OG Anunoby’s sophomore season is over, Indiana confirmed on Friday afternoon. The news was first reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports and the Vertical.

“It has been determined that OG Anunoby will undergo surgery on his right knee and will miss the remainder of the season,” Indiana coach Tom Crean said in a statement. “He is expected to make a complete recovery. For a young man, OG has a very strong faith and a courageous spirit. We are going to do everything as a basketball family to help him recover and rehabilitate from this unfortunate situation.”

Anunoby averaged 11.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks in 25.1 minutes per game this season.

Indiana hosts Michigan State on Saturday afternoon at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.

Every 1st round contract is a guaranteed contract in the NBA. But the money one makes from being a lottery pick vs. an end-of-the-1st-round pick is substantial over the life of the contract. It may be that OG could come back next season (and play well) and make more guaranteed money in the next 4 years than he could if he leaves for this year’s draft and goes in the 25-28 range of the 1st round.

Depressing news day – OG gone til next year, Priller apparently sacrificed for the good of the scholly situation, and I also hear evidently we have a Kardashian as President.

  • And CH, who’s going through it right now, I’d imagine.

  • Okay, thanks, got it. I think I was thinking that only lottery picks were guaranteed. So, okay, then in that case I’d recommend him going if he can still get picked in the first round. Too much could happen otherwise if he comes back — as much as I’d personally love to see him come back to IU next year and have a great season.

Sand pit seems like it would be low impact. It might be a way to reduce injuries. But I have no idea, I’m sure the professional trainer know what they are doing.

why does it seem so many players recently have had knee injuries ? is it the training? the shoes ? what is going on at iu ?

i don’t know either…kinda going by personal experience. I’m an old man now but, when i do sporting activities on beach it seems i feel extra strain in the knee. just brainstorming

I have no source .. off top of head ..but .this year has been hartman/mcswain/davis and now obi juan with knee problems. Could be something else, seems high though.

  • DD and McSwain came into the program with issues from high school. JM’s injury is with his ankle, from stepping on a ref’s foot.

If I had to guess, I’d say that IU is in the snake bit side of the spectrum, but nothing so bad as to indicate there’s anything wrong with the program’s conditioning program.
