Austin Etherington transferring to Butler

  • 04/18/2014 4:55 pm in

Former Indiana wing Austin Etherington will finish his collegiate career at Butler, he announced today on his Twitter account.

Etherington averaged 2.0 points and 1.6 rebounds for the Hoosiers last season and chose the Bulldogs over Missouri State. His father, Bret, played at Butler from 1987-91.

The Hamilton Heights product originally came to Indiana in the 2011 class with Cody Zeller and Remy Abell.

He received a medical redshirt for the 2012-2013 season after suffering a broken left kneecap, which means he’ll have two years of eligibility remaining. Etherington plans to graduate in May and is expected to be eligible next season.

Indiana and Butler play next season on Dec. 20 in the Crossroads Classic at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

Butler? No way! Called this one.

What if Austin scores 20 points on us next year…? That would be classic back fire on Crean.

I think Butler is a nice fit for AE. I hope he has great success there (except, of course, when Butler plays Indiana). I’m glad he stayed in Indiana and I think it’s great he’ll get to play where his dad played.

  • FinEndNow

Thats probably exactly what will happen.

  • FinEndNow

he’s graduating right? So he’ll get to play right away. But will he have one or two years of eligibility left?

  • SCHoosier

    Good choice..hope its a good fit. AE..catch ball..shoot ball…often.

  • hoosier1158

He won’t have to play power forward at Butler.

  • Two.

  • William Hagenmaier

Good fit for him and good luck austin

  • FinEndNow

    Ok. Thanks Alex.

  • Kyl470

He will probably do it and it will be his only 20+ point game in his career.

If AE scores twenty, I’d say we win by twenty.

  • Ole Man

Great fit for a good young man.

  • HoosierGrampy

    or part-time point guard.

  • Hoosier Hall

I hope he does (as long as we still win). Austin is a great kid and I wish him the best.

  • I’m with you HH on this one. I think it’s highly unlikely that he’ll score twenty on us, but if he does, I would not be upset at all, as long as we win. As was pointed put above, he would not have seen significant minutes with us, and I like him. I think he is a good kid and wish him nothing but success. I’m thinking both teams are better off for this move.

Kellen dunham is the 2. Rose jones is the 3. Unless they try to use jones as a point forward (which they could) that leaves austin wedged in at the 1 or 4. Or coming off the bench.

  • PDXHoosier

not surprising. Good luck to him

I think austin will be just fine. something here just didnt seem right with him. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a decent game against us.

I don’t know if this is a good fit for AE. Players are jumping ship from Butler. They have four players transferring themselves.

  • sd chuck

good for AE, he committed to IU when it wasn’t the thing for Indiana kids to do, he got the ball rolling, wish him only the best, for whatever reason he couldn’t make the most of his minutes last year, hope everyone from IU cheers for him always, GOOD LUCK!

  • SCHoosier

“If only” was the key phrase there .

  • SCHoosier

As long as IU wins..who cares how many he scores?

  • CreanFaithful

It’s a ridiculous post in attempt to stir the pot… but in his defense, Mo Creek led GW in scoring this year.

I thought Austin was a decent player…sad to see him go. Being a Bulldog fan as well, it will be interesting to see him play (especially against IU in the Crossroads Classic). Interesting that he will be eligible to play next season.
