And a fourth could soon be on the way in the form of 2012’s D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera.

A physical guard who is regarded as one of the top prospects nationally in his class, Smith-Rivera already holds a scholarship offer from the Indiana staff. And he plans to get more familiar with Bloomington over the summer.

“I do plan to visit IU over the summer pretty often,” Smith-Rivera said at the adidas May Classic. “I like it down here. I’ve been down a few times. I came down here and visited a few weeks ago. It was nice. I enjoyed it.”

On his last visit, Smith-Rivera got a chance to see the campus and became more familiar with how Tom Crean sees him fitting in with the program.

“We watched a little bit of film,” Smith-Rivera said. “We toured around the campus and everything. I saw a lot of historic things about IU and a lot of the things that they have going on. What he’s doing for this school and everything, he thinks it fits my personality and I can really help out in this system.”

With three years of high school remaining, Smith-Rivera plans to take his time with the recruiting process. Although he plays mostly at the two at North Central, he doesn’t mind playing the one, two or even the three.

“I get in where I fit in,” he said. “I try to do what the coach needs me to do. I really don’t try to put myself in a category, I just do what I have to do to get the win.”

Besides the offer from IU, Purdue and Tennessee have also offered and Smith-Rivera broke down the way he views the atmospheres at the three frontrunners in his recruitment.

“Purdue, their atmosphere is pretty good,” he said. “IU, the atmosphere is great. I enjoy it. The crowd is into it every game. Tennessee, the chemistry is great there and everybody gets along.”

Scouting report: Smith-Rivera is fantastic at getting to the basket and more importantly, getting to the line. He’s good enough with the ball to play the point and also showed an ability to knock down the outside shot when left alone. Consider him one of the top priorities in Indiana’s 2012 recruiting efforts.

After a tough 68-59 loss to Kyrie Irving and the New Jersey Roadrunners Saturday afternoon at the adidas May Classic, Indiana Elite guard Matt Carlino spoke with reporters at Assembly Hall.

Matt Carlino at Assembly Hall:

As a freshman, Marrero averaged 17 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks for a team that finished 19-4 and in the process, caught the eye of Indiana coach Tom Crean.

“He’s just trying to keep all of the best players in the 2012 class together,” Marrero said of Crean’s recruiting efforts for the 2012 class. “Bring another national championship to Indiana. That’s what he told me.”

Both the Hoosiers and Valparaiso have offered Marrero and he’s also hearing from Ohio State, Purdue, Illinois, Wake Forest, Oregon State and Miami.

“It’s cool,” Marrero said of the attention he’s receiving. “I’m keeping my mind open and trying to stay focused on the team. I really haven’t paid much attention to it cause I’m a freshman. I’m open minded, just looking around for now.”

After a tough loss to Team Pride in the quarterfinals of the adidas May Classic, Marrero talked about how his role on Spiece Indy Heat differs from his role at Bowman Academy.

“I play mostly two or three, sometimes four,” Marrero said. “With A.J. (Hammons) the big presence down there, I’m happy I can just roam around and shoot the jump shots now because at school I play the five.”

Scouting Report: At 6-5, Marrero is a versatile wing with a surprisingly polished game for his age. The fact he’s playing multiple positions will only make his game more well-rounded in the long run. He showed an ability to finish in transition and also get to the basket from the wing. When he wasn’t able to finish at the rim, he got to the foul line.

After a breakout sophomore season in which he averaged 16.7 points, 15.5 rebounds and four assists, the 6-6 Dawson is quickly gaining the attention of several high major programs, including Indiana.

“Indiana has offered,” Dawson said in Assembly Hall at the adidas May Classic. “I love Indiana. I came down here and visited once and I just love the atmosphere. They hustle, they play hard, they never give up. They just keep playing hard.”

Besides IU and Purdue, Dawson holds offers from UCLA, Georgetown and Minnesota. He’s also hearing from Butler, Iowa State, Xavier, Cincinnati and IUPUI.

Dawson hopes to see Bloomington again this summer and it might be in the company of his Lew Wallace teammates.

“My high school coach is trying to come down here for a team camp,” Dawson said. “I want to come, so I hope we make it and come down here and have fun.”

Scouting report: Dawson is long and extremely athletic which makes him a perfect candidate to be an impact player on the wing. He didn’t shoot much from the outside at the adidas May Classic, but he looked good in transition and also hit the boards hard. He’s already a very good prospect and with some work on his defense and ball handling, could become great.

Although Teague said he would make a decision in June, his father Shawn told The Indianapolis Star that a decision is not likely until after July due to a busy summer schedule.

After a meeting with Indiana Elite and IU commit Matt Carlino at Assembly Hall, Irving fielded questions from the media.

On what he saw during his unofficial visit to Indiana on Friday:

“I’m going to major in journalism. I heard they have one of the best journalism schools in the country. So they showed me around there.”

On how Coach Crean is trying to sell him on Indiana:

“Just to make an impact right away, come in and bring them to the Final Four and be the point guard that he needs.”

On whether or not his family came on the visit:

“No, not at all.”

On the influence his father has on his recruitment:

“He’s my adviser right now. He takes care of all the recruiting calls. He takes care of all of that. I just go out and play.”

On whether or not he’s played in front of thousands of fans during an AAU game before:

“No, not at all. This is a first and I enjoyed every minute of it. It really surprised me. I knew that people were going to come to the game, but I didn’t know it was going to be this turnout. It was great.”

On his play against Indiana Elite:

“I struggled with my jumpshot today. All of my teammates, I have trust in them and they picked me up in the second half. It was great. I love this court. I love everything about Indiana.”

On playing against Indiana commit Matt Carlino:

“He’s a good player. He’s a great point guard. He’s very elusive.”

On upcoming unofficial visits:

“I’m actually taking one to Notre Dame pretty soon and I might take one up at Duke when I’m at Bob Gibbons but that’s about it.”

On his list of schools:

“It’s not a definite twelve. It’s probably going to change. Most likely it’s going to change. I’ll probably add some and cut some off. I’m going to narrow it down to five after the whole AAU circuit gets done and take my five official visits.”

On a timetable for a decision:

“I’m going to make a decision next fall. That’s when I’m going to make a decision and get it over with.”

On whether or not there are any schools he’s sure will be in the final list of five:

“No, I don’t have any idea right now.”
