Classy kid..but if he thinks driving in LA is tough wait until he tries to drive down the lane in the NBA!:) When I hear Cody talk about “I’m not concerned about my ability to shot outside”..I want to cry!:)

  • IUMIKE1

I’m as big a Crean supporter as they come, but I’m also someone that will forever be in the, you can’t make me believe that him taking, and hitting, the mid range to college 3 wouldn’t have made us a better team, camp. I don’t care how many good outside shooters a team has having a 7 footer that can step out and hit the mid range to college 3 has it time & place.

  • Kenneth234

All fine and dandy, however, if the shot is off, who was going to be getting the board with any consistency if he does miss? Kirk Haston at least had Jarrod Jefferies to gobble up his misses. Christian Watford was just not the guy who is going to give confidence to a coach to say to his big man to look for perimeter shots more often than getting to the rim.

  • IUMIKE1

If Cody was shooting mid range jumpers his man, usually the other teams best big and one of their best rebounders, if not best rebounder, is pulled away from the basket changing the whole rebounding scenario. Their were numerous instances of where if he had been taking a mid range jumper, and just hitting a decent percentage, it would have given us a whole different look. It would have given us another option in those games where the other team only played him to try & do the up and under or short drive to the rim and where he struggled to get things going doing those things only, cause there were games like that last year. Also if the person guarding him has to come out and guard him close enough to stop the outside jumper, putting it on the floor and driving to the basket suddenly becomes a whole lot easier, especially with as quick as he is, how good of a passer he is and how well he handled the ball for a big. Then there is always the possibility of him kicking it back out for an open 3 if the D collapses to stop the drive leaving him in good position to grab the offensive rebound.

    Oh, wrong profiling.

    So happy for him.

Dude, that’s your opinion and what I replied to was simply Kenneth234’s opinion. You are more than entitled to your opinion and that’s all the comment of mine above is,… my opinion. It’s not like I was calling him out or saying he was stupid or knew nothing about bball for seeing it the way that he does. Chill

  • skotchie

Yep, everyone has an opinion. The reason we can’t go back and say, “well if Cody used the mid-range jumper more often” is because his job was to bang the boards. He was the only option especially against the better teams. Christian could not be relied upon to bang with players of his size and equal ability because he didn’t want too. Sure he’d have a great rebound night against a 6’6″ PF because he’d be more confident in that situation.
I used to get so upset at DJ White shooting jumpers and leaving the dirty work to 6’10” Ben Allen 1.5 RPG “07” he didn’t want o do it either. The job fell to 6’4″ Roderick Wilmont 5.8 RPG “07”. “08” Stemler 3.0, Jordan Crawford 3.4, and Eric Gordon 3.3 RPG. DJ wanted shoot mid-range to showcase himself for the NBA scouts when it was his job to bang under the boards, “07” 7.3 and “08” 10.3 RPG.
Now had Cody stayed this year and has Noah & Luke to work with then I would say yes step out and add versitility to the offence, which by the way I do expect Noah & Luke to do just that taking advantage of each others range of skills and abilities.
Sorry if I rubbed you the wrong way.
