Holy guacamole Batman, we have ourselves a basketball player. This kid is going to be scary when he adds on 20lbs of muscle.

  • Kelin Blab

    My first thoughts….
+ He could play for us now
    + Duncan like Footwork
+ Long term could go the Garnett way or the Durant way.
+ NCAA should let freshmen ‘sign’ as freshmen….listen they let Cam Newtons dad shopped his son..why not….?
+ So if I get this correct 2014 we could be looking at:
    G- Ferrell Jr. 5’10
    G- Etherington Sr. 6’6
    F- Lyles Fr. 6’10
F- Perea Jr (Perea could be gone but you never know) 6’9
    C- Zeller Sr. 6’10

    Off the bench…..
    Soph-Hartmann 6’7, Soph D. Davis 6’6, Jr. Patterson 6’3, Fr. Blackmon 6’1, Jr. Jurkin 7’1

This looks like an actual team

Can this HS frosh come down to Bloomington now to give a clinic for our current bigs? Or for our coaches? TL: “This is a drop-step. And this is a jump hook.” You would think somebody on the staff would have helped out TP with SOMETHING by now.

  • The weird thing is, TP had those moves his freshman year.

  • Anonymous

Don’t blink, because you won’t see him in Bloomington too long I’m afraid.

I think Damon Bailey’s HS scoring record could be in jeopardy.

Love the change in music at the 3:00 mark.

  • That 2014 line-up, even without Gary Harris (or any additional 2011/13/14 commits) is just scary. Please, 2014, get here soon.

  • Kelin Blab

That is a great point, not sure if Harris cracks that starting lineup…..need another PG I believe. Etherington will be better than advertised like Sheehey.

  • Anonymous

Wow…just WOW. Seen lots of highlight videos. They’re usually a series of fast break and put-back dunks (ahem..Bawa). But this? Wow.

  • Not that I’ve seen either player live, but I have to believe that Harris would be in that line-up. And whatever “advantage” we have by putting Watford at the 3 (or would have had if Guy-Marc had been cleared) will be obliterated by putting Lyles at the 3 in that line-up. Lyles already has the footwork that Watford doesn’t, and he seems to be a bit more nimble with the ball. Dude.

I think we have no idea how much we miss Guy in our current line-up … man, that decision changed a lot of things (including trying to land another big in 2011). I think the lack of Guy has already cost us a couple of games.

Oh, man, I start to salivate just watching clips of Trey! He is like an uber-talented Christian Watford. Same size and build but a slightly better athlete already and WAY, WAY more skilled. I don’t even think he’s completely grown into his body either! I think he’ll gain athleticism as he gains strength and coordination.

The best move of that whole video is the clip where the kid sets up to take the charge while Trey is dribbling down the court full speed at him. Trey just side steps and goes right around the kid and maintains control enough to lay the ball in. That is a heck of a move. I’m also very pleased that his shot is so high. He shoots it a foot over his head from the outside!

  • With the potential 2014 line-up KB proposed, we might only need him for one year.

Are you serious? Who is Kevin Noreen? I wouldn’t be surprised if he grew more. Most high school freshman do.

  • And, clearly, there are not 140 freshman that better than Oladipo or Sheehey… further evidence of the scouting services with a swing and a miss.

  • Noreen’s a guy IU was rumored to be chasing back in June and there was some report that his doctor’s said that his growth plates were still open (he was 6’10”, I think)… it just sounded like bogus science to me. It’s 2011, guess it’s time for me to let that one go.

This kid has great ball fakes. He’s 6-9 which does’t really require a lot of ball fakes with his competition but he does them to create additional space.

Can his coach come to B-town and have a discussion with Watford about this so we can cut down on the blocks this year?

  • Aceman_Mujezinovic_07

Oh, okay, I remember him. It wouldn’t surprise me at all to see Lyles pick up an inch or two though. He looks like he’s still got a lot of baby fat on him and could still grow. How sweet would it be for him to end up as tall as Tim Duncan with that same skill set?

Could he also possibly be a Tim Duncan type player who obviously had the talent to go to the NBA but chose to finish school? We can only dream!

  • Anonymous

Yeah that’s the most frustrating part about Pritchard. We’ve seen him do work down low when he was younger and inexperienced. Now he can’t seem to do it anymore. Weird.

  • Anonymous

I have to ask. When are these games played? Southern Indiana stands would be packed even if the team was terrible. The attendances at these games looks similar to a good girls team’s attendance.

  • Anonymous

It’s ridiculous to compare a high school freshmen to NBA hall of famers, but…

Wow this kid is good. His handle and athleticism make him look more like Garnett. I absolutely love the fake he does a couple times driving in the lane to his left and turning around for the 5 footer. He can really handle the ball (as much as I had heard about it, great to see it). And his jump shot looks pretty.

This kid is a beast. Not a high potential/athleticism future type recruit but a already really good with big-time moves not just relying on size to score recruit. Amazing.

  • Kelin Blab

    Nice…where is our boy Noreen?

  • Kelin Blab

Welcome to class basketball 2011. Tons of talent in this state..I have not been to a sellout in over 10 years.

  • There is only one thing now we fans need to do to see IU Championship teams in the latter half of this decade.. and that’s to stay alive. When he shoots he makes it seem so effortless that he probably would have the energy to play a couple of games in a row. I noticed sometimes that his teammates seemed to relax as well as soon as Trey had the ball. Hey I just tried Trey’s shot with our mini ball in the game room. I missed knocked over a unfinished can of Diet Coke and our cat fled to a safer spot. I guess my kids think I need to clean it up too. Great prospect.

  • Aceman_Mujezinovic_07

It’s probably an IPS game. Their crowds are not good.

  • Aceman_Mujezinovic_07

You know, when I stop and think about this season it’s been a really, really weird season!

Every time you think you have it figured out what IU needs the most (i.e. big man, PG, slashing guard) they play differently and you’re left wondering again.

For instance, after the UNI game it looked like we really needed a PG. Then Colorado dominated us down low and really made it look like the need was at the PF/C position and the guards weren’t as bad. Then, against PSU, their guards dominated us and they outrebounded us making it look like we were lacking in both. Then we go to Minnesota and the bigs hold up pretty well against a huge team and the guards do a fairly good job as well.

It probably means that the team is lacking in all areas but have enough talent to compete when guys play at their highest level, but it’s weird how this team has went back and forth this year with who is struggling at the time.

It seems like as soon as someone starts to play well (VO for instance) someone else starts to really struggle (Watford about the same time VO broke out). It sort of gives you the feeling that if the team ever hit it’s stride and got everyone going at the same time, they could actually be a pretty decent team. Think about it . . . if VO had been around and playing as well as he is now against BC that game may have been a different game. Get Watford, Hulls, VO, JR, Jones, etc. playing their best ball during the same stretch and we’re back to thinking we can beat anyone at home again.

I wonder if it’s going to happen where this team hits their stride? It seemed to happen a little last year right at the end of the pre-conference schedule and the first few games of the Big Ten so maybe it will come later this season???

Have Azur put together a highlight video of Pritch (not including practice) doing post moves and I’ll believe it!

Wow, this kid is polished! Can’t wait to see him in candy stripes. He’s gonna be a great one. I’m goin to enjoy seeing him develop over time. other than some weight/strength I’m not sure what more he can add to his game.

  • PBR Streetgang

What impressed me the most is that it wasn’t until the 2 minute mark that he dunked. Dunking is not difficult. It’s learning to take the short shots (as well as the long shots) that will make him stand out when he gets to D1 and is playing against people his own size and/or bigger/heavier.

  • Mike K

What’s left for Trey? Perfecting his dream shake?

  • Anonymous

I even see some Hakeem Olajuwon with that dream shake he showed multiple times in the lane. Very soft touch around the glass. But let’s remind everyone that he’s shooting over the defense. Let’s wait till he can do it against someone 6’10 as well.

  • Anonymous

I don’t even think it was a swing and a miss on these two but rather a called strike !

  • Anonymous

At LEAST a couple probably more.

  • Anonymous

His footwork seems to have been good in every clip I have seen of him which makes me think that there is some validity to it when his dad and coach say he has took it upon himself to become a student of the game. I don’t care how naturally gifted a player is you aren’t just born with footwork like he has.

A little off topic and at the risk of opening back up old wounds.

    Colorado over # 9 Missouri 89 – 76 and

    Penn St over # 18 MSU 66 – 62

Gives me at least some hope that this team can possibly still salvage this season somewhat.

  • kristheboss

Does anyone remember the shootings at an Arlington and Broad Ripple games in the past couple years.. thats why IPS attendance is low, when you go to MIC or Marion County teams playing each other the place is usually packed…

Kelin the North Central v. Lawrence North, or Chicago Loyola (MJS kids team) both were sold out as well as just about all the big games we had my jr. year.

  • Anonymous

Trust me, the former Purdue player coaching Trey Lyles has very little to do with his ball fakes. Lyles has been receiving attention for quite a while. He is a special player. I walked into a game of his earlier this year, sat down and took all of 5 seconds to pick him out in the warmups. He is the kind of guy that stands out and commands attention. I love his fluid and fundamental game, finishing skills (not usually dunking), dribbling, and defensive discipline. He has it all and should only improve each year until he arrives in Bloomington for a short year.

  • Anonymous

Better than an actual team. These guys would be bonafide top five material. This is definitely a lineup to get excited about. I truly hope this happens, it will make the last three years more than worth it.

  • Kelin Blab

It also says the Penn St. Team that beat us is better than expected.

  • MillaRed

Having Trey on board, while watching the current Hoosier team, makes me feel like the guy that met the really hot girl, but she hasn’t figured out I am not really cool at all. So I am doing the best I can to hang on.

He is one and done. And I don’t care.

I really hope the NCAA gets that 2-year rule enforced. Would love to see him as a soph.

I can’t believe this kid is a FR. I haven’t seen many seniors this good. McDonalds All-American all the way.

  • Anonymous

Exactly my point and right now I’m looking as hard as I can for anything positive.
