And Indiana will likely welcome one of its primary targets in the 2011 class to Hoosier Hysteria: Muncie Central point guard Jeremiah Davis.

“I’m pretty sure I’m coming to the madness (Hoosier Hysteria),” Davis, the No. 40 rated prospect by Rivals.com, told Inside the Hall on Wednesday. Davis said he was invited to the event by head coach Tom Crean and is finalizing plans to attend.

The 6-2 guard has welcomed coaches from Michigan State, Butler and Georgetown recently to watch his workouts at Muncie Central and expects a visit from Crean as early as Monday or Tuesday.

“It’s a big sign of respect to my game. I’m really honored that schools come in and watch me play,” he said.

Davis, a consensus top 50 player nationally after a strong summer at both guard positions for Indiana Elite, doesn’t have a specific timetable for a decision, but mapped out the process on how he’ll pick a school.

“I want to go through the X’s and O’s and find what’s right for me. And then I’ll make a decision,” Davis said. “It may end around the school season, but anything can still happen.”

2011 Muncie Central guard Jeremiah Davis had one of the strongest summers of any player in the country. Davis, the No. 40 ranked prospect nationally in his class by Rivals.com, attended Indiana’s Elite Camp on Saturday.

The 6-3 guard has offers from Indiana, Tennessee, Ohio State, Dayton, Cincinnati, Xavier, Ball State, Purdue and Miami (FL) and is hearing from Michigan State, Arizona and Kentucky. Inside the Hall talked to Davis about his experience over the weekend in Bloomington and got an update on where he stands in the recruiting process.

On the Elite Camp and what he took away from participating:

“I liked the camp a lot. It had a lot of competition. Coach Crean was very good at teaching and coaching us. I liked that part about the camp. We got to go up-and-down a little bit too. I could judge myself from the competition there.”

On where stands with his recruitment:

“I could commit today, tomorrow or at anytime. I’m just trying to see what the right fit is for me and my family. The coaching style, the conference, what fits for me.”

On where he sees himself fitting in at the next level:

“I would play the point but also I would play the off guard so I could make shots for myself and make shots for my teammates.”

On the possibility of playing with 2011 commitment Austin Etherington at Indiana:

“He’s talks to me and tries to persuade me to go to IU. Austin’s a good buddy of mine so I’m definitely taking in what he says.”

On upcoming trips to Bloomington or a potential trip to Hoosier Hysteria:

“I haven’t heard anything about Midnight Madness (Hoosier Hysteria), but it’d be nice to go. I’m pretty sure I’m going to go down to a couple of football games.”

On what former IU standout and New York Knick Jared Jeffries talked about during the camp:

“He talked about making it to the championship game against Maryland. He was from Bloomington and he wanted to give back to his community. He said after they beat a couple of teams to go to the Final Four, that night, there was like 50,000 outside in Bloomington waiting for them on their bus. He said the security guards had to tear gas some of the fans, that’s how crazy it was.”

On what former Marquette standout and L.A. Clipper Steve Novak talked about during the camp:

“Novak said he wasn’t always the fastest or the strongest guy, but he was just a really hard worker. He said his freshman year (at Marquette) he was considering quitting, but he just kept pressing on and eventually he was the leading three-point shooter all-time in the Big East conference.”

The following are notes submitted to Inside the Hall from someone that attended IU’s Elite Camp this past Saturday in Bloomington. It’s important to note that this information is not from anyone affiliated with the university. These notes have been slightly tweaked by yours truly.

+ By far the player most impressive on Saturday was Jordan Hulls. He is amazing at the pick-and-roll. A former IU player that had never seen him play called him a stud. It will be really difficult to keep him off the court, so you could see a lot of Jeremiah Rivers and Hulls together because of their ball handling skills.

+ Maurice Creek is lights out. He should average 12+ ppg as a freshman. He can score from any place on the floor and is a solid rebounder.

+ Derek Elston is a beast. He seems bigger than Tom Pritchard and has much more range. He is also more athletic than I anticipated. He could play 25-30 minutes a game.

+ Christian Watford (pictured) is very good. He plays better in transition and is more of a three but will have to play the four on this team.

+ Seems like it’s going to be tough for Matt Roth, Bobby Capobianco and Bawa Muniru to get minutes. Rivers, Creek, Hulls, Devan Dumes and Verdell Jones will eat up the minutes at guard. Pritchard, Elston and Watford should play the four and five with the others playing when foul trouble arises.

+ Jeremiah Davis was probably the best all-around player there of the high school players. He meshed well with Austin Etherington and Matt Carlino. Davis is extremely tough and took some licks. He also seemed to have a great relationship with the coaches.

+ J.P. Tokoto is very skilled, athletic and has a lot of upside. He had some good dunks and blocks, but will definitely have gain weight to play in the Big Ten.

+ Carlino might have been the fastest player there of the high school guys. He is strong with his dribble and is really quick. He makes good decisions and will be a solid college player.

+ Etherington is a very good shooter and if he develops a driving game he could be a poor man’s Luke Recker.

+ Brent and Bryson Scott were impressive as was Collin Hartman. All three did some things well but were overmatched at times.

+ Both Darryl Hicks and Darryl Baker were especially impressive. Hicks is more polished with his shot and Baker is better at getting to the hole and finding teammates. Baker might have had the best move of the camp. He was being guarded by Hulls, took two dribbles, did a spin move and got right to the bucket and hit it with an and-one on Muniru. It was impressive. Baker has an issue of not playing hard and once he learns to go full speed all the time his potential is endless. Hicks is very talented and has a strong shot. He plays hard and knows the game.

+ Both of IU’s 2011 commitments, Austin Etherington (pictured) and Matt Carlino, played well. Carlino’s shot reportedly looked much better than it did over the summer.

+ 2011 Muncie Central guard Jeremiah Davis attended the camp and the buzz continues to be that IU is in great shape with him. Davis is an AAU teammate of Etherington on Indiana Elite Team Indiana.

+ Current NBA players Eric Gordon, Steve Novak and Jared Jeffries all attended the camp. Both Novak and Jeffries spoke to the campers and Novak was spotted in IU shorts.

+ 2012 campers: Lawrence Central’s Jeremy Hollowell, Southport’s Kellon Thomas, Bloomington South’s T.J. Bell and Menomonee Falls (WI)’s J.P. Tokoto. Ron Patterson did not attend and D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera is spending the weekend taking unofficial visits.

+ 2013 campers: Jeffersonville’s Darryl Baker and North Oldham (KY)’s Darryl Hicks. I had a chance to see both players over the summer and they both have a chance to be special. Jody Demling of The Louisville-Courier-Journal is reporting that Indianapolis Cathedral’s Collin Hartman and Brent and Bryson Scott of Ft. Wayne Northup attended.

+ 2011 guard/forward Aaron Thomas from Cincinnati Aiken (OH) is in Bloomington this weekend, but we’re not sure if he played in the camp. The IU staff followed Thomas closely in July at the Kentucky Hoopfest.

+ Indianapolis Pike’s Marquis Teague did not make it to the camp and all signs continue to point toward Louisville for Teague.

+ 2011 Gary Lew Wallace standout Branden Dawson opted to attend Marquette’s ’specialty’ camp according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Significant here is that Dawson is considered a Purdue lean and the Boilermakers also held a camp of their own on Saturday. The Journal Sentinel report also claims that Michael Cobbins, Vander Blue, Reggie Smith, Jeremy Lamb and DeJuan Marrero attended the Marquette camp.

The Kentucky Hoopfest kicked off Thursday in Louisville and Inside the Hall attended the evening session at Hoops and Basketball Academy.

+ Among the coaches in attendance: Tom Crean and Tim Buckley; Michigan State’s Tom Izzo; Butler’s Brad Stevens; Xavier’s Chris Mack and assistants from Ohio State, Tennessee, Iowa, Wisconsin and Purdue.

+ At Hoops, the Spiece Indy Stars crushed Indiana Swish Orange. This Spiece group was coming off a tournament win at the Hoosier Shootout and Broad Ripple’s Ron Patterson, Lawrence Central’s Jeremy Hollowell (pictured), Southport’s Kellon Thomas and Avon’s Austin Burgett were all impressive. You’d be hard pressed to find a stronger group of 15-year olds.

Hollowell confirmed that Indiana is ready to make an offer, but it won’t be official until his mother gets a chance to be there for the occasion. Iowa and Cincinnati have offered. Hollowell is 6-5 (and still growing) and said he enjoyed his time last month at the Indiana Elite Camp.

Thomas, a strong point guard that can also shoot it, is getting looks from Indiana, Iowa, Oregon State, Minnesota, Xavier, Michigan State, Purdue and Butler. He also attended the Elite Camp and had this to say about that experience: “It was a good camp. Coach Crean is very intense. It was one of those camps where you get better. It was hard. There were a lot of good players there.”

Burgett picked up his first major offer a couple of weeks ago from Cincinnati, but has no leader at this point. “I’d say everybody is about medium. I don’t think I’m going to decide until my junior year.” After watching Burgett at the AMC in May and again today, his game resembles Purdue’s Robbie Hummel.

Patterson reeled off a list of seven offers – IU, Illinois, Purdue, Depaul, Xavier, Ohio State and Tennessee. The 6-3 guard plans a decision sometime after his sophomore season.

+ At Basketball Academy, Indiana Elite Team Indiana cruised past the Kentucky Blazers behind the play of Xavier commit Darwin Davis, Muncie Central’s Jeremiah Davis and Hamilton Heights’ Austin Etherington. But the best player on the court might have been 6-7 Cincinnati commitment Chane Behanan who recently moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky and is playing with the Kentucky Blazers.

Crean and Buckley watched on the baseline as Jeremiah Davis continued his solid play from earlier in the week and Etherington solidified the vote of confidence Scout.com gave him in their recent 2011 rankings.

Up next: Friday morning we’ll get a look at 2013 Jeffersonville guard and IU Elite Camper Darryl Baker and Indiana Elite One Orange featuring Matt Carlino, Cody Zeller, Marshall Plumlee and Spencer Turner. Follow Inside the Hall on Twitter for updates.

The only catch? The uncertainty of the scholarship situation. A quick look at the scholarship numbers page shows the Hoosiers have two available scholarships for 2011 (three if they oversign by one.) But if the Hoosiers add to the 2010 class, the number of available scholarships will decrease accordingly.

That said, let’s take a look at the names being frequently mentioned in Indiana’s 2011 recruiting efforts:

– Marquis Teague – Depending on who you talk to, Indiana’s chances to land Teague range from coming on strong to a longshot. Where the Hoosiers actually stand is anybody’s guess. Teague’s talent is undeniable. He is an excellent ball handler and can both score and distribute from the point guard position. And he’s already ready physically for the rigors of the Big Ten. His only knocks? An attitude that sometimes doesn’t endear him to officials and a jumpshot that is still improving. In the end, Teague possesses the talent to be special.

– Cody Zeller – I’ve watched Zeller twice this spring and came away impressed after watching him in the adidas May Classic. He’s a legitimate 6-9 and still growing. And as is usually the case with big men, he’s tweaking his game to adjust to his changing physique. Zeller is a heady player who can be a little too unselfish at times, but his skills in the post are very good. If he can improve his strength over the next two years, he’ll be a difference maker.

– Marshall Plumlee – Despite having two older brothers at Duke, Plumlee isn’t a lock to head to Durham. Indiana figures to play a pivotal role in his recruitment and he told a group of reporters at the adidas May Classic that he likes Tom Crean’s plan to rebuild the program. Like Zeller, he’s still adjusting his near 7-foot frame to a developing game.

– Branden Dawson – If Indiana wants to make a statement about recruiting in the northwest corner of the state, Dawson should be at the top of the list. As a sophomore at Gary Lew Wallace, he averaged 16.7 points and 15.5 rebounds. There’s a lot to like about his game: he’s athletic, long and plays with a lot of energy. And most importantly, you can tell he genuinely enjoys playing hard and competing.

– Jeremiah Davis – The Muncie Central point guard made national waves when then-Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie offered a scholarship shortly after his freshman year. Indiana has also offered and Crean watched Davis workout last month. He’s a powerful point guard that can make plays off the dribble. His decision making is a bit erratic at times, but he’s got the talent to be an impact player in the Big Ten.

– Keep an eye on: Darwin Davis Jr. and Spencer Turner. Neither Bloomington South player holds an Indiana offer, but Davis is starting to garner national attention with his play this spring. Turner is an elite shooter. Austin Etherington, who missed half of last season after knee surgery, has the attention of the Indiana staff. The 6-5 Hamilton Heights wing can fill it up. Indiana Elite’s Deng Leek is an athletic seven-footer who is still learning the game. But you can’t teach size and Leek can run the floor, block shots and finish. Chesterton and SYF Players 6-9 forward Mitch McGary is still rounding into form after returning from a broken left wrist and hopes to attend the IU elite camp.

Various reports have indicated that Crean has been to see Indianapolis Pike’s Marquis Teague, Lawrence North’s Dominique Ferguson, Muncie Central’s Jeremiah Davis, Will Barton (Baltimore) and Ge-Lawn Guyn (Scott County, KY). And that’s just a small sampling of the names that have surfaced to this point.

So you ask, what’s my point? Crean ‘gets it’. He realizes that the name Indiana by itself no longer sells recruits on the program. Sure, the prestige is still recognized around the country and can be leveraged in some situations. But Crean realizes that working hard around the clock is the way to bring the Indiana program back to national prominence. And he’s doing just that.

The spring contact period ends today.

Muncie Central’s Jeremiah Davis was thrust into the national spotlight when then Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie offered him a scholarship following his freshman season. With his sophomore season in the books, Davis is on the spring AAU circuit with Indiana Elite’s Team Indiana and is enjoying playing alongside a talented cast.

“We’ve got a real talented team. My teammates are great,” Davis said. “We play together. We’ve got a lot of heart.”

The 6-3 guard averaged 13 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists as a sophomore and has picked up offers from Indiana, Purdue, Ball State and Tennessee in addition to his UK offer. Xavier and Ohio State watched him work out last week at Muncie Central.

“I don’t know about Kentucky, but hopefully once everything settles down, we’ll go down there and visit the campus,” he added. “Right now I’m just surveying to see what’s going on. We’re going to have to see what the right fit for me is.”

As far as his interest in the Hoosiers, Davis likes what he’s been able to see of the campus so far and says he keeps in regular contact with Tom Crean.

“I talk to Coach Crean a lot. He’s a good guy. He’s very energetic,” Davis said. “I’ve been down to campus about three times already. It’s really nice, I like it a lot.”

Scouting report: Davis is a strong point guard that can hit the jump shot off the dribble and also get to the basket and finish. In games on Friday evening and Saturday morning, Davis showed the ability to distribute the ball and also score in bunches. He’ll need to improve on defense and with his agility. He’s definitely a prospect the Indiana staff will be keeping tabs on over the summer.
