Thomas Bryant to sign with agent, remain in draft

Indiana sophomore forward Thomas Bryant will sign with an agent and remain in the 2017 NBA draft, Inside the Hall has confirmed.

The news was first reported by Evan Daniels of Scout.com.

The 6-foot-10 forward has been invited to next month’s NBA draft combine in Chicago.

Bryant is currently ranked as the No. 42 prospect for June’s draft, according to DraftExpress.com, and the No. 45 prospect according to Chad Ford of ESPN.com.

As a sophomore, Bryant averaged 12.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 28.1 minutes per game.

Bryant is the second Indiana player to leave school early this year and sign with an agent, joining OG Anunoby. Both James Blackmon Jr. and Robert Johnson have also declared for the draft, but neither has signed with an agent.

Indiana is now at 14 scholarship players for next season, which is one over the limit.

LOL, I almost guessed that you were a lawyer but didn’t want to insult you (that’s a joke). This is a Bball OPINION forum. It’s not semantics, it’s bad form to attack another individual just because their views are different than your own, no matter how strongly you feel about them.

And BTW, I happen to agree with most of what you wrote. Just leave the personal attacks out of it. You have a good day too.

Bryant’s foot speed will keep him from being a 1st rounder. I think TP will be an asset.

  • Ole Man

According to pro scouts from last year TB has really good foot work. He was rarely put in a position to use it.
    TP???????

Vicbert!!! Wonderful to read your comments. You have been gone to long.

I’m not so sure we don’t finish in the bottom half. If we make the tourney, kudos to Archie. Not saying we have a bad team just saying others have better rosters. Clifton Moore needs to hit the weight room and contribute right away. DD needs to improve greatly. I haven’t even seen him dunk. He makes a good Max without the long shot, but we need stud starter minutes from DD. CH at center didn’t work before. Good news is the scholly situation seems to have worked itself out as we all knew and we have a new coach and a new system and I’m excited to see them prove me wrong!

  • Todd Lindeman

Were not as bad as we were a few years ago when Perea was our only big guy with no real backup, But we really dont have any true back up for DD, good news is we arent completely small like a few years ago. If we run and we will have to we should be fine. Difference should be to play fast but not hurried.. I think it was 2014-2015 team.

Good post PC and completely agree. Glad you said it, saved me some time. Big mistake If CTC was the one who held him back last year then logically he should give Archie a try. Instead of being a huge part of something big. He chose to go small. Either he was truly dedicated to CTC or he was ready to make money. Trying to remember an IU guy drafted in the mid 2nd round have a stellar career. Look at Vonleh, he was a lottery pick and it took him 3 years to just play in the NBA. I’m looking at Thomas as like Victor. Us that junior season to BE THE MAN. We are probably in the minority, but he should have stayed. Money is the influence and that weighs huge over what is best as a career move for most. I wish him well, but I more wish he was with us next year cuz we’d be really really good

Another great post. The only way to find out is wait. Sorry but I think Thomas will be swallowed up by the big fish in the NBA. Swanigan was a good example. For a guy who seems to be driven on his emotions, he would be served better to be a part of something potentially big and greatly improve his draft status. Getting drafted mid second round to make money but not be a big part of anything other than a paycheck an emotional person will regret later.

  • vicbert caladipo

As usual you have the level head. Exactly! No ones wishing ill will for Thomas. Just think the decision was a bad one. He’ll make his money and maybe do well, but I just think he should have given Archie a chance and improve your draft position. Mid 2nd round with a skillset where nothing stands out to me means learn more. Troy and Yogi had certain ithings they were top notch at. At this point, Thomas is a guy that over 100 other guys are better at. I seriously believe if CTC was still here so would TB

  • Honestly, I think you’re describing the team as if it were going to be coached by TC. I definitely think Archie and his staff will prove you wrong — there’s a ton of talent here, at least as good as the middle of the B1G. I think Archie will do a good job of getting the most out of the time he has before the season and will hit the ground running.

  • Obviously, generally speaking I think you’re being a bit gloomy. However, that aside, why do you say that about scholarships? We’re still oversigned by one, and I’m thinking there’s a good chance both RJ (for sure) and JBJ return.

  • vicbert caladipo

Because I don’t think both return and I also think someone else bails. I am gloomy because everything seemed to be falling into Archies lap for a smooth and successful transition, but now I feel it will be growing pains. You know me though, I will be excited to see whoever plays for us, just hoped I would be watching TB. Selfish on my part yes, but I also think he would be better served one more year

  • vicbert caladipo

I was very prepared for a rebuilding year, but when I saw no one bailing, I thought this could be a special team. First OG and now TB, expected OG because of the injuries and the iron is hot for him to jump, but really felt TB would benefit from another year. If I can make it through the Crean years, I can be patient with Archie. Just dam. I’m a dreamer and I dreamed of TB redeeming himself as bigten POY and the Hoosiers having a shot in the tourney

  • I suppose that’s where we differ then. I never expected TB to be back, before or after TC was fired. And the roster looks better than I expected before we knew who the new coach would be. So to me, things continue to go extremely well. I’ll be disappointed if JBJ doesn’t return, but even then I think Archie will be able to accomplish what I’ve expected for next year — top half B1G finish and making the tournament. Anything more than that would be gravy before Archie has a chance to build his own team.

  • vicbert caladipo

I didn’t expect him back either but after I saw Archies ability to retain all the players(so far) and what this team could be with TB and how he’d really make a bigger name for himself, I was disappointed with the decision. Making the tourney would be a big feather in AMs hat

  • I expect us to beat who we’re expected to beat, and be competitive in every game. And make the tournament. So I think you’ll be happier with the season than you’re expecting — but of course, this is all just speculation and a lot remains to be seen. I’m excited to see it all play out, though, and more than I expected to be, so I’m very happy about IU basketball at this point.

  • vicbert caladipo

Didn’t have anything to say. Haha!!

  • SeeingRed

True, CTC didn’t have TB in good places to be fed. Guards kept giving it to him where he was — 20+ feet from the rim. And nothing good was happening out there. So I don’t put that much of it on the guards.
