North Central forward Kris Wilkes and Southport guard Paul Scruggs are two of Indiana’s top priorities in the class of 2017.

Both players put together strong springs for the Indy Hoosiers on the Under Armour Association circuit as Wilkes averaged 13 points and 5.2 rebounds per game and Scruggs averaged 9.8 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.

Courtesy of Courtside Films, here are highlight reels for both players from their play this spring:

Both look like solid, skilled players. Neither looks like one- or two- and done. Hope to get them both.

While both are still young, you can see that both have frames conducive to putting on muscle. Scruggs in particular has a set of shoulders on him that look like they could eventually be found on a guy who is ripped. Good luck stopping him through the lane if he actually gets strong.
I know they aren’t a package deal but I really hope they lean on one another to come to IU.

Hi Arch, good to hear from you. 🙂

I agree. We need a couple/few one or two-and dones, but we need kids like this too. The skilled 3 and 4 year players that help keep the program on an even keel.

By the time these guys play for us, IU might be wearing UA too. Maybe that’ll help if they haven’t committed by then.

I’m not sure if I can agree that both will be at college 3 year or more. Especially if Paul can learn the PG spot which I believe is a goal of his his final two years of high school. While neither are elite athletes like a Russell Westbrook or Andrew Wiggins they both look respectable in that area. You can become a better athlete and both have projectable frames and length. If they are solid defensive players that’ll raise their stock substantially. The market for solid, skilled, two way players in the NBA grows every year and they still have two years before they even arrive on a college campus.

Kyle Taber was hired as an assistant at Southport, so that has to help IU with Scruggs (and Brunk).

Maybe I’m the only one…and I’m overly obsessed with recruiting…but its kinda hard to get into the 2017 stuff because so much can happen between now and then. I love signing players early and its fun to see the recruiting progress but ever since…hate to mention it… the ultimate betrayal of a heralded one time commit… I kind of take everything other than senior interest with a grain of salt. Just another way coach sleezbag and his financial backers (I mean assistants and supporters) have ruined college basketball for me.
