    15-3 in the big ten

  • IUBizmark

    7-0 start should be expected.

  • VanBurenBoys

Only one Purdue game. B10 needs to ensure two games each year for rivalries.

    Maryland- win

15-3 isn’t bad and could put us into a spot where beating Maryland at the end could give us the B1G title. Favorable schedule. Don’t have to play PU, UM, MSU or Maryland twice.

15-3 is a pretty ridiculous expectation for this season. The Final Four Michigan State team last year lost 6 conference games. In 2013 when we we’re ranked #1 most of the season we still lost 4 B1G games. It is really, really hard to win on the road in the B1G and the conference is strong this year. I will be thrilled if we go 12-6 or better.

  • IMSKRONG

The conference was much stronger in 12-13 than it will be this year. It was much much stronger. Indiana, Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan State. Even Minnesota and Illinois spent time in the Top 10 nationally.

I just see a lot of teams that lost big pieces to their team last year and haven’t replaced. Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan St, Purdue and Maryland are right there but we have the potential to rack up wins against a soft big ten schedule. Ohio State has a lot of young players that can contribute this year but will they gel. Wisconsin is Wisconsin (i think we will win at Wisconsin this year). Michigan State also lost a lot of production but gained a MAA in Davis. Purdue will push us around, we will have to out run them (one of our Ls in my opinion). Maryland is loaded (another L)! If our defense improves and we are as good or better on offense than last year we have a good chance at sharing the Big Ten Title. We play the projected top half of the Big Ten teams only once. With the exception of Wisconsin, whom of those five listed I am the least worried about. We will come into the Big Ten after playing Duke, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt and hopefully Kansas. They should prepare us well.

I agree that it was stronger that year, but we don’t really know how good the conference is until the season plays out. The B1G was “weak” last year and had two teams in the Final Four. Looking better in rankings and on paper goes out the door when you walk into a hostile road environment, especially if you have a target on your back. Just ask all the top ranked teams we’ve beaten in Assembly Hall over the past few years.

  • IMSKRONG

Well yea. We could lose 10 games in conference. Hard to say.

  • Zach

Favorable schedule but 15-3 just isn’t going to happen realistically. I could see anywhere between the 11-7 and 13-5 range being most likely. I’d be happy with 12 or more.

  • Meadows007

We’ll most likely be underdogs at Michigan and at Illinois, so those are possible losses too. And Maryland at home to close out the season would be an amazing win, but anything could happen in that game. I’ll predict closer to 13-5

  • kaponya44

To address two posts – One saying 15-3 is ridiculous and one saying it is unrealistic : How is it (15-3) ridiculous and not going to happen realistically ? Maybe 15-3 is ceiling level as predictions go,but only 2 more wins than the roughly 13-5 we see as very likely.

To say we got the best B1G schedule is a huge understatement…
Realistic is in fact calling every game winnable with some match ups more suitable…..Maryland & Purdue appear to be the most daunting challenges among B1G teams on paper, and we get both at home which is better than only playing away…Not that we will win them ..I see people get taken out of context by some posters ..The proper context for my opinion is what is realistic and not what I would predict with confidence.

One game each against PU, UM, MSU ,OSU and Maryland is close to ideal for this year…Most of them play each other twice…We don’t even go to Northwestern who could have their best team ever… It is more absurd to write any of our B1G games off than to call them possible wins..
