Class of 2017 Southport and Indy Hoosiers guard Paul Scruggs took an unofficial visit to Indiana on Monday, the first of five trips he has scheduled this fall.

Scruggs has scheduled officials visits to Xavier, Michigan State, UConn and Illinois.

A four-star prospect, Scruggs is ranked the No. 31 player nationally by the 247Composite.

Indiana a finalist for Smith, Gak

Two prospects announced their list of finalists on Monday evening and Indiana remains in the mix for both.

Class of 2017 Stevenson (Ill.) wing Justin Smith and Blair Academy (N.J.) Deng Gak both included the Hoosiers in their trimmed down lists.

Smith has been on multiple visits to Bloomington and is considering a list of seven schools: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Stanford, Villanova, Wisconsin, Xavier.

He’s ranked the No. 67 prospect in the 2017 class by the 247Composite.

Gak, meanwhile, is a 6-foot-11 center who is ranked No. 77 in the class by the 247Composite. He’s down to a list of five that includes Duke, Florida, Indiana, Kansas and Miami (FL).

Thanks to you and BL for taking the time to reply. I enjoy exchanging ideas with both of you. Take care.

Yeah, I think you just agreed he’s on the edge …

Clarifying, I’m not opining on his shooting ability; just passing along what others have said that have watched him play. After watching a few grainy videos, ball may be a bit too much in the palm but it also may be nothing more that he’s a slasher and doesn’t get up enough jumpers to be consistent. If he truly has a problem there’s a chance it could get fixed at IU but no guarantees. Some players, even after improved mechanics, just don’t have the feel and rhythm to be great shooters.

100% agree regarding fit and desire; best case, we want kids that choose to play “for IU” as their first choice.

I think if we land Scruggs, we land Wilkes, and are knocking on the door with a good big. This is why Scruggs is so valuable (outside of him being a great player), he is the domino for this recruiting class.
Additionally, if Scruggs and Wilkes come to IU and have success (something like a final 4, NBA draft pick, etc.) then I truly believe this will help boost our in-state recruiting and might put us more in the hunt with Langford.
