Class of 2017 The Maret School (D.C.) and Team Takeover big man Luka Garza picked up a scholarship offer from Indiana over the summer and was watched closely in July by the coaching staff. In the EYBL Finals at the Peach Jam, Garza averaged 9.4 points, 9.0 rebounds and one block in 26.2 minutes per game.

With the help of Krossover, we recently broke down some film of Garza from the Peach Jam to provide Indiana fans with a feel for his game and style of play.

You can find more Nike EYBL highlights at Krossover.

Seems like a pretty well rounded offensive player..definitely has a face the basket game.. Strength and defense ability hard to discern from this highlite tape. Guess IU is on his list..has he ever or will he visit B-town?

I like his Larry Bird esque shot and following his shot for a rebound attempt. Great offensively, knows how to space and where he can find his shot. He seems tough and strong down low.

Nice to see he can knock down open shots and goes for rebounds. His legs look really stiff and straight, not a lot of hops or jump in his “jumper”. Reminds me of Dirk a little seeing him run and jump, or at least attempt to run and jump. Nice touch with both hands around the basket though so seems like a solid kid.

I know it’s a mixtape, but you could definitely see his versatility on the offensive side of the court. He worked out of the post, got to the hoop off the bounce, played a little pick and pop, and shot some spot up jumpers from deep.
But…I’m not sure he fits IU’s system as a big. I’ve said this before, CTC’s system has a 1 (that scores the ball), wings, and a 5. Because IU plays only one big, that individual has to be a plus rebounder, covers space on defense, and a solid rim defender. I don’t think his perimeter game is good enough to be a “wing” and he’s not a force down low as a “big”. Put him next to an athletic D first big or an undersized 4 man that plays around the basket and I think he would fit great. Not sure if that team or system is IU.

About the 2.32 mark … could that be considered a pass to himself? lol

I like his rebounding, good position and good recognition, those skills will translate well to the next level.

  • I could disect this but I’m not going to. I sensed zero hunger/demand to own the middle, a la Zeller or Bryant. Seems like a regular basketball player who happens to be tall. Nopers.

Brad Miller 2.0…a really good player by the way.

Bank stays open all day and night for this guy, he’ll need that with limited hops. Like the rebounding numbers too. Not rail thin, can put the ball on the floor, and work tremendously well off the pick and pop. I like him, should be a quality back up at the least as a freshmen.

Well said. I miss old B-rad.
