38 minute podcast is just too long, IMO.

  • BL4IU

C’mon, another great podcast. Don’t have to listen to all 38 minutes in one sitting.

  • HardRockHoosier

I guess that just depends on your level of interest I thought it was great. Did someone have you tied up and was forcing you to listen? I it was too long, why didn’t you just shut it off?

  • ForeverIU

I see your point, but I also feel those long podcasts are a nice break from the soundbite culture. It’s the kind of listening I would do while driving or doing something else at the same time.

  • ForeverIU

He didn’t even say he listened to it all the way through. Try to see his point.

  • ArghSonOfOhCrap

If that is JBJ he looks like a monster!

  • TokyoSteve

    You forgot the purple print

  • HardRockHoosier

He didn’t say anything except it was too long. If he wants to critique it, ask him to tell us, who will listen to almost anything having to do with IU basketball, no matter the duration.. ‘What part would he like to see left out’? BTW are you his spokesman?.. And if so why doesn’t your client respond to those of us (and I was not alone in this), who felt the length was just fine??? I don’t see his point.. he said categorically it was ‘too long’.. I think it may well have been longer and still retained a lot of our collective interests, Including mine.. if it was well done,. Maybe that is his point, he didn’t feel it was done well enough to be that long.. Or as one poster has suggested, maybe he was being facetious, If he was I didn’t take it that way…

  • Depends on the content. I hope they don’t take your feedback and start cutting content to pander to shorter attention spans. I listen to entire audiobooks regularly, so a half-hour podcast is nothing. They should make these as long as they see fit to adequately cover a topic, and not arbitrarily cutting them at a certain time, like they used to do with music – everything had to be 2.5 minutes no matter what. Bob Dylan said no and I agree.

If I’m going to take the time to download something and them move it to a device, and then later have to delete, it should be worth the effort. 2 minute blurbs are a waste of time, a little of nothing for people half-distracted by 37 other things to actually listen anyway.

  • exactly.

  • and currently under the radar. That monster is going to surprise a lot of folks next season.

  • sarge

I said the exact same thing when I saw the photo above. I can’t wait for winter to get here.

  • HardRockHoosier

It was a great podcast.. .

  • sarge

I guessed Alan at the beginning of the episode! I also remember where I was when he got injured. I was so depressed by it that my mom drove me to Bloomington after we lost in the tournament to try and meet up with the team. My mom and I walked Alan and his mother out to their car. I carried his bags for him. It was one of the best moments I had as a kid. It was unreal to get to talk to him and it solidified him as my favorite player at the time. It was tough to see him on crutches too.

  • sarge

Yeah? Well you know, that’s just like, your opinion man.

  • jimmygoiu

I would not have left anything out. I would take the related subjects and break them into say 3, 12 minute podcasts. I guess it depends on the person, what you are doing at the time. It is a better 38 minute listen if you are driving as compared to getting an IU fix at lunch. My attention span does vary though.

  • HardRockHoosier

Wow sarge, what a fond memory.. To be cherished for sure..

  • HardRockHoosier

Ok,, I guess you have a point, for some. Me, I wasn’t disappointed by the longer length of it. I enjoyed it.

  • HuntinHoosier86

I’m with you, Clyde. I usually listen to them on the way home from or to work. Also sometimes when I’m mowing. Regardless, I’d like them to be 3 freakin’ hours long if the content is good and insightful! I can’t get enough IUBB!!

  • HuntinHoosier86

    Winter is coming…..

I only had time to listen to the first 10 minutes of this on the way to work this morning, but they were talking about how awesome that OG is gonna be this season. I’m really hoping he’s able to perform even better than he did last season. My concern is that teams will definitely have him as more of a priority on their scouting reports this year. Hopefully, TC and the rest of the crew will have him prepared for his larger role.

  • Bill Graham

Should read, “Brace yourselves…Football is coming”

    Olay to the Matador Defense!

  • HuntinHoosier86

LOL! PLEASE NO MORE SWISS CHEESE DEFENSE! Almost gave me a stroke every game last year.

  • Bill Graham

I disagree depending on the content; however, it might be nice for the ITH staff to write a article highlighting some points of emphasis from the podcasts. I’m thinking mailbag style: with a couple quotes on the main topics and maybe some added insight from the ITH staff. Overall, I enjoy the podcasts though.

  • Bill Graham

“Indiana is going to need someone who can create their own shot, because last year that was Yogi and Troy.” Great point and that’s why I think James is our MVP next year. Don’t get me wrong TB is immensely valuable but he’s not the type of guy we want handling it at the top of the key with 10 seconds left.

I agree with RB’s take on Wisky being top of the league (although we aren’t far behind) They return all 5 starters and have a good incoming 6-7 wing in Aleem Ford.

Good points on recruiting. As much as I like instate kids you have to throw a wide net and just see what stays and what gets away. I like RB’s point about us losing a lot of good recruits last year. There were heavy Bruce Brown and Alkins discussions. The year before that there were heavy Goodluck and Richardson discussions but we missed out on those kids…for me the important thing is to just get one elite kid and get one early (by elite I mean top 25 caliber). Get a Porter or a Bamba or a Wilkes. Those guys act like a centerpiece to boost recruiting. It’s a lot more appealing to say “Hey you wanna come play at IU with Michael Porter?” versus “Hey you wanna come play basketball at IU with Luka Garza?”

Lastly, all points on O.G. are spot on…I’d caution Hoosier Nation though. Don’t expect O.G. to come out and be Oladipo. Sure there are similarities with explosive athleticism and defensive skills. But Oladipo was a guard who was very good at driving and creating his own shot….but even RB admitted that O.G. needs work on creating his own shot…now with that said O.G. certainly possesses some front court skills that Dipo didn’t…But don’t be surprised if O.G. gets locked down occasionally. His best work is as a rebounder/slasher not a dribble drive guy.

  • ArghSonOfOhCrap

I know muscle don’t necessarily translate to good basketball… But my gosh he looks like a defensive end! Mark my words IUBB fan this kid will be a legit monster. Think about it he was always legit on the boards. He will be a 6′ 4″ beast on the boards an elite shooter and step up his game on defense. You head it… JBJ will make me brag all year!

  • ArghSonOfOhCrap

    Definitely Clyde!

  • Hoosier89

His mom is the nicest lady.
