Video: Aaron Henry Under Armour Association Open Finals highlights

One of the biggest risers of the summer was Ben Davis forward Aaron Henry.

Playing for Team Harris over three July evaluation periods, Henry amassed an impressive list of offers that includes Indiana, Michigan State, Missouri, Virginia Tech, Washington State, Illinois, TCU, Ohio State, UConn, Xavier, Nebraska, UMass, Butler and others.

We’ve compiled close to 90 seconds of video from Henry’s play at the Under Armour Association Open Finals during the first July evaluation period below:

Looked like he was a head taller than his competition.
Around the 1:00 mark was a really nice ball fake. He faked, took a step or two around and made a shot. The help closed out pretty nicely, but had his hands down and didn’t defend closely. The initial aggressive closeout on the ball fake is what needs to happen with Archie’s defense, but the help was weak and ineffectual. That’s what CAN’T happen. 🙂

Nice job Tom… but who else went directly to the one minute mark?

Haven’t seen a kid blow up this much over a summer than Aaron. The type of kid you want on your team and can play him all over the court. Hopefully IU is still on him….wouldn’t be upset if we got him over Romeo…..I know that is blasphemy…but I really like his game.

  • Ole Man

Sorry, but this kid doesn’t come close to Romeo.
Not so much blasphemy as Huh?

  • iugradmark

I am glad we have stayed on Aaron, but he seems to be doubting his place on the team after the three signees. I think things could start to move very quickly on this class. If we get Robert P. then there is just one more opening this fall as I believe we will wait until spring for Romeo to decide with our last scholarship.

  • MrNobody

Let’s just say I don’t want to see this kid in green again unless he’s already committed to IU. Would b fine if he n RP filled out our scolly’s.

  • Kelin Blab

Romeo is a nice player….but you win with Henry….He has a larger impact on the game to me. Romeo scores a lot….but that is his calling card.

  • Ole Man

    Henry is a “nice” player.
Romeo is an impact, lotto draft, elevates the game and his teammates player.
No way Henry impacts the game more than Romeo.
And Romeo is much more than a scorer. He is a “player.”

  • HOOSIERS76!

But which player really wants to be a Hoosier and wearing those candy stripes! I want players who play with heart and don’t have to fight themselves to make the decision to come to Bloomington. If IU is merely a nice “platform” or “stepping stone” for the kid to “showcase his skills” for the NBA, then please go elsewhere.

  • Ole Man

Kinda silly when you stop to think that they all want Indiana when they first announce their commitment.
And if IU is to ever reach the pinnacle again it needs its share of one and dones.
I’ll take the one year five star over the barely 4 star every day of the week.

Gonna give Romeo a run for his money as “Best in the State”.

  • Kyl470

I’m assuming that is meant to be a joke.

  • Kyl470

You’d rather have a non top 100 player than a top 10 nationally ranked 5 star player? Come on man.

  • Kyl470

I’m with you. I feel like I’m in crazy town that people would want any player in the state over Romeo. That’s like Cleveland saying instead of signing to LeBron to a one year deal we would rather sign Gordon Heyward to a four year deal. Sorry one year of LeBron is better than 4 years of Heyward.

  • Kelin Blab

Having seen both guys….Romeo doesn’t impact the game on both ends. Henry plays in the toughest conference in the state and has a state title to show for it. Romeo has gaudy scoring numbers and would be a huge get for IU….but I am going by what I have seen on the court.

  • Kelin Blab

Yep….that top 10 means absolutely nothing on the court along with those 5 stars. I look at impact on the game and wins.

  • Kyl470

Romeo has a state title and a pretty solid Win – Loss record. But hey if you would rather have Aaron Henry over the kid who could be the all time leading scorer in Indiana high school basketball then I’m glad Archie doesn’t consult you for roster construction.

  • Kelin Blab

You sure Archie doesn’t consult me? IF you have the opportunity this year go watch both players….you will see what I see.

  • ScoopGeoff

Scored going left, going right, through contact, switching hands, 3 ptr off the catch, shot fake one-dribble jumper, off hand jump hook in the post, in transition, alley-oop….

Did I miss anything? It’s usually hard to tell much from highlight clips, but one thing seems promising – he can score in a variety of ways.

  • Brklynhoosier

Man, I like this kid a little more every time I see him…
