So, about that Dominic Cheek visit…

by Alex Bozich in Recruiting | October 30th, 2008

dcheek1.jpgAdam Zagoria of SportsNet New York, who seems to have connections with every big time recruit on the east coast, has yet another update on the recruitment of Dominic Cheek.

And it’s not good for IU according to Cheek’s “handler”:

“He’s no longer interested in Indiana and he’s no longer interested in Seton Hall,” Ben Gamble said Thursday afternoon by phone. “He just wasn’t comfortable with those situations.”

So much for the “I’m definitely going to visit Indiana” comment. With Braswell off the board and Cheek no longer interested, that pretty much wraps up the 2009 class.

Dominic Cheek will visit IU on November 7

by Alex Bozich in Recruiting | October 19th, 2008

dcheek.jpgDespite the fact that IU has 14 scholarships occupied for the 2009-2010 campaign, five-star guard Dominic Cheek will visit Bloomington on November 7. Adam Zagoria of the Zagsblog has the details:

Fresh off his weekend visit to Kansas for Late Night in the Phog, St. Anthony senior wing Dominic Cheek has set the dates for his last two visits.

After going to Villanova Oct. 24 and Pittsburgh Oct. 31, Cheek will visit Indiana Nov. 7 and Memphis Nov. 14, according to Ben Gamble, the associate head coach at St. Anthony. The NCAA early signing period runs Nov. 12-19.

Seton Hall and Rutgers are also in the mix, according to Zagoria. The scholarship situation aside, if Cheek wants to come to Bloomington, the coaching staff will make it happen. Adding Cheek would give IU the No. 1 recruiting class nationally and speed up the rebuilding process dramatically. In other words: as far-fetched as it sounds, let’s get this guy.

A look at St. Anthony’s guard Dominic Cheek

by Alex Bozich in Recruiting | September 2nd, 2008

While they’re entering the fray a bit late, the Hoosiers are right in the thick of the race for 2009 five-star guard Dominic Cheek. Cheek’s ties to new Indiana assistant coach Roshown McLeod have been well documented. Here’s a look at Cheek for those of you who haven’t had a chance to check him out:

Dominic Cheek: “I’m definitely going to visit Indiana”

by Alex Bozich in Recruiting | August 21st, 2008

dcheek.JPGThe 2009 recruiting class Tom Crean and staff have assembled in his short time in Bloomington is impressive. And with the hiring of Roshown McLeod, it could be getting a five-star boost in the form of St. Anthony’s (NJ) guard Dominic Cheek.

In an interview published Thursday morning by Adam Zagoria of Zagsblog.net, Cheek talked about his interest in Indiana and his relationship with Crean and McLeod:

“I’m definitely going to visit Indiana. I’m definitely going to try to really look into that school and see how everything is. Coach Crean, he was recruiting me when he was at Marquette and now he’s still recruiting me at Indiana. Roshown McLeod is like a brother figure to me. I knew him ever since I was little and me and his brother are like best friends, so that’s definitely going to play a big part. I know if I do decide to go out there, I’ll know that I’ll have a person to look out for me.”

Remember that three-year rebuilding plan that most of the fanbase was resigned to? Adding Cheek to the already stellar 2009 class could put the Hoosiers back on the map as early as 2009-2010. There’s still a ways to go before Cheek makes a decision, but the fact that he’s planning an official visit to Bloomington coupled with his relationship with McLeod is encouraging indeed.
