Here’s your chance to name the IU student section

J.D. Campbell, Indiana’s Associate Athletic Director for Media Relations, passed along the following release this morning:

The Indiana University Athletics Department is seeking names for the student section in Assembly Hall. The student’s selection will be placed on the front of the Crimson Club Student Basketball Shirt. These shirts will be handed out to all student basketball season ticket holders. The student t-shirt is a great way for the students to show their passion and pride for Indiana Basketball at every home game.

The Crimson Club was designed to reward Indiana University students for their support of Hoosier athletic teams and the great game day atmosphere they create. Club members will earn points redeemable for prizes such as retail gift certificates, adidas gift packs, opportunity to be Athletic Director for a day, laptop computers, framed IU athletic jersey’s or 42″ HDTV’s. Students will also receive their official t-shirt when they earn 10 Crimson Club points.

Student section names will be accepted now through November 17th with finalist selections occurring on November 18th. Entries are open to all current Indiana Students. Students will be able to vote for their favorite name from November 18th-November 24th on IUHoosiers.com.

Entries must be emailed to SPTMARKT@indiana.edu no later than November 17th , 2009. We will notify you if your selection is chosen as a finalist.

Just so everyone know "Red Zone" is the name of the University of Southern Indiana's student section so I couldn't think that IU should name there's the same. I know Cameron Crazies is already the name of Dukes but why not.................the Crimson Crazies or Hankering Hoosiers I dont know just throwing those out there lol.............my favorite of I have heard so far is Bannertown

IU school colors varies anyway whats the name of the main liquor store Big RED so school out. Coaches are in and out so adding Crean to the name out... The students never sit down so I'm thinking " The Standing Hoosiers" and removed the seats and put all benches for extra bodies

What student section? We don't even have a real student section. We have random clusters of students. The athletic department needs to prioritize -- they should be working on actually making a legitimate student section before jumping to the step of naming it. Before sections get named they all should SITTING TOGETHER.

I don't find many faults with IU athletics but the lack of a first-come first-serve contiguous student section is a major problem. I don't care whose fault it is, it just needs to get fixed.

I have to say no to Red Zone because it sounds like a copy off of Izzone from Michigan State.

I am lobbying for Crimson Guard. I think it rocks. So what if it's named after the bad guys?

Assembly Holics is pretty awesome, though, I must say. I would venture to guess that they'd nix that one however. But I do like it....a lot actually.

I think IU actually needs a student section before we can name it...dispersing students in about 5 different locations throughout the stadium doesn't cut it for me. I'm looking through my tickets now and I have seats for some games sections G, HH, EE, & BB. I don't consider any of these seats as part of the student section.
