The latest on the Kyrie Irving recruiting front is not favorable for Indiana. According to a report by Adam Zagoria, Irving’s visit on October 2 and 3 has been postponed and most likely, canceled.

Everything we’re hearing on the Irving front indicates that he will not take an official visit to Bloomington and the Hoosiers have been all but eliminated from his list of schools.

According to Zagoria, Georgia Tech is now scheduled to get an official visit and Indiana is still a possibility for his fifth visit along with Seton Hall and Connecticut.

Update: Kyrie Irving’s uncle, Sye Dean, confirmed that his nephew is no longer considering Indiana to Adam Zagoria. Here are the comments from Dean, courtesy of Zagoria:

“Indiana is out. We respect the program. We respect Tom Crean. We feel blessed that a University of that caliber would recruit Kyrie, but sometimes in regards to this recruiting process you have to eliminate certain programs. That’s part of the process.”

“It’s always a process of elimination and I think Tom Crean and their program did a wonderful job. We just felt that Indiana wasn’t the place where he could develop and that’s no disrespect to Tom Crean. Although Indiana is a great program and has great coaches, we just felt it was conducive for us to go in another direction.”

“Although Kyrie will not be taking an official visit to Indiana University, as a family we have the utmost respect for the Indiana University program, its coaches and players. Unfortunately, during this arduous and lengthy recruiting process, certain perspectives and perceptions changed in what would be best for Kyrie and his future.”

Irving’s recruitment has been a primary focus for Indiana fans since the five-star guard played in front of 2,000 fans at Assembly Hall during the adidas May Classic.

If you were hoping Sunday’s visit would spark a clue from Irving on where the Hoosiers might stand in the process, you’re going to be disappointed. Irving is keeping a tight lid on his recruitment and offered few details in two brief interviews published today.

“I like to keep everybody on their seats,” Irving told Dave Telep of Scout.com. “If everyone says I’m going to Duke or Indiana then that’s their opinion.”

As for Sunday’s visit from the Hoosier staff, Irving told Dustin Dopirak of The Herald-Times that the visit went well, but offered few details.

“I couldn’t ask anything more from the coaching staff,” Irving told Dopirak. “I’ve met with them a couple of times. This was more about them meeting with my father and the rest of my family.”

It’s tough to say where Indiana might fit in Irving’s plans. The St. Patrick’s point guard made his first visit to Bloomington last November and ever since, the staff has been in hot pursuit. When Irving became eligible last January after transferring to St. Patrick’s from Montclair Kimberley Academy, both Crean and McLeod were in attendance to watch him. And they followed him as closely as any school did over the summer.

The next step in the process will be three official visits – September 25 to Duke, October 2 to IU and October 9 to Texas A & M. Others could follow to push Irving to five visits in total. But where will he end up? That’s anybody’s guess.

“Hall Notes” is a gathering of news clips mixed with opinion that, on their own, probably wouldn’t have made it on Inside the Hall. But throw them all together and well, here we go …

+ Kyrie Irving (pictured) hosted the Duke coaching staff on Wednesday night for the first of his in-home visits. On Thursday, both Devils Illustrated (Rivals) and The Devils Den (Scout) decided that squeezing every pro-Blue Devil comment out of Irving was the perfect way to cause an uproar on the IU message boards. It worked. Remember, it’s far from uncommon for a recruit to gush about a visit immediately after it happens. The Indiana coaching staff will make their way to Elizabeth (NJ) on Sunday to meet with Irving and barring any scheduling changes, he’ll visit Bloomington on the weekend of October 3.

+ Moses Morgan will visit Indiana this weekend and Dustin Dopirak of The Herald-Times caught up with the 6-5 wing before he boarded his flight to Indianapolis. If Morgan’s comments are any indication, the commitment of Victor Oladipo earlier this week will not factor into his decision. DePaul, Minnesota, Arizona State and Clemson are also in the running for Morgan.

+ Tom Crean announced the hiring of Drew Adams and Mason Revelette in a press release on Wednesday night. Adams, 24, will be the coordinator of basketball systems and Revelette, 22, will be a graduate assistant. Most of the chatter concerning the announcement has centered around Adams, who has strong ties to the Indiana Elite AAU program. Adams served as a student assistant the past two seasons at Tennessee and is a graduate of Bloomington South where he played for three seasons.

+ Kyle Neddenriep of The Indianapolis Star reported on Thursday that the IHSAA is close to ruling on the eligibility of Bloomington South guard and IU commitment Matt Carlino. According to Carlino’s father Mark, a decision is expected in the “next week or so.”

+ Mike Pegram of Inside Indiana/Peegs.com tweeted late on Wednesday that Marquis Teague could potentially visit Indiana on Saturday. At this point, it’s hard to view Teague as anything but a heavy lean to Louisville.

Here’s a look at a tentative schedule of visitors in the coming weeks:

+ Kyrie Irving, 6-2 guard, St. Patrick’s (NJ): Adam Zagoria reported late Thursday night that Irving (pictured) will give Duke a visit on September 25 and that a visit to Bloomington will take place, but a date has not been set.

+ Moses Morgan, 6-5 wing, Palo Verde (NV): The son of Winston Morgan, a former IU player, will visit on September 12 according to The Courier-Journal’s Jody Demling. Morgan will also take an official visit to Arizona State and other visits could follow.

+ Stacey Poole, 6-5 wing, Andrew Jackson (FL): Indiana made Poole’s recent cut to four schools according to Evan Daniels of Scout.com. Poole will visit Indiana and Kentucky both on the same weekend — with a trip to Bloomington on September 4.

+ Victor Oladipo, 6-4 guard, DeMatha (MD): Oladipo could cross paths with Poole as the Maryland native told Mike Pegram of Peegs.com of his plans to visit on September 4-6.

+ Brandon Mobley, 6-9 forward, Windsor Forest (GA): Mobley told the Indiana Daily Student that he’s down to the Hoosiers, South Carolina and Cincinnati and will visit in November.

+ Keep an eye on: Jelan Kendrick, a 6-6 guard from Westlake (GA) and the cousin of former IU fan favorite A.J. Moye, will reportedly take part in this weekend’s Elite Camp. Kendrick is the No. 8 player in the 2010 class on Rivals.com. 6-4 Norcross (GA) guard Jeremy Lamb is another guy to keep on the radar.

Some observers consider Indiana to be the unofficial leader for Irving because assistant coach Roshown McLeod has worked very hard to develop a relationship with Irving. Yet Duke, Seton Hall, Texas A&M, Notre Dame and others are also involved.

“Pretty soon I’m gonna narrow down the schools. After Elite 24,” Irving wrote by text.

It’s no secret that Indiana fans are anxiously awaiting a big-time commitment and Irving could be the guy. All indications still point to Irving taking official visits to his final five schools and then making a decision shortly thereafter.

An ideal weekend for Irving to visit Bloomington would likely be October 16-18. The Hoosiers first official practice, Hoosier Hysteria, will take place on Friday evening and the football team hosts Illinois for homecoming on Saturday.

The Elite Classic will take place on August 22 at Rucker Park in Harlem and will be televised live on ESPNU.

For my money, Sports Illustrated’s Seth Davis is one of the better college basketball journalists in all of the land. Most of you probably know him best from his work in the studio alongside Greg Gumbel on CBS, but Davis also writes columns for SI and published When March Went Mad earlier this year.

Since most of us are trained to read recruiting writings from the likes of Jody Demling of The Louisville Courier-Journal or Dave Telep of Scout.com, it’s not often that we get the opinion of a scribe who normally doesn’t follow recruiting as a religion.

Davis hit the recruiting trail hard last week and today published his scouting reports of several of the nation’s top players, including three IU recruiting targets:

Kyrie Irving, 6-2, 175, Elizabeth, N.J.: Irving is the point guard at St. Patrick’s High, which includes 6-8 junior Michael Gilchrist, whom I wrote about last week. You think that’s a tough inside-outside combo? Irving isn’t as strong as Selby, but he is such a deft ball-handler with a mean crossover that he repeatedly gets by his defender in the half court. Irving is more of a true point guard than a scorer, and his outgoing personality enables him to be a strong leader. His recruitment seems to be wide open, but his coach at St. Patrick’s, Kevin Boyle, told me that Indiana, spearheaded by its assistant Roshown McLeod, a New Jersey native who played for Bob Hurley at St. Anthony, has been working especially hard to get him.

Marquis Teague, 6-2, 170, Indianapolis: Teague gets a lot of attention because he is the younger brother of Jeff, the Wake Forest star who was just drafted in the first round by the Atlanta Hawks. But even without that pedigree, the rising junior would gain plenty of notice. He is considerably further along at this stage than his brother, who wasn’t considered a high-major recruit until the start of his senior year. Marquis is much more of a pure point guard than Jeff. He is blazingly quick, especially in the open floor, and though his game has a little too much French pastry, as Al McGuire used to say, he is great at getting the ball to the open man. He also has a tendency to run his mouth, but I’d rather have a guy be a little too chippy than lacking in confidence.

Stacey Poole, 6-5, 190, Jacksonville, Fla.: Here’s another wiry high-flyer. His father played for Florida two decades ago, and it was no coincidence Billy Donovan was at every one of Poole’s games in Philly. It’s hard to say how skilled Poole is in a half-court setting, because the games at the Reebok were such sloppy, up-and-down affairs. South Carolina and Clemson are hot on Poole’s trail as well, but in the end it’s hard to envision him turning down his home-state school, especially when it’s also his dad’s alma mater.

Nothing particularly ground breaking in this piece, but here are a couple of observations: 1) Irving’s high school coach has taken notice of IU’s urgency in recruiting his point guard; 2) I’m not the only one to notice that Teague’s jawing could be troublesome and 3) Stacey Poole isn’t a prospect that is talked about much with IU, but the lack of a Hoosier mention doesn’t mean they aren’t in the mix. As recently as a couple of weeks ago, Poole told TigerIllustrated.com: “I could see myself going to Clemson. And I could also see myself going to Indiana.”
