Class of 2017 South Kent (Conn.) and Expressions Elite point guard Tremont Waters is one of the nation’s elite point guards. The Indiana recruiting target averaged 15.4 points, 5.2 assists, five rebounds and 1.4 steals per game last month in the Nike EYBL Finals at the Peach Jam.

With the help of Krossover, we recently broke down some film of Waters, who recently included Indiana in his list of seven finalists, from the Peach Jam to provide Indiana fans with a feel for his game and style of play.

You can find more Nike EYBL highlights at Krossover.

Is it the bird eye view or do those courts seem shorter? Maybe its all the other lines going through the court, but it seems like from the top of the 3 pt line to half court is very short.

i keep reading and hearing stuff about this kid, and not just on ITH. i can see where people might compare him to YF, certainly with regard to height. both lightning fast, both can shoot. whereas YF sort of adapted to more of a scorer’s mentality after his fr season (and of course he was a great scorer in hs too), this kid seems to have more of a pass first mentality. looks like he’s got great court vision. another thing, given his height, he could end up being a 3 to 4 year player like YF. i hope CTC’s makign him a priority

Wait steals? Steals in a highlight tape? I didn’t think they were allowed to show defensive highlights!

  • SCHoosier

Already plays like Yogi (without the guns):)

  • TomJameson

I noticed that too. He actually got his own rebound from a missed free throw also!

Alex, I realized that you predicted his commitment to IU. Jerry Meyer from 247sports, who’s very accurate on predictions, also shared this view. Do you have any inside information?

definitely trending in the right direction. the majority of the uconn predictions are from ’14, the ones for dook are from earlier this year.

The video is taken from a balcony so it’s a odd angle of view and yes the lines does give the illusions of a short court but it’s not.

This guy is a thief with the D. Good court visions, ball handling, passing and looking to pass and in your face shots like Yogi. Pretty quick dude. Must get.

A little off subject, just got off the 2017 recruiting board and it’s nice to see more than 1 guy over 6’9 with IU on their list.

It doesn’t show up as much in this mix as in some others, but he has a truly killer hesitation move. Because he can pull up and shoot off the dribble, defenders have no choice but to defend against it when he hesitates. The minute they reach or lean, he blows by them at Iverson speed. A slightly different version of it takes place at the 2:43 mark here. Mix tapes are what they, but he looks absolutely lethal off the dribble. Throw in great vision and passing, seemingly reliable outside shooting, and great thieving hands, and you have what looks like a fantastic PG.

I still can’t believe in previous posts people were saying they don’t want this kid because he is short.

  • Fivelefts

I really hope we get this kid! I really Love his game! He’s small like Yogi.. However, I think he has a little more flair to his game at this point, than Yogi had at the same point. IMO

  • straight no chaser

He’s being recruited by elite programs and Alex and Jerry Myer both predicted on 8/1 that he is coming to IU. So, I better get used to 5-11 and/or hope that he gains an inch or two, preferably three. When he comes to IU he’ll get one more inch “on the house”. LOL.

Haha careful not to resurrect the height debate again…it seems to never end…I will admit that I’ve been critical (especially with big physical guards like Walker and Samuels on the radar) but his quickness and tenacity is reassuring.

  • Bill Graham

Jerry’s been known to be right….but he’s also been known to switch his prediction at the last minute to maintain his accuracy rating….i.e. Bruce Brown….As for Alex…Alex is just a boss…enough said.

  • Bill Graham

    Sidenote:

Anybody else just salivating for the day they get on ITH and the first article says “Mohammed Bamba commits to IU” or “MJ Walker commits to IU,” I am on edge with all of these highly touted recruits on our radar… I just want a commitment…and soon (even though realistically it could be awhile.

  • straight no chaser

My experience is that if Alex follows a recruit closely, he is almost certainly coming to IU. I don’t know how he makes his potions, but they work. LOL.

  • Chi-Town Hoosier

He plays so smooth and has really nice court vision and is a strong distributor. Hope the predictions are right!

  • SilentBob

Okay, but let’s keep one thing clear, I’m not hating on him cause he is short lol. I’m saying, for a variety of reasons I don’t see him being one of the best recruiting fits for us this class. One of those reasons has to with his height, and I’m not seeing the speed at all. I see great deception, and skill set, but I’m not seeing the speed. At least not on a Yogi, Ulis, etc level.

Now I don’t want to become the new “fourputts” with this guy, or whatever his name was who hated constantly on Yogi. We seem to be in pretty good shape with the guy. So that’s that for now. The kid has skills no doubt
