Five-star forward Kris Wilkes trims list to three

  • 10/06/2016 10:42 pm in

Five-star class of 2017 North Central forward Kris Wilkes has eliminated two schools and now has a final three.

According to Kyle Neddenriep of The Indianapolis Star, Wilkes is no longer considering Xavier and UConn and will no longer take previously scheduled official visits to those schools.

The three remaining schools Wilkes is considering: Indiana, Illinois and UCLA.

That means the official visit to Indiana, which took place last weekend, will be the last official visit Wilkes will take before making a decision.

Wilkes is ranked the No. 18 prospect nationally according to the 247Composite. As a junior at North Central, he averaged 22.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.

Indiana currently has three commitments for in the class of 2017: Al Durham, Justin Smith and Clifton Moore.

I’ve lived in Virginia and South Carolina but the good people in NC do know basketball. I live in Clemson country. Sports Radio will do a segment on basketball and its not even half way through the segment and they’re on to college football.

  • Ole Man

Yep. It’s sad that “football is king” in both those states. And GA and FL are even worse. NC seems to be the only place where basketball is at least even.

  • bleeding crimson

Maybe he has already decided and just wanted to keep the excitement up for his announcement…he has to narrow it down to two or three to make it interesting.

  • BL4IU

and may be friends with Tilmon.

  • BL4IU

Wonder if he is waiting for late interest by another school?

  • Piker

I would not call 50% to 40% a heavy favorite. And I would say last visit that results in two other school visit cancellations is always positive. Plus another poster who I agree with pointed out UCLA is not what IU is when it comes to basketball fan support at attendance and so on….let alone playing in Big is much better then playing in PAC. I think IU has the edge. 247 best guy is batting like 75%. The only time I believe 247 is right at the bell…..they all go to the guy because one of them found out where he is going and all the rest follow suit. I will agree with your post the IL has a very good class that would turn to #1 if KW went there….just don’t see KW going across the border. IU kids don’t often do that unless it’s PUKE.

247 has ucla 50 % indiana 40% on their crystal ball predictions currently

Don’t remember exactly where, but 24/7 has us at:

    Natl Rank: 26
    Big-Ten Rank: 5
    Avg Rating: 0.9084

Love our class so far; believe Moore will rise in the rankings, which will help with our ratings, etc.

  • Bruce Clark

    It’s now 50/40/10. C’mon Kris, be a Hoosier legend!

  • LA is the most shallow and boring city that I’ve been to in the United States. Can’t imagine living there for more than a weekend. Sure, the weather is nice, but it has absolutely nothing else going for it.

  • I live in NYC and this is true. LA is nothing compared to NYC. LA is even crap compared to Bloomington.

  • Bruce Clark

That’s always concerning. Looking at our class for next year, plus those I believe will be returning, Wilkes will have all he can handle in practice, which will make him a much better player.

  • Berned Out

It’s the latest trend that counts. I think he’s ours.

  • John D Murphy

My recollection was that he wasn’t offered the scholarship for his 5th year and that we were already oversigned and that Creek got Creaned.

  • John D Murphy

He will probably wait to see turns pro. If OG goes, we have a much better chance of landing KW. If OG is back, KW may decide there will not be enough PT in Bloomington.

  • SilentBob

He’s going there for college, not to be an average working class civilian. And if he wins I’m sure plenty of people will know him. Everybody has their preferences, I like living slightly out in the country. But not so much where I can’t get to a grocery store or gas station 10 minutes or less. But still lots of young people love the glamour of Cali and I can’t blame them. As you say, just too many things to do

  • SilentBob

Again personal opinion, that I may not disagree with. I’ve never been to LA. I’m just saying I’m not all that far removed from Kris in terms of age. And I know how young people think of these places, and I can’t blame them. Plus shallow places and teenagers seem to go hand and hand lol. No offense to any teenagers who may be on here, it just seems to be a natural part of lot of people’s growing up process lol. Certainly was a part of mine, but it may not even be that that attracts. Him was really all more of a joke than anything.

  • SilentBob

I’m neon white lol. Like the closest you can get to being albino without being classified as albino haha. And I have terrible allergies. I was the kid that could never leave the house without his inhaler in his pocket lol.

  • Berned Out

    I feel sorry for you!

  • Berned Out

Nothing impresses you. LOL. If we’d said Chicago, you would have said LA.

  • Berned Out

    Best city in the world.

  • Berned Out

LA is much more spread out. You couldn’t have possibly sampled enough women. Maybe we should ask Trump, LOL.

  • Groce has a stout class next year. I wonder how he’s getting the top recruits with his record. Seems like an amazing salesman, so it wouldn’t surprise me if Wilkes buys his pitch.

SoCal is best, but pac10 TV ratings suck. Games are too late for rest of country. If he wants more national exposure, B1G is the place to get it. I think it’s between Illinois and iu

  • TomJameson

Crean said he hesitated playing Creek because of his horrific injuries. Creek transferred to start playing again, with Creans support. CTC is not so shallow to do what you are implying, he really cares for “his kids”, and it shows in everything he does for them. Especially players like Creek.

  • SilentBob

If he’s already at three, then it seems unlikely he lets this drag in until he could know that. Unless he gets discontent, and let’s other schools in. Which is always bad news.

  • b_side

I’m not implying that Crean is shallow. I’m implying that Crean likely couldn’t guarantee an increase in minutes from 2012-13. That’s a far cry from “not caring”.

Creek was healthy (enough) in 2012-13. He played double digit minutes during the non-conference, but slowly saw his role decrease as guys like Hollowell and Remy played ahead of him.

I have no doubt that Crean cares for Creek as much as any player. But he also gives his players a realistic outlook on their role. He empowers them to make a decision that is best for their future. Given that he’s now playing ball in Europe, showing overseas scouts he was capable of starter’s minutes in the A10 helped secure a contract.

  • marcusgresham

I don’t know about the intelligent part, but as for the beautiful, I would suspect Miami does OK…….and Reykjavik probably has them all beaten!!!!!

  • marcusgresham

Could be, but if so he won’t get to celebrate a banner with her at that school like he could at IU.
Would you rather have a girl in Champaign or champagne in your girl?!

  • marcusgresham

I just thought you had the hiccups.

  • Eljay

Factor in the comparison of playing to a half-full Pauly Pavilion to playing in Assembly Hall with fans packed to the rafters…

  • bleeding crimson

Kris just needs to go ahead a commit instead of waiting for an official announcement…what happens if someone else commits before he does, then we are screwed….right. A couple other guys waiting for obvious reasons but if he is really waiting just to have a presser………?

  • Piker

    It is somewhere in between

  • Piker

I still remember when he put the IU hat on. It was great. He is good for IU. All 4 or 5 stars aspire for the NBA. I agree injury free and a good year JBJ is NBA bound. Still one of the best shooters in CBB. That countsl forget the rest.

  • Piker

In my world they are in every County. KW will do well in any anywhere. If it’s BB and good looking women then it’s IU

  • Ole Man

    Amen, Bro!

  • Ole Man

    Dang! Sorry about that, Dude!

  • Ole Man

    Totally agree. LA is overrated!!

  • Ole Man

So, not Top 20 or close as of yet. 🙂
    Thanks for sharing the stats.

  • Bruce Clark

I recall seeing that we are at 20 nationally and 3 for Big Ten recruiting but cannot remember which recruiting site I saw it on. Since many top recruits have not yet committed, expect there to be large shifts in ratings…

  • HardRockHoosier

Ha, ha, ha… That was so weird.. It just started creating all of these posts and I wasn’t doing anything.. or at least that I was aware of.. I thought I was having some kind of ‘cerebral’ experience…lol..

  • TomJameson

I guess it was just the way you said it. But, Crean did say publicly that he didn’t want to play Creek because of his injuries. I’m glad Creek is enjoying a career in basketball, Like everyone else, I really liked him and was/am pulling for him all the way

  • Bruce Clark

    CBS Sports:

Indiana secured its third commitment from the Class of 2017 this weekend when Clifton Moore pledged. The 6-8 forward is ranked 133rd nationally, according to 247Sports. IU’s class is currently ranked 15th nationally and fourth in the Big Ten.

  • Let me put it this way: I hope for both his and IU’s sake that he has a year that’s good enough to put him squarely in the NBA. If he does, then I think we’re going to be pretty happy as fans.

  • puddingpudding

From reading this, it doesn’t seem like you’ve spent much time in LA. LA has a segregated population, is a very isolating city in which everyone just drives in their cars and these great artists you refer to are never to be seen. You want what you’re talking about? Try New York.

I was most concerned about Kevin Ollie. With UConn out, think IU is place to go.

  • millzy32

Enjoy your naivete. The fast track gives both coach and player more options and it’s done by design. Most kids at IU are going for 4 years but the basketball players are all tracking at 3. Are basketball players smarter than everyone else and so much more dedicated to studies? They definitely have more advantages when it comes to tutors and that sort of thing but they also have a lot more time commitments like practice. What if Priller wants to stay another year and play and take a spot from one of the incoming freshmen? Are you down for that?

  • millzy32

Well that depends. I can’t remember whether I was Dayton a girl from Eaton or ??????????????????????????????

  • TomJameson

I’m not naïve about anything, not even close. I’m nearly 62 years old, have been around the world and have seen things and been places you probably never will. I’ve also gotten to know people from all over the world and I’ve seen your type many times before.

You’re the kind of person that has an opinion, so thinks it’s a fact. You misrepresent and twist some truisms around to “prove” your point and you completely disregard anyone else’s opinions. Then you throw in something that some folks may not like and say “see???”

I guess if it helps you to call somebody naïve just because they have a different opinion, then that’s okay, whatever helps you out. In my opinion, you are still wrong … I’ll stop there.

  • SilentBob

Thanks for sympathy, but there are far worse problems to have than having to use a high SPF sunscreen and having to remember to put an extra item in my pocket lol.

  • millzy32

There are optimists, pessimists, realists, and delusional people in this world. I’m a realist although you probably see me as a pessimist. I take things for what I see and use the information I’m given to make assertions. You choose to have different assertions and that’s fine. You also choose to call others wrong and that’s fine too just know that you are being a lot more closed minded than I am in that statement. I state my opinions and you state that I am wrong. Good to hear that you are a world traveler. That and 4 bucks will get you the same cup of coffee at a starbucks close by.

  • Bill Gluckman

Most boring city in the United States? Where do you live my friend that’s so much more interesting than LA?
