Doesn’t appear that confidence is going to be a problem.

  • HoosierStuckInKY

    Yeah but can he dunk?

  • Bill Graham

This might be an unpopular post but I feel like this needs to be said:

Love this kids game! He has to be our top priority in the 2017 class….I will say though I’ve never been fond of the whole “I just dunked on you so now I’m gonna act tough and rub it in your face thing…” Confidence is great! I love that this kid has confidence…but at the same time college basketball is much more competitive than high school. That same guy you just dunked on (and rubbed his face in it) may come back and burn you because of your arrogance…The classic example is Reggie Miller vs Spike Lee.

Also, I don’t like programs with arrogant players…its not classy and I don’t think it represents us well. Playing with confidence and an edge is different…but the beginning of this kids highlights display arrogance. Classic story about Bob Knight and Michael Crabtree. When Knight was at Texas Tech he went to scout Crabtree at an AAU game. Crabtree was dunking on people and rubbing it in their faces. Finally Knight had enough of it and yelled, “OH!Shut the h*** up and play Crabtree!” Crabtree was fairly quiet for the rest of the game…Even our old boisterous and borderline arrogant coach didn’t like arrogance so I doubt Crean does either.

I want guys like Vic. That will dunk on someone and then smile and run back on D.

    Anyway enough of my rant…

  • Fivelefts

    I agree with you Bill..

  • Fivelefts

Scruggs had some nice assist! Would be good to have them both!

  • SCHoosier

We can only keep our fingers crossed on Wilkes. Tc can make him a lottery hoice in two years.

  • marcusgresham

While I agree with what you’re saying, I’m going to defend the kid here. On almost every one of these shots he did just simply turn around and head back down the floor. The only one where I really saw him get in someone’s face he took some contact. It wasn’t “major” contact, but if you’re up that high (I’m assuming here, I’ve never personally been up there,) and you take contact low it could feel like a bit of an undercut.
I’d also say, given the fact that he didn’t seem to do it on an even semi-regular basis, that maybe it’s the backside of what you said. He could have been reacting in response to someone who had talked some smack to him. I don’t know, but from what I saw there I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Hell, he’s a lot less animated than Will Sheehey and I’d be thrilled to have him back.

  • straight no chaser

I love him. Don’t worry, no one’s into vendettas here. They’re just kids having fun.
Oh, and Knight is an uptight ego maniac. I don’t care to consider what he might think of Wilkes. Vic and Kris are two different people. Deal with each on his own terms.

  • Piker

What I don’t like is Wilkes and Scruggs showing up at multiple iu games more than likely comp and acting like yeah IU then not backing it up by commiting. I am getting tired of these Indiana kids not coming to IU…stringing us along then going elsewhere…sorry just tired of seeing crystal ball going xavier or UCLA. I think I am even thinking Alford is a traitor. Back to my beer.

  • twoturntables

Wilkes is and should be our #1 priority for 2017. Impact player we’ve spent a lot of time recruiting. Wilkes and Davis would be a beast front court next year after Bryant/OG are drafted and Hartman graduates. North Central is going to continue to put out good talent, we need to get these guys in the candy stripes!!

  • IU Hoosiers # 34, 1979-83

Bingo!!!!!! And then along comes Romeo!

  • straight no chaser

I think our best pitch to Kris is this: Due to global warming (I know you Trumpsters believe it’s a fiction, but a useful one for you anyway), Los Angeles, especially Westwood, will be going underwater as early as Kris’s sophomore season. Bloomington, on the other hand, will be among the last to submerge. LOL.

  • IUBizmark

Must land Wilkes. It would be a real shame if Scruggs doesn’t also come to IU to watch them play and develop together.

  • twoturntables

Meh…he does that in maybe 2 of the 20 dunks… Emotion can be a very good thing. See: Thomas Bryant.

  • GregFeltner

Please get this kid to IU. Everybody on here should be drooling over a chance to see him in candy stripes

  • ArghSonOfOhCrap

Back to the beer… Good idea I’m with you!

  • KYHoosier

Crean has never had a wing like Wilkes in his tenure. Not saying he is, but his game reminds me Kevin Durant; both can play inside and out effectively while making it look so effortlessly.

  • Justin Beard

Can’t tell me he ain’t a burger boy. He’s coming.

  • marcusgresham

I’ve been hoping for that for six years now. Man I’m going to be sad if he goes somewhere else…..and I’m going to vomit it’s Lexington.

  • Koko

I was thinking the same thing about Sheehey. Nothing wrong with a little “in your face” now and then. And really wasn’t OG’s 360 dunk an “in your face” move? Some are more animated than others.

  • Koko

If that is going to be a problem I’d still prefer to have him on our team.
We can work out the details later.

  • IU Hoosiers # 34, 1979-83

I have to give you an up on that one because I am clueless on what a burger boy is.

  • straight no chaser

    McD AA lol

  • IU Hoosiers # 34, 1979-83

Whoa! !!! I sure missed that one!!! Thanks Straight and take care.

  • I am Baby Cakes

Indiana needs a player like that. We have too many “cool” people. We need someone that is going to be on edge. Nothing wrong with it. It is part of some players games.

  • Chappy Dan

    WHERE’S THE D?!?!?
