2012 Intro: Jeremy Hollowell

The Essentials: 6-6, 195-lb forward for Lawrence Central and Eric Gordon Central Stars

The Schools: Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Ohio State, Tennessee and Xavier have offered scholarships. Florida, Louisville and Michigan have expressed interest.

The Numbers: 17.0 ppg and 8.0 rpg for Lawrence Central, which finished 8-13.

The Leaders: Hollowell told Mike Pegram of Peegs.com at the adidas May Classic that Indiana and Ohio State are two schools that stand out. Hollowell is originally from Ohio.

The Quote: “They (Ohio State) might have a little edge because I’m from Ohio. But it’s the same with Indiana, too. I’m still keeping it open.” – Hollowell to Kyle Neddenriep of The Indianapolis Star.

The Scout Says: “Thanks to his performance in Bloomington, Hollowell’s stock is on the rise. A near 6-foot-6 wing with a pretty complete game, things seem to come easy to Hollowell. He handles well enough to create his own offense, has size to post up other wings and he can shoot the ball with range. He’s also a competitor who is willing to take a tough defensive challenge and help out on the glass.” – Rivals.com analyst Eric Bossi on Hollowell’s performance at the adidas May Classic.

My man Mitch is gonna be a Hoosier. Heard from a reliable source it could happen soon.

  • marcusgresham

Kind of starting to get tired of the state of Indiana having to supply Ohio State with half its players

  • GFDave

I have hopes that the end of that is coming.

  • Outoftheloop

What is your source for this?

  • Kelin Blab

Hollowell is going to OSU. Therefore I will comment no further on his recruitment.

  • Diesel

The videos on the previous thread showed some impressive shooting touch from beyond 3, this video shows some pretty good ballhandling for a big. I'm very impressed with Mitch, and I'm very ready for some verbals.

  • Diesel

I'm not so sure with Hollowell….he seems like whoever is hot when he is ready to commit is where he'll go, get the feel he is looking for a Teague kind of situation with a lot of publicity.

  • Kelin Blab

Can't see my man mitch committing to IU before zeller and Crean being cool with that. I like Mitch too but he does not have an IU offer yet.

  • Diesel

Agree with that, Zeller definitely getting first dibs. Just anxious to see the 11 and 12 classes shape up to see what the future holds. I think the first in line for a verbal is 2012 Kenny Kaminski at the end of July but he seems like a MSU lean, although Russel Byrd is a very similar player. Everyone else seems like it will be into their school year for the 2011's and the late verbal trend will continue.

They have also been real open with Mitch about getting his grades up, hopefully his school year ended well….wonder if he'll end up in a prep school type situation.

  • GFDave

According to both Rivals and Scout My Man Mitch has received no offers from any school. We've also been hearing that he needs to work on his grades. I doubt that he has made substantial progress in that regard in such a short period of time. Not saying he can't or won't do it, just saying it takes time.

  • Kelin Blab

I think alot of these kids are going to sit back and wait for the one thing that has held IU back from landing some of these kids and that is wins wins wins. That is why I was all for Crean using his scholly's this year even on Guy in an effort to solve that issue. You have to win. There is no reason IU should lose kids to some of the schools we have lost them too….but the one factor is wins.

IU wins this year and looks like a potential tourney team in 2011 and or 2012, you will see the floodgates open. If IU goes to the NIT this year it will be huge for the program.

    IU has the facilities…check
    IU has the coaching stability….check
IU has the fan support….double check
    IU now has upperclassmen…check
IU has a foundation of talent….check (Elston, Mo, Watford, Hulls, VJ3 etc)
the one thing IU has not been able to offer are wins!

  • GFDave

I agree and think the NIT is a reasonable goal. The B10 is very tough again this year and so winning the games we are supposed to win is going to be huge. We are also going to have to use home court to beat some teams that are better than us.

  • Outoftheloop

    Very good points.

  • Outoftheloop

I think my man mitch shows that Crean has got it together on the recruiting trail. He's actively recruiting Zeller, but if he doesn't land Zeller then he's got Mitch to fall back on (who seems like a pretty good player in his own right).

I think the 2011 class (ignoring the scholly issues) will be a 3 man class of:
    Etherington
    Thomas or Davis
    Zeller or Mitch

Even if IU doesn't land Zeller that still makes a pretty good class

  • IUfanPurduePhD

The more I see of Mitch, the more I like (esp. the rebounding and running the floor).

  • aceman07

I wouldn't be disappointed though! I've actually liked McGary for a while and would almost prefer that type of big to Zeller. He still runs the floor well, is an excellent rebounder, and has a good handle for a big but he doesn't seem to be in love with the outside shot quite as much as Zeller. He has great range for a big but seems to be a bit tougher, more of a banger.

I wouldn't be depressed at all if he ends up being the big we get in the 2011 class!

  • GFDave

I think you've got it pretty much nailed. A guard, a wing and a post, fries and a shake. vbg.

  • Outoftheloop

    That sounds good!

  • MillaRed

You know what Kelin? In terms of landing a top recruit based on wins and losses I really don't want Crean or anyone else to use that as an excuse. CTC was labeled a great recruiter coming in to Bloomington and I expect him to fulfill that promise.

There are plenty of so-so teams landing 5-star local recruits and its time IU benefited from that again. We need to add something special to the 2011 class and really get it done in 2012.

On a side note, I had beers with JerryCT and a couple of his buddies tonight. They were in town for a wedding. Very, very cool dudes. Thanks for the beers Jerry.

  • Kelin Blab

IU, Crean, and the players cannot go 10 wins or less next year with a healthy Creek, Roth, and another big in the middle. I don't think mentally those kids could deal with that again and I don't know how Crean could handle it either. Not to mention the fans…..

  • Outoftheloop

What is your source for this?

  • Tberry

I think we are still a year away from the NIT or a record that includes the kind of win numbers most will be happy with. Don't be too depressed or disappointed if the next year is still a progress year!!!

  • GFDave

I grant that its something of a stretch, but I'm hopeful. Maybe the word “reasonable” should be changed to “aspirational.”

  • Kelin Blab

Etherington, Davis, and Mitch…I think Zeller is going elsewhere (gee haven't we heard this twice before) Etherington, Davis, Mitch, and Thomas….with Thomas or Mitch possibly going to prep school.

  • marcusgresham

I'm still looking at 15 wins as the mid-point, and I'd expect the team to fall within one or two of that on either side depending on a few breaks, good or bad.

  • Kelin Blab

In those 15 wins we must have at least three of the following:
    1. two solid BIG big ten wins…OSU, PU, Mich St.
    2. One Big ten tourney win
    3. Signature wins either in the ACC/Big Ten, @KY, PU at home, or in the Las Vegas tourney…maybe against NM and Alford?

We cannot or should not have…
    1. Two loses to NW or Iowa
    2. A blowout at home v anyone
    3. Any preseason cupcake loses or a bad half against them either.

  • GFDave

If a 2011 kid goes to prep school, doesn't that cut into 2012 schollies. I wouldn't want that as there are too many fine selectons on our respective list of that vintage.

  • Kelin Blab

That would take a scholarship for that class I would assume. Good point….one small story line for 2012 could be is Perea one and done, he is headed in that direction in my point of view or by that time the NBA rule may have changed…..???

  • marcusgresham

    I second that emotion

  • Plane1972

Could we cease and desist with the 'My Man Mitch' moniker.

  • marcusgresham

Maybe “Wild Thing” like Mitch Williams (too bad #99 would be an illegal jersey number.)
