Report: Moses Morgan commits to DePaul

by Ryan Corazza in Recruiting | September 22nd, 2009

There were rumors about this the last few days, and now it appears to be true. Despite a recent visit to Indiana, Moses Morgan, rated No. 138  by Rivals in the 2010 class, has committed to DePaul, according to Jody Demling of the Louisville Courier-Journal.

Morgan visited DePaul over the weekend.

Morgan’s father, Winston, played for IU and Bob Knight during the 80’s.

This certainly doesn’t have the impact of Kyrie Irving taking IU out of the running, and with the scholarship situation tight, Tom Crean and crew still have the opportunity of snagging a better recruit, possibly out of the vaunted 2011 class.

Still, it’s a bit surprising, considering he seemed to be leaning IU’s way.

Q & A: Moses Morgan

by Alex Bozich in Recruiting | September 16th, 2009

mosesmorgan091609Moses Morgan, a 6-5 wing from Palo Verde High in Las Vegas (NV), took an official visit to Indiana this past weekend. Morgan is rated No. 138 nationally in the 2010 class by Rivals.com and is the son of former IU player Winston Morgan. Inside the Hall caught up with Morgan for a Q & A.

On his visit to Bloomington:

“It was a great experience going out there and seeing the campus. I was real impressed. Everybody knew who I was, knew who my dad was and they’re real basketball fans. I got to see how the team practiced, the individual workouts. I was real impressed with how hard they went and how Coach Crean pushed them. I got to spend time with Verdell Jones, Jeremiah, Christian. The team went to the football game and we went to dinner a couple of times with Coach Crean. It was a pretty good experience.”

On upcoming visits to other schools:

“I’m going to DePaul on Saturday. I did have Arizona State, but they just got a commitment, so I’m not sure I’m going to be going there. So it’s just DePaul right now.”

On the schools still involved in his recruitment besides Indiana and DePaul:

“There are still other schools. I’ve got Minnesota and Clemson.”

Hall Notes: Kyrie Irving, Moses Morgan and more

by Alex Bozich in Media | September 10th, 2009

irving051609a“Hall Notes” is a gathering of news clips mixed with opinion that, on their own, probably wouldn’t have made it on Inside the Hall. But throw them all together and well, here we go …

+ Kyrie Irving (pictured) hosted the Duke coaching staff on Wednesday night for the first of his in-home visits. On Thursday, both Devils Illustrated (Rivals) and The Devils Den (Scout) decided that squeezing every pro-Blue Devil comment out of Irving was the perfect way to cause an uproar on the IU message boards. It worked. Remember, it’s far from uncommon for a recruit to gush about a visit immediately after it happens. The Indiana coaching staff will make their way to Elizabeth (NJ) on Sunday to meet with Irving and barring any scheduling changes, he’ll visit Bloomington on the weekend of October 3.

+ Moses Morgan will visit Indiana this weekend and Dustin Dopirak of The Herald-Times caught up with the 6-5 wing before he boarded his flight to Indianapolis. If Morgan’s comments are any indication, the commitment of Victor Oladipo earlier this week will not factor into his decision. DePaul, Minnesota, Arizona State and Clemson are also in the running for Morgan.

+ Tom Crean announced the hiring of Drew Adams and Mason Revelette in a press release on Wednesday night. Adams, 24, will be the coordinator of basketball systems and Revelette, 22, will be a graduate assistant. Most of the chatter concerning the announcement has centered around Adams, who has strong ties to the Indiana Elite AAU program. Adams served as a student assistant the past two seasons at Tennessee and is a graduate of Bloomington South where he played for three seasons.

+ Kyle Neddenriep of The Indianapolis Star reported on Thursday that the IHSAA is close to ruling on the eligibility of Bloomington South guard and IU commitment Matt Carlino. According to Carlino’s father Mark, a decision is expected in the “next week or so.”

+ Mike Pegram of Inside Indiana/Peegs.com tweeted late on Wednesday that Marquis Teague could potentially visit Indiana on Saturday. At this point, it’s hard to view Teague as anything but a heavy lean to Louisville.

No shortage of 2010 visitors expected soon in Bloomington

by Alex Bozich in Recruiting | August 27th, 2009

kyrieirving051609The limited inventory of scholarships isn’t putting the brakes on the pursuit of 2010 talent from the IU basketball staff. Here’s a look at a tentative schedule of visitors in the coming weeks:

+ Kyrie Irving, 6-2 guard, St. Patrick’s (NJ): Adam Zagoria reported late Thursday night that Irving (pictured) will give Duke a visit on September 25 and that a visit to Bloomington will take place, but a date has not been set.

+ Moses Morgan, 6-5 wing, Palo Verde (NV): The son of Winston Morgan, a former IU player, will visit on September 12 according to The Courier-Journal’s Jody Demling. Morgan will also take an official visit to Arizona State and other visits could follow.

+ Stacey Poole, 6-5 wing, Andrew Jackson (FL): Indiana made Poole’s recent cut to four schools according to Evan Daniels of Scout.com. Poole will visit Indiana and Kentucky both on the same weekend — with a trip to Bloomington on September 4.

+ Victor Oladipo, 6-4 guard, DeMatha (MD): Oladipo could cross paths with Poole as the Maryland native told Mike Pegram of Peegs.com of his plans to visit on September 4-6.

+ Brandon Mobley, 6-9 forward, Windsor Forest (GA): Mobley told the Indiana Daily Student that he’s down to the Hoosiers, South Carolina and Cincinnati and will visit in November.

+ Keep an eye on: Jelan Kendrick, a 6-6 guard from Westlake (GA) and the cousin of former IU fan favorite A.J. Moye, will reportedly take part in this weekend’s Elite Camp. Kendrick is the No. 8 player in the 2010 class on Rivals.com. 6-4 Norcross (GA) guard Jeremy Lamb is another guy to keep on the radar.

Moses Morgan on IU: ‘I have a very high interest in them’

by Alex Bozich in Recruiting | July 15th, 2009

The last time we caught up with Moses Morgan in early May, there was one school at the top of his list: Indiana.

And the 2010 wing and son of former IU player Winston Morgan is still high on the Hoosiers.

“They are still recruiting me very hard,” Morgan told Inside the Hall from the NY2LASports.com Summer Jam in Milwaukee. “I have a very high interest in them and they have a very high interest in me.”

Morgan is playing this summer for the ICAN All-Stars and hopes to fit in a visit to Bloomington to check out the IU campus soon.

“Probably the middle of August,” Morgan said of a timetable for a possible trip.

Indiana at the top of the list for Moses Morgan

by Alex Bozich in Recruiting | May 6th, 2009

If 2010 Las Vegas guard Moses Morgan needs an opinion on the basketball program in Bloomington, he need not go far for advice. Morgan’s father, Winston, played for Bob Knight and the Hoosiers in the 80’s after a prep career at Anderson Madison-Heights.

And now the younger Morgan, the No. 68 player in the 2010 class according to Rivals.com, has the Hoosiers front and center in his recruitment.

“Right now, Indiana is the school that’s on top of my list,” Morgan told Inside the Hall. “It sounds like the best fit for me right now that I could see myself playing in.”

Despite the fact that his father played for the Hoosiers, Morgan hasn’t followed the program closely until recently.

“I haven’t really been following Indiana, but since they’ve started to recruit me, I’m following up on them and seeing what they’re about since Coach Crean has been there,” Morgan said. “My Dad always tells me I need to go to a school that’s good academically. He tells me a lot about Indiana’s academics. He also said the campus is nice.”

So, what’s the plan for 2010?

by Alex Bozich in Recruiting | May 5th, 2009

The surprise commitment of David Williams has left many Indiana fans trying to figure out the recruiting plan for the 2010 class. A quick glance at our scholarship numbers page shows two available spots for the 2010 class. (Three if IU wishes to oversign by one.) There’s a camp that believes that IU could hold a couple of spots for the loaded 2011 class and there are those who believe the Hoosiers will fill the two remaining spots.

Here’s a look at the names IU is recruiting for 2010:

– Kyrie Irving – Irving tops the wishlist for Indiana and several other schools because he is a versatile point guard who has the ability to make others around him better. He prominently mentions IU when speaking about his recruitment and has developed a strong relationship with Tom Crean and Roshown McLeod. Scout.com recently moved him into the top 10 of the 2010 class. IU fans will likely have a chance to see Irving in a couple of weeks as his New Jersey Roadrunners team is expected at the Adidas May Classic. Consider him the top priority in Indiana’s recruiting efforts.

– Moses Morgan – Michigan was reportedly the school to beat for Morgan until IU made a recent push for the Las Vegas guard and now the Hoosiers could be in the driver’s seat. The son of Anderson-Madison Heights product and former IU player Winston Morgan is among the top 75 players in 2010 according to Rivals.com. Jerry Meyer recently called Morgan “a physical wing prospect with a game ready for the rigors of college basketball.” Morgan plans to visit Bloomington in June.
