As I sit in a meeting, blatantly not paying attention and watching this video, I am still thrilled with this hire and what having an NCAA player of the year and 13 year NBA veteran on the staff can do to help this team grow and recruit.

Alex, other than not being able to recruit off campus what are the restrictions on Calbert in the Dir. of Ops position?

I understand those who may doubt CTC’s coaching over the last three years but there is no doubt that this man “gets” and understands IU basketball. This is an absolute home run and in terms of building an overall program Crean is currently writing the textbook. Crean deserves credit not just for rebuilding the basketball personnel but in resurrecting the entire program.

I think it is really good to get Calbert back in the program not just because he was a great player for Indiana, but also because he was here when Indiana Basketball was still Indiana Basketball.  He knows what it takes to be successful at IU and in the B10.  It was said in the press conference that he can not be utilized on the court.  I think within the next year or two, that will change and Calbert will be an assistant coach.  This will allow him to help develop players in the program and add to it by recruiting.  Outstanding hire by CTC.

Wonderful hire.  To bad we missed the boat on Dane Fife.

And what is Creans issue not wearing short sleeve shirts ever?  LOL

So awesome, I just love Calbert.  What a great guy, what a great player.  Really miss those days and just watching him up there with Tom REALLY makes me miss those days. This hire is great and I really feel that Calbert will eventually be brought up as an assistant coach.  It’s no secret that Benny is searching for a head coaching job and of course Steve has already been a head coach so its probable that someone will be leaving in the next two to three years.  I would love nothing more than for Calbert to be an assistant if that is what he is searching for.  The perfect guy and the perfect moment in time!!

Clearly, Tom Crean is concerned about public safety…  he doesn’t want anyone to get hurt from getting too close to his guns.

How do you top Kevin Wilson’s hire??? Calbert Cheaney back at Assembly Hall. Thanks CTC!!!!!

  • I just wonder if he still has the whip

  • Plane1972

Memory from my time on campus – Spike Lee speaking at IU Auditorium. He comes out with a whip, cracks it a couple of times and asks a student to volunteer to deliver it to Coach Knight’s office and tell him I said: “That s#!t ain’t funny.” Some imbecile in the front row accepted the challenge, but I doubt very seriously the whip ever made it to RMK’s office. At least, I don’t recall ever hearing of a student being killed by a coach within Assembly Hall. I may have missed that headline.

Exciting times at IU, great to have you home Calbert! Best of luck and hope to see you groomed for that top job one day after Crean has had a historic run as the head of a reinvigorated program shooting back to the top!
