My God.. Look at the shopping spree Crean gets to go on in 2013 & 2014. By then we will be back in the mix and the recruits will be kicking in the doors to get into Bloomington. Its kinda like gardening. The weeds have all been removed. The soil has been prepped. The seeds have been planted and watered in. The crops are beginning to flourish and the Grand Harvest is a coming baby! GO HOOSIERS!

  • SeattleHoosier

Here’s my interpretation of this. We can sign one more for 2010-2011 and one more for 2011-2012. Is this correct?

Regarding oversigns, do we have one for each year (2010-2011 AND 2011-2012) or do we just have one total?

As you can tell, I’m a bit of a novice, so your help would be appreciated.

  • Kyle

Roth is not taking a medical redshift?

  • Anonymous

Doesn’t have to make that decision until he’s done with his senior season.

  • Ryan Goods

can anyone explain to me how the oversigning works? is 13 the maximum no questions asked, or does the oversign mean something special?

  • ArtistFormerlyKnownAs_Aceman07

I just don’t see CTC signing 5 players for 2013 to replace Hulls/Capo/Elston/Creek/Watford with all the talent in the 2014 class. Now, there is still a possibility that Creek could leave early and make that 2012 class even bigger but if everyone stays 4 from that class I think CTC holds one or two scholly’s for the 2014 class because it’s shaping up to be a 2012 type class and IU could bring in 3-4 top flight players instead of two if they fill the 2013 class.

    Any thoughts?

  • Jordan

So does Zeller count as the oversign for next years class?

  • Ryjadams

    Did Roth not redshirt?

  • Jon

From my understanding, Zeller takes the final spot in the 2011 class. However, per conference rules, IU can oversign by one.

  • Jon

On Roth’s bio page, it states the staff and Roth will decide after his senior year whether or not he will take a medical redshirt. That is typically how things go.

  • Jordan

So for 2012, we technically have two spots left?

  • coachv

i don’t know why people keep talking about creek and watford leaving early. they’re still young buy they have issues with their games. they could improve and make it but right now i’m not seeing it.

  • What is the answer. I want Gary Harris. Now. after Yogi commits we get Gary. Thats what we need to do.

  • Will

roth has more eligibility than this shows

  • Until he applies for and is granted a medical redshirt, he’s a junior. That’s how IU lists him eligibility wise as well.

Wow. Look at that roster in 2012, 2013 and 2014. I’m trying to mentally put together a starting lineup and there are just so many options. Obviously, a lot can change, but we’ve just got TONS of wing depth. This is exciting to look at (and I’m posting early on Wednesday, before Yogi’s decision). I can’t wait to see how this team performs over the next several years.

Looking at this grid, which is awesome by the way… if everyone stays and plays 4 years, I’d say 2012-13 begins our run of contending for national titles on a consistent basis. And even 2011-2012 looks loaded. Somebody pinch me.

I’d hate to push Roth out the door, but I don’t see him getting an overabundance of playing time if he redshirts. If he graduates on time, wouldn’t he be a candidate to transfer to another school with a graduate program not available at IU and play immediately for that final year? It’s the same situation that Roburt Sallie was trying to use (although he never graduated from Memphis.)

I kind of agree. Watford has the height and talent to go to the NBA, not sure if he will be ready after his Junior year though…. even so, both Watford and Creek as seniors would be better than getting in one new freshman IMO, I would rather have them for that year than get a new guy

  • Anonymous

Well no.. because the conference allows you to over sign 1 in that year, they don’t roll over to the next year if you don’t use them unfortunately. Yogi was our over sign, but if according to this if Roth doesn’t pursue his redshirt, we would still have the over sign for harris. The problem is, someone would still have to transfer for him to get to campus. I wouldn’t worry about this though, these things tend to work themselves out as someone will transfer or what not. Hell, these verbals aren’t concrete anyway, I hope they are, but it isn’t a contract so anything can happen.

  • ArtistFormerlyKnownAs_Aceman07

I totally agree with you guys. I would love to see CWat and Mo stay for four years and I honestly don’t think either will be ready to leave early but you just never know.

  • ArtistFormerlyKnownAs_Aceman07

I hate to say this but I think the best chance at a championship if everyone stays four years (and you never know) is that 2014-2015 season! Just look at those first six players as juniors and seniors. You could start any combo of the five of them (out of six) and that would be a top 5 starting lineup. Then you add two strong sophomores already and two of the top 10 freshman already and there’s still three open spots!

I have to say after seeing some highlights recently that Lyles looks like he could potentially be the best player EVER to play at IU. I watched him bring the ball down the floor and run the point at 6’8″-6’9″ and he’s smooth. He’s only going to get better, bigger, and stronger and he has a complete skill set the likes of which college basketball hasn’t seen since maybe Larry and Magic! He can shoot, handle, pass, drive, rebound, make moves in the post, and defend and he’s only a 6’9″ freshman!

You take those players on that 2014-15 roster and add probably the best freshman in basketball and they compete for a championship. Just think about what guys like Carmello, Rose, Wall, etc. did for their teams and they had a lot of other young players playing with them (and two had Cali”choke-artist” coaching them). Now, imagine that high impact, top-rated freshman coming in and playing with the likes of juniors and seniors such as Zeller, Etherington, and Yogi!

I’m predicting the 6th banner no later than 2014-2015! Write it down!

    BOOOOOOOOOM!!

  • HoosierFromCT

“if everyone stays and plays 4 years….”. That might be the biggest “IF” of all time.

  • Anonymous

Yeah Hoosier, in the coming years we may have guys that leave early. I was only referring from now thru 2012-13. In the 2012-13 class, the only players that could consider going pro and skipping that year would be Creek and Watford in their Sr years. Unless we do extremely well this year and next, I like our chances of both those guys staying all four years.

  • ArtistFormerlyKnownAs_Aceman07

I can see Perea being a 2 and done and if they get Harris he could be a 1-2 and done but I see everyone else as 3-4 year players!

  • 2012-2013 season looks championship caliber. Top 5 class as seniors and a top 5 (I’m guessing) class coming in as freshman, with Zeller and crew as sophomores and juniors!

  • Guess it’s time to update this board again. *sigh*

  • This will be updated in the coming days. It opens up a scholarship next season, however, if another 2011 recruit is signed, that will effect 2012 and beyond.

  • Tlt05c

He is coming back for grad school. He could probably apply for a medical redshirt in 2012-2013, but I would hope he doesn’t. He is a smart enough guy to look at that team and realize where he falls.

  • How is it possible to get Harris or McGary let alone both?

  • Well, I guess with the news on Hanner Perea receiving benefits, we will probably have room for one. Still don’t know how we sign both.

  • IUhupz

Come on.  Parea isnt going anywhere.  If the NCAA finds that he received illegal benefits from Adams, then at most he misses a few games.  And Im not sure if he is, but if Adams is his legal guardian, then those are not illegal gifts.

That Fish article is a non-story.  Dont worry about it.

  • I sure hope your right. I would love to see Hanner suiting up in candy stripes. That kid is super athletic!

  • Anonymous

Hope you need to add a row for the oversign this week, but I’m cautiously pessimistic

  • What is the status of Ron Patterson signing? It was supposed to happen 30 minutes ago.

  • Will we be able to sign Harris since Creek is likely out for the year?

  • Guess it doesn’t matter.

  • In the end this really didn’t matter. We couldn’t land either player.

  • InTheMtns

The #14 row is the oversign row. Div 1 can have 13 scholarship players. BigTen allows one oversign (until the season starts and then the number has to be down to 13).

  • InTheMtns

Wouldn’t have had anything to do with Creek anyway. Creek is out this year and Harris is in high school this year. Creek is on scholarship this year and will be next year also if he is able to play, so his spot isn’t open.

  • The real question about Creek was, do we think he will return at all. I pull for the guy but his body is telling him absolutely not!

  • IUJeff

Looks like this needs updated to show Daniel Moore’s scholly.

  • Very true, glad to see him get one. This kid has worked very hard.

  • Tk1712

Wow. Not a ton of NBA talent but SOOO much depth in the 2012-13 team. Looking at it now, I can hardly think of any one of those guys that shouldn’t get decent minutes. I’d be stunned if we aren’t at LEAST Elite Eight or even Final Four caliber next year. That strong of a bench will just destroy shallow teams like Kentucky and Ohio State, for example. With Crean’s fast-paced style, he’ll easily wear down teams during March Madness.

Alex, isn’t it time to move Mo to class of 2014?  Or is it a Roth-type situation — he’ll take the medical redshirt if there’s the scholly there for him?

  • Can’t get a redshirt until he exhausts his eligibility, so we’ll make changes once that happens.
