HOT DAMN!!! I’m amazed when someone like Vic or Devin can handle the rock that way, watching someone like Yogi you expect it somewhat, watching a 6’6″ “banger” do that stuff is almost like watching a magic trick. Man, a 6’6″ guy which his length and thickness playing guard, wow. By the time he’s a senior he’ll have Illinois fans saying, “damn, seems like Davis has been around for a decade, can’t wait until he’s in the NBA”.
DD and JH are going to go at it in practice. Having those guys going head to head is going to be awesome for both of them when it comes to development.
I think Devin could emerge into a Draymond Green type of player for us. Similar bodies, although I think Devin is more athletic and looks quicker with the ball (at least in these videos). When Draymond first came into the B1G, he didn’t have a strong outside shot and worked to develop that along with a solid mid-range game. I would be thrilled if DD emerged as a similar player and frankly think he has more natural talent, ability, and athleticism. Excited to watch him develop over the coming years.
I have made that comparison for the past few years. Devin Davis is coming in with a frame that can only get thicker, whereas Dray came in with many pounds to lose.
Yogi’d better watch out
Encouraging to see him working on his ball handling & outside jumper skills like he is. Improvement on those two things are what is going to help him just about as much as anything when it comes to seeing the floor.
Maybe it’s just me or maybe it’s the camera angle but at about the 2:45 mark it looks almost like the clip is almost on fast forward during the drill where he runs out against resistance and gets the small balls.
Davis is no point guard, as good as his handles seem to be for a player with his build and at his age.
I think Mr. Davis..with his work ethic, athletic ability and desire is the proverbial “diamond in the rough.” I do believe TC has “found another one.” Cook Hall is gonna be a tough place to play this summer! Love it!
Rankings need not apply with this guy
Yeah pretty sure that comment was made tongue-in-cheek.
I literally had to watch it twice to make sure I understood what I was seeing. It’s kind of stunning. I have seen him play and had him figured as a great athlete and a B1G defender from day one, but never saw anything like this coming. If it is in any way indicative of what he can bring to a real game, it could truly impact our season. I am PUMPED.
Glad to see all of these good comments. I also had to view this thing several times. Almost couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I had no idea Devin would have that kind of ball handling skills. I think Crean has made a great decision to have him working out with EG Sr. He must be thinking of his future more as a 2 guard,,, With that size, that would be amazing. Gosh makes ya so excited for this season to get here. Can’t wait. Wow, I am so glad we have Devin. I think he has a great future here. Shows you how ratings do not always mean everything.
I agree, I really did not expect that sort of ability handling the ball for Devin at this point. If it does translate, the wings for Indiana will be immensely loaded.
I think almost all the dribbling is sped up… a little gimickry for marketing purposes. I still like his game. Watch the movement of Eric walking, hand motions. It’s definitely sped up. The drills are still the right drills. He isn’t handling the ball as well as well as we think though.
I’m now pumped to watch this young man fight for minutes. I’m loving the mentality of this class as they are all coming in hungry to win and compete.
I have a strong feeling that D^2 is gonna surprise everyone next year!! I’m callin’ it right now, he’s our next Victor Oladipo in terms of work ethic, improvement and potential.
really impressive ball handling drills. exactly what he needs to get better at. Lets all remember though this doesnt translate to game situations right away. He has to become comfortable with the ball with guys in front of him. I have no doubts Remy can do these drills too and he tends to still turn his back when he brought up the ball
Reminds me of Andre Iguodala.
This video is really dumb. All of the ball handling clips are so obviously in fast-forward. His skills are impressive, but those are really stupid tactics.
