Blue Ribbon revealed the cover for its annual college basketball yearbook today and it features the publication’s All-America picks for next season.

Indiana sophomore center Thomas Bryant is one of the five selections along with Maryland’s Melo Trimble, Duke’s Grayson Allen, Cal’s Ivan Rabb and Wisconsin’s Nigel Hayes.

As a freshman, Bryant averaged 11.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and one assists in 22.6 minutes per game. He shot 70.7 percent on 2-point field goals, which ranked fourth in the country.

Bryant also ranked in the top ten in the conference in both offensive and defensive rebounding percentage.

Wow, I didn’t expect 3 from the Big Ten. Congratulations to Thomas, he deserves it for all that he has given Indiana. I am glad that his hard work is paying off before the season even starts. Now let’s start the season already and hang banner #6!

    Damn skippy!

I’ve never really understood the point of pre season awards and honors. I get that it’s mainly media driven to sell magazines or act as click bait on the internet. However, I’m glad to see Bryant make the list. I hope that he becomes the most dominant center in college basketball this year.

I believe in the pic above, that’s when Thomas Bryant was screaming to the crowd, “This is why I’m here!”

    Love that kid.

  • sarge

He is one of a kind. I love his heart and love of the game. I am glad he is a Hoosier. The fact that he said that during the Kentucky game makes him one of my all time favorites. I love that guy too!

  • HoosierStuckInKY

Completely agree. The recognition is nice I suppose. But one the season starts they really don’t mean anything.

  • SCHoosier

Nothing like putting some pressure on a young man! Hope this isn’t like being featured on the cover of SI…no jinx needed! Could happen if TB gets enuff touches from a ball mmovement offense that can space the floor with the 3!

  • Sherronhasaheadache

congrats TB, a hard working, smart fellow he is. lead us to the promised land big T

  • E Foy McNaughton

WOW – TB Getting the love! I’d also note the recent espn article that referred to IU’s front court of TB, OG, & DD being “loaded”
Ah – now they just need to translate the projections to the court.

  • sarge

Yeah, if we only had some shooters to go with that frontcourt. Ohh wait. This could be an epic year. Bring on the Jayhawks!

  • E Foy McNaughton

Oh yeah Sarge! JBJ, RJ, CH, OG, DG, CUJO…. heck maybe even Tim Priller will make a couple of 3’s!!!!!!!!!!

I can’ t stop thinking about how exciting this season is going to be with all our talent and depth. With that said, I truly believe our coach has grown so much over the years as well. He seems to have simplified the defense in contrast to the puzzling days of switching defensive schemes in the middle of a possession. I believe it was worth a shot, because our defense was just that bad throughout most of his tenure here. But I’m just thankful that we are back to fundamental basketball, or so it seems, at least.

On another note, are we not still over the Scholarship limit by one??? I was thinking we still were, no? And if we are, what is the hold up? Should we not have already released someone like Tim Priller.

I bet Thomas Bryant enjoys the very nice critique!

  • Richard Bell

    Congrats to Thomas.

OG is SO much better than Nigel Hayes at BOTH ends of the court IMHO!!! Nigel is SO over-rated and OG would kill him one-on-one!!!. I can’t wait to see OG flourish into a lottery pick by the end of his Sophomore season along with TB! .. It’s going to be special!!!

  • Spooky

Don’t forget JN! I bet he could drill quite a few 3’s this season!

  • Bill Graham

As much as I hate Hayes…and as much as I like O.G. I have to disagree. Now that Uthoff and Layman are gone Hayes is the only 6-8 or taller player who could play the 1-5 on the court…I don’t think O.G. fits in that category just yet…his handles are not as good as guards and he struggles to create a shot off of a drive sometimes…however, with that said after all of the offseason hype I’d fully expect O.G. to be close to (or even above) Hayes’ level for this upcoming season

  • Bill Graham

Hey Thomas where’s banner number six going? See the picture for the answer.

  • TomJameson

I want to see Hayes play when the other team’s defensive focus is on him, and not on Uthoff and/or Layman. Until then, I’m on the fence about Hayes.

  • Spooky

Right! Hayes has NEVER looked dominant! And he DEFINITELY doesn’t have the spring boards that OG does. And I’ll be waiting to see Hayes hit 3’s and display a 360 dunk like OG. NO WAY. OG ALL DAY.

  • TomJameson

    Love your enthusiasm man. Truly!

  • Spooky

    YES SIR!!!

  • CreanFaithful

No. We only went over when Freddie verbal’d and Troy had yet to declare.

  • Gary

OH My, the Crimson colored glasses are plentiful!! Don;t forget you all still have Crean to screw things up. Over-rated!
