Check out four renderings from IU’s plans for a renovated Assembly Hall in the embedded photo gallery after the jump, courtesy of IU Athletics.

    Waay too bright inside.

The Eli Lily, Cook, Nicks, Kilroys, John Cougar Hunter Mellancamp, Pizza Express Hall is going to be just awesome.

Am I seeing these pictures correctly? It appears they are going to drastically alter the seating bowl (sides in particular). Is that right?

  • rbhagwat

I hope it’s just the picture, but it looks like there are maybe less seats after the renovations? Other than that I really like the new look.

  • mckillio

It does look like there are fewer but the press release said they would have the same number.

  • Katie M.

I think it’s just an initial rendering. Glass specifically said that they were not going to be getting rid of seating (new video board is supposed to improve sight lines for the balcony even).

i personally think we should name it Detroit Assembly Hall because all the coolest IU students come from michigan. At least the ones who throw down the hardest.

I greatly appreciate the donation and understand the nostalgia surrounding AH, I just think its somewhat short sited to not plan for a new building. Bloomington has always been a place you cant get to from here and I 69 is gonna change that. Bloomington is gonna boom in the next 10-15 years. IU is THE basketball school in THE basketball state. A 20000+ state of the art facility would huge for the bb program and the Btown region.I just think its a missed opportunity for growth for the university. Since IU has funds to upgrade not replace AH can we please put some effort and money into improving the football program, please?

    Don’t forget Mark Cuban

Soooo, where are they moving the 5 title banners in order to make room for those box suites? Are they getting clumped together on the north end with the B1G banners? Surely they wont get hung out-of-sight from the rafters.

  • HumbleHoosier

Hopefully they do move them up. More symbolic of a goal to reach the very top rather than to look up and admire something that hasn’t been won in 27 years and something that there hasn’t been a chance to win in 12 years. I’m a true Hoosier fan, but the constant worry and talk about what used to be is getting to be too much. I’d rather the team be good now so that there could be aspirations for a 6th banner. The banners will be there, but for them to be a focus of an arena is just too much.

  • HumbleHoosier

100% fine with this. Extremely generous of the Simons to donate 40 million dollars. Great day to be a Hoosier.

  • Rie

We have a football team? I was wondering where all those people were going during tailgates…

  • HoosierPat

    Should’ve named it “Tijan’s Temple”.

  • HoosierPat

I’m okay with this because Assembly Hall is keeping its traditional look for the most part, but still being improved. My only concern is about the scoreboard. I don’t want to see a Banker’s Life sized scoreboard in AH.

  • Alford Bailey

Well, I know there is a stadium. I’ve seen it.

  • IUDan

I think that might be the idea – even at IU football drives the revenue train

  • Kevin Tolliver

Refurbishments of Assembly Hall will focus on improving amenities to enhance the fan experience while preserving the current seat configuration and seating capacity

  • IUeconAlum

I hope the noise advantage doesn’t go away with these modifications. It will be like going from the RCA to Lucas Oil. Lots of pros, but that seashell sound when everybody is going mad is priceless.

  • Duggan

Where are the banners? They’ll need to be moved since the suites will be installed…..ugh…..

  • gerald

I heard they are just going to hide them in a closet…Not. Don’t you think they will find a way to keep honoring those championships and keep the banners visible? Use some common sense.
