloomington discussing his grades – that indicates a serious interest in attending IU. You may want to check out the Indy Star article too, it doesn't say he's coming to IU, but it does suggest he's seriously considering IU and only OSU is a serious contender besides IU. In case you haven't seen it:

Mo Creek 19th??? People still underestimate Indiana

  • eph521

I love Creek too and 19th is a little surprising. However, looking at the list, I'm really not sure where I'd put him – maybe around #10? I'm struck by how deep the B10 is in talent and the kids on that list have proven themselves in the B10… Creek just hasn't had the chance yet.

  • JerryCT

I am not sure where Creek will end the season but you said it yourself …. he is not proven in the B10 ………………..and therefore I am shocked he is even on the list. Jones and Watford would not surprise me .

  • eph521

Maybe you're right about him even being on the list. I think I'm projecting him to be a superstar, so I'm already “giving” him a Top 10 ranking. But if you go by his play in the B10… oh yeah, he hasn't played a B10 game yet… so maybe 19th was generous? I'm guessing the 'ranker' put him ahead of the other IU players because they're blinded by his potential too.

  • JerryCT

The Drew Cannon piece is really worth reading. It makes you think about how we need to deploy our players especially on defense

  • Thanks, yeah, I saw that article yesterday. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the fact that it's down to IU and OSU, and I LOVE the fact that his mom visited IU recently, but I just wanted to infuse a bit of caution into the discussion. We've come in second place enough in the past couple of years that I'm a little gun shy. I'm optimistic, esp. about players like Ron Patterson and Perea, but I'm exercising a little more healthy skepticism with Hollowell (and CZ too).

I guess I've got it stuck in my brain from a couple of months ago when he called Ohio “home” and not Indiana. I'm not saying that we have no chance, but I'm not going to take it to the bank that he'll be in cream and crimson in two years.

  • stonaroni

I think this will be CWAT”s breakout season. I could see him avg 16 ppg and Creek right there along with him.

I really think IU will be better than the national media has projected this year.

If VJIII can be solid, Creek is back, CWAT improves, Elston improves, and Guy can be a nuissance in the paint, we will be in for a winning season and probably about 18 wins.

  • Hardwood83

That is what I'm counting on- improvement that comes with better depth & experience. I don't think anyone would turn down an 18win/over.500 season.

  • JerryCT

I like your thoughts but I suspect to hit 18 wins we are going to feel like EVERYBODY had a breakout season incl CTC.

Better yet they are all due for one.

  • marcusgresham

Too bad it's not XYZ—-this team could use Xavier McDaniel

  • MileHighHoosier

Am I crazy to think that Hollowell and Perea are Hoosiers? With the news that Perea is moving to Indiana and the twitter last night from Hollowell that his mother was at IU talking grades, I feel IU is far and away in the lead for both these players, who, personally, are my #1 and #2 guys for 2010. (Perea #1, Hollowell #2.)

Please, someone lower my expectations if I'm way off here.

  • marcusgresham

He's like a pro wrestler now, shrouded in mystery. Maybe he'll play with a mask on and they can introduce him “From parts unknown…”

  • wonder

Dont really understand the Chris Allen situation but it has to make new recruits notice, maybe wonder? A coaches whim and I could be gone? Bet Kenny K is wondering a little?

  • Like the optimism, but I wouldn't say far and away lead at this point.

  • Plane1972

Did anyone else notice Steve McClain's name mentioned at the end of Katz's article in regard to the vacacy at UI-Chicago? Seems like he is an outside possibility, but would be a real disappointing loss. He appears to have been a real shot in the arm for our recruiting efforts.

  • BFowler

I have a friend who worked the scorer's table for Decatur Jr. High home games, and he coaches one of their baseball teams at the high school, and he told me Trey was the real deal. He told me Coach K, one of Roy Williams staff, and Coach Crean had been to Decatur Middle School to watch his games. He said that Trey was impressed with Coach Crean, but told him that if Duke or UNC offered, he would lean that way. Of course, a lot could change in four years.

  • MillaRed

A lot of us are giving McLain some love but “Where's the beef?” Until I see some steak on this fajita I got nuttin to say. Somebody sign for the love of God!

Chris Allen is a big loss. I'm thinking lack of Final Four type of loss. He would be the best player on our team IMO.

I like the fact Mo got some respect but he's not healthy. I still think he may be a year away from being the player we all expect him to be. Which is fine. We aren't doing anything too special in 2010 anyway.

This was all good stuff thanks Alex. But if I don't see a commitment soon I'm heading to Bloomington to get one myself!

  • Outoftheloop

If Coach Crean is unable to get the commitments of both Cody Zeller and/or BJ Young, then we will all rue the day when we quit working to get the commitment of Aaron Thomas!

  • Outoftheloop

This needs to be Coach Crean's breakout season. IU needs to win games, lots of them , some of them against good teams, some of them in the closing minutes with clutch play!

And Patterson and Jurkin and Yogi!

  • Outoftheloop

Coach McClain needs for IU to have a BIG year and for Guy M to play well. Then we will lose him, but not to a UIC, to a big name school in the Big East, the SEC, or the PAC. His goals are much loftier than UIC!

  • millzy32

Amen Brother. All this we were in the running or we were a close second for this or that guy is getting old. Will someone at least give us a verbal or something.

  • BaseballBuc

Zeller has officially narrowed his choices to Butler, IU, and NC. Raise your hand if you saw this coming.

  • Kelin Blab

Getting Zeller would and not Young or Thomas would erase the sting of anything that happens to IU this year, other than going winless.

  • Garyindiana_311

got to b-town late last night. took a stroll around cook hall (sweeeeeeet.), could not see the players scrimmaging but i could hear them. when i was leaving they all came out of the building to run laps around the assembly hall parking lot. waived at mo creek, he responded with a peace sign. awesome day.

  • stonaroni

I hope Zeller sees the potential in signing with the Hoosiers. He will one day have whatever job he wants post basketball. He will be an absolute idol in Indiana for being one of the Indiana guys who helped turn IU around (Hulls, Elston, AE, Zeller, etc, etc). And…..for 3 to 4 years he will be a starter for the university he grew up cheering for.

Or… he can go to UNC and play 1 year with his brother and then spend the next 2 to 3 years away from home and competing for a starting job every year.

Is his decision that hard? UNC is a top 3 program, but to me there is more risk there to stay on the floor. At IU he will have a following that he will never find anywhere else.
