Class of 2017 Stevenson (Ill.) forward Justin Smith, one of Indiana’s top recruiting targets, is down to two schools according to a report.

Jeff Borzello of ESPN.com reported on Friday morning that the 6-foot-7 Smith will choose between Indiana and Villanova.

Smith has taken official visits to both schools. He had an official visit scheduled to Stanford for later this month, but that will no longer take place.

The four-star prospect is ranked No. 76 nationally in the 247Composite.

Smith averaged 8.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game this year on the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) circuit.

As a junior at Stevenson, he averaged 19 points and nine rebounds per game.

Yes! More than ready for someone that has the same initials as me. Looking forward to all the forum threads! 🙂

I think we have a good chance of getting Smith. The real question is, how does that affect our recruiting of Kris Wilkes and Jordan Tucker? Are we planning to get more than one at this position? If not, how do we prioritize?

My opinion is that it will not affect Wilkes in the least. However, IF he does sign with IU than I think Tucker goes elsewhere.

I believe that IU is wanting 2 wings … Wilkes, combined with either Smith or Tucker, would be a very nice duo.

Crystal ball gave it 100% to IU. When does he actually announce?

I like his nose for the bucket. From the highlights he is always moving toward the basket and looking to score. IU likes to score. Justin likes to score. And I like to watch players in IU uniforms score. This looks like an excellent fit!

Read UI’s take on Stevens last year and they were very high on the young man. I like his high basketball IQ and he seems very fundamentally sound. Go TC!

Has a really nice smooth stroke shooting the three!

Does this kid remind anyone else of Reggie Theus a bit?

Yes, they want wilkes and smith real bad from what I hear.

With similarish styles of play, I’m shocked we haven’t locked horns with Villanova more in the past. They’re a real pain in the you know what this year

  • millzy32

I wonder why. You’d think they won a title or something recently. Oh wait what?

  • SilentBob

True that, but not like they came out of the blue. Wright just finally got that monkey off his back of seemingly always dropping out early. I’m not surprised by their current level of annoyance, I am surprised by their past lack of annoyance.
