Teague in attendance for Sunday’s game

Indianapolis Pike sophomore Marquis Teague was in Bloomington Sunday taking in the Indiana-Minnesota game. Teague is said to be leaning heavily towards attending Louisville and is expected to make a decision shortly after the high school season ends.

Crean watches Irving’s debut

Tom Crean and assistant coach Roshown McLeod made the trip to New Jersey on Thursday’s to watch junior guard Kyrie Irving’s debut. Irving was forced to sit out the beginning of the season due to transfer rules and returned to a large group of coaches waiting to see him play. According to Adam Zagoria, coaches from Seton Hall, St. John’s, Rutgers and Villanova were also in attendance. Irving scored 16 points in a 74-42 win.

Crean takes in first loss for Carlino and Highland

Crean made the most out of his week off and made it to Arizona on Monday to see 2011 commitment Matt Carlino and No. 1 Highland. Carlino scored 23 points, but hit just 2 of 10 three-pointers as Highland fell 58-51 to Phoenix North.

Another Zeller on the way

After seeing Luke Zeller go to Notre Dame and Tyler Zeller head to Chapel Hill, Crean is making an effort to bring the third Zeller, Cody, to Bloomington. The youngest Zeller, a member of the 2011 class, scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in front of Crean Friday night, but Class 2-A No. 2 Washington fell to Class 2-A No. 1 Princeton 57-50.

A first look: 2010 recruiting class

by in Recruiting | December 16th, 2008

In case you haven’t noticed in the sidebar on the right side of this very page, Indiana has yet to secure a verbal commitment for its 2010 recruiting class. There are two factors playing into this:

1. Tom Crean admitted that the coaching staff has ground to make up in 2010. By the time Crean arrived in Bloomington, many of the top prospects for 2010 were already starting to build solid relationships with other coaching staffs. And the recruiting sanctions placed on Crean over the summer only hampered his ability to get out and build his own relationships.

2. The availability of scholarships for 2010 (or lack thereof) has forced Crean to be more selective on who to target for this class. It’s a good bet that only two scholarships (or possibly only one) will be there for the taking.

So who is IU looking at in this class?

Top junior watches Indiana’s opener

by in Recruiting | November 15th, 2008

Kyrie Irving, the No. 27 player in the 2010 class according to Rivals.com, was in Bloomington for an unofficial visit on Saturday and watched IU’s 83-65 win over Northwestern State.

Irving, a 6-2 guard from St. Patrick’s in New Jersey, holds offers from the Hoosiers, Kansas, Kansas State, Memphis, Rutgers, Notre Dame, Texas A & M and Villanova.

Irving played his first two years of high school at Montclair Kimberley Academy where he averaged 26.5 points and led his team to a New Jersey Prep “B” State title as a sophomore. Irving is described as an explosive scorer and the numbers back it up — he had games of 48 and 47 points last season.

2009 signees Derek Elston and Bobby Capobianco were also in attendance.
