Five-star New Albany guard Romeo Langford trims list to seven

Five-star class of 2018 New Albany guard Romeo Langford has narrowed his list to seven schools.

Langford’s father, Tim, confirmed to Inside the Hall that his son is considering Kentucky, Louisville, Indiana, UCLA, Kansas, Vanderbilt and North Carolina.

The news was first reported by Brian Snow of Scout.com.

Langford is the No. 5 prospect nationally, according to the 247Composite. In July, he spoke to Inside the Hall at the All-In Hoopfest in Louisville about IU’s recruiting pitch.

“(It’s) just the legacy I would have at Indiana because I’m from Indiana,” he explained. “If I go to Indiana, everybody is going to love me.”

The 6-foot-5 guard isn’t expected to make a decision until next spring.

Indiana has three players – Jerome Hunter, Damezi Anderson and Robert Phinisee – already committed for the class of 2018.

There are many reasons for him to go to IU but the greatest is love!

  • IU Cal 1809

    No Duke is big!!!

  • Kyl470

What??? I thought Duke and Louisville were suppose to be the favorites.

  • Aceman_Mujezinovic_07

I think the best part about this list is he’s considering going to Vanderbilt. That means he’s not dumb!

  • calbert40

Reading tea leaves, since he completely left Duke off of the list, it makes me wonder if he’s not certain Coach K will be there. That’s the only real reason I can imagine for NOT having a potential favorite in his first big cut.

  • Mr. Shep-dizzle

Since he considers Louisville his home team and he said he’s not worried about their violations, imo they’re the team to beat. I think it will come down to them and IU and he will want to see how CM does this year with the talent he has.

I agree, he will leave a legacy and the state will love him. Reminiscent of you, Mr. Bailey! Get the scoring record and be the man for Indiana leading a new era in hoops. I think what sets us and Louisville apart from every other school on the list is RL has been our #1 the whole time. CTC, Archie and the rest of the state have wanted him since day one. I think if he chooses Indiana it will mean more than any of the other six schools he is considering. He is a game changer for Indiana in many respects. Hoosiers!

  • sarge

    Crimson looks better than blue.

  • pcantidote

I recall some people on here mocking others because it was a foregone conclusion that he was going to Duke. LOL.

  • AndyCapp

Expecting this, but nice to see it in black and white

  • AndyCapp

I agree that it will mean more to us than *any* other school listed. CTC may have prioritized him but, imo, no way we would even make the top seven if he were still our coach. Whether RL signs or not, Coach Miller is making great strides to get our top in-state prospects!

  • sarge

I agree completely. Coach Miller is doing great. We are in great shape, period.

  • IU Hoosiers # 34, 1979-83

I was mocked! No Duke baby!!!!

  • marcusgresham

Interesting that two of the seven are (or SHOULD be,) facing potentially substantial probations.

  • inLinE6

I didn’t think he’ll end up at Duke but was still surprised he cut it early. It looks like a two-way race between UL and us, which makes us in a lot better position.

Darius Garland also has Kentucky, Indiana, Kansas, UCLA and Vanderbilt on his final list of six schools. Hmmmm. Wouldn’t it be nice if we get him AND Romeo? If it happens, do we move to a 3-guard lineup to accommodate Devonte, Curtis and Al? And would Phinisee accept to be a backup for Garland? Hey, it doesn’t hurt to fantasize.

  • bball at nick’s

    The Imploder!

  • Outoftheloop

How could he NOT be worried about L’ville’s violations?

  • dwdkc

Apparently Kansas is still a serious player.

  • N71

I like your thinking. From history alone, not having seen anyone play yet in the new system, someone isn’t going to be happy and want out. No idea who that would be but we’ve been thing we have X scholarships available when it will probably be Y.

  • HardRockHoosier

Has anyone heard how the Keion Brooks visit went the other day? That would be a nice get as well.

  • TomJameson

Because even if Louisville gets sanctioned with no post-season play it wouldn’t matter because post-season play or not, Romeo is going to be a lottery pick. Personally though, I wouldn’t want to play through the drama. Would probably be a fairly big distraction.

  • WhatsUpKnight2.0

will be interesting to see where we stand once the crystal ball predictions are updated. this past july, a lot of people liked ul, and duke is still listed as 20%. so how will that 20% get dispersed?

  • Mr. Shep-dizzle

Just going off his quote in the paper.

  • Mr. Shep-dizzle

I don’t know how he couldn’t be, I’m just going off his quote. He said he knew they were coming and it was no big deal to him and nobody should be surprised they got hit with them.

  • Nate Kent

Acording to the other main IU site…. It went very well.

  • HoosierStuckInKY

Hopefully we’ll get to see it in cream and crimson!

  • MK

Where’s that dude that was mocking everyone saying Romeo was a lock for duke?

  • Koko

Agreed….I wouldn’t be surprised to see Coach K
    retire after this season.

  • AndyCapp

The sound you hear is of crickets chirping…

  • Outoftheloop

IU should definitely save one scholarship for Romeo until he says “no” to IU. I think that IU will be in his final 2!

  • Molon Labe

It could also be that he wants to play with Darius Garland. Let’s make an all in push to get both to come to IU.

  • Sherronhasaheadache

we have shot at Romeo but ells me he is going elsewhere. hope i am wrong. GO HOOSIERS!!

  • Aceman_Mujezinovic_07

True, but you don’t get into or have a chance to get into Vandy if you’re stupid.

  • calbert40

Depends on the season. During basketball season, absolutely. During baseball season…Go Cubs!
