Sheehey to play for Knicks in NBA summer league

Former Indiana forward Will Sheehey wasn’t selected in Thursday’s NBA draft, but he’ll still get a shot to play in the NBA.

After working out for 10 teams in the pre-draft process, Sheehey had some second round interest, but didn’t hear his name called.

He’ll now have to play his way onto a roster and he could get that chance beginning in the NBA summer league with the New York Knicks, according to his high school coach, Adam Ross.

“Sagemont’s Will Sheehey will play for the NY Knicks in #NBASummerLeague,” Ross wrote on Twitter. “Chasing that dream. Don’t bet against him.”

The Knicks begin summer league play on Friday, July 11 at the Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas. Several games will be broadcast live on NBA TV.

As a senior at Indiana, Sheehey averaged 11.4 points and 4.0 rebounds per game and shot 33 percent from 3-point range.

He finished his career in Bloomington with 1,120 career points.

Was hoping the Pacers would draft him with their 2nd round pick.

    Congratulations and best wishes Will.

The Knicks have a lot of needs to fill and maybe even bigger needs if they can’t keep ‘Melo. He’ll have an opportunity to work under an awfully good coach and I certainly wish him the best.

  • He is far better than me.

He has a better chance of sticking with a cruddy team like the Knicks than he does with the Pacers, though.

Agreed. Love Will, but whose spot would he take on the current Pacers’ roster? He’s a relentless worker, but this is the NBA. It’s a whole different animal than the Big 10 where Will didn’t exactly light it up last season. I hope he makes the NBA, but I suspect his best bet will be in Europe.

Love it. Wanted Knicks to draft him. Now at least they have him on summer roster. Phil wants cerebral players.

Go for it Big Will! Good luck!

  • according to his HIGH SCHOOL coach? what happened to his college coach?

I’ve been wondering why CTC is not supporting / speaking out on Will. All information comes from his HS coach.

Good luck Will! Follow your dream! You will be an asset to many NBA rosters!

The Pacers have a very weak bench! Who is their shut-down defender?

  • Oldfan

    Coach has been really busy.

  • marcusgresham

He has graduated. If he’s gone back home then that would probably be one of the first people around when he signed.

  • It’s NY, not FL, but regardless of where he was or where home is, big news is just a text message away. Why did Crean not get this text or if Crean did get the text, why did he not tweet/post/write about it like a proud coach would?

Lot of players use their high school /AAU mentors for information distribution like Will has. Looking for problems where there aren’t any? I’m sure TC has done his best to talk with teams who call about Will’s strengths and weaknesses. Right now coach’s priorities better be with his new group of freshmen. Will has an agent..father and former coach all involved in his efforts regarding the NBA.

Will has a very slim chance of making a NBA roster….he is not a scorer …not a rebounder…will have hard time guarding NBA 2/3s…wasn’t invited to Portsmouth pre draft invitational…

  • darkblueclouds

What exactly are you implying? That most NBA teams have a shut down defender off the bench? That WS could be that guy? Not following your point at all.

At the very least he will out work everybody there and maybe catch the eye of another team if N.Y. isn’t interested. Good luck Mr. Sheehey wish ya the best.
