They already drlled Dominican in Milwaukee earlier this season. I don’t think there’ much of a match for that team and/or Luke. He will be one of the most underrated freshman in the Class of 2013 when we get mid-way through the season. He’s a big steal from Bo Ryan-land!

  • http://www.facebook.com/dmcdonal Dee McDonald

No Sheehey? OUCH….I think you left him out.

  • Hoosier89

I’m surprised how many people don’t have Will starting. As a senior and our best returning shooter, I can’t see a way he doesn’t.

  • HoosierTrav

If Victor is projected as a lottery guy or even top 15 he has to go. He wont have that opportunity next year.

  • http://www.facebook.com/brad.norrington Brad Norrington

He is not as quick to guard a player off the dribble, especially a smaller player, which is what he generally plays against given his shooting ability from the outside. His rebounding has stepped up even better lately, but he is not great at on ball defense. I don’t think he ever has been. Of course the coaches aren’t going to say he isn’t as good a defender, 1st because he is a senior and 2nd because that wouldn’t be very tactful. I have watched every game and my opinon hasn’t changed. He is currently tied for third in blocks with Hollowell who plays less than 10 minutes a game and he is last out of the starting six in steals. These numbers do not complete his defensive stats, I wish I had his deflections, but they do tell some what of a story about his defensive intensity and abilities. Saying that his offensive abilities cannot be overstated enough. He is an invaluable asset to the team and when he is scoring IU is the best in the country bar none. Im not knocking him just saying that next year the athleticism will increase on the team.

  • http://www.facebook.com/brad.norrington Brad Norrington

Third?!?!? lol are you serious. Thats an insult to Sheehey and maybe even Hollowell with the way he has played on defense lately.

  • CreamandCrimson

Sheehey is a good defender, no doubt about that. If I put Watford 3rd and Sheehey 4th or reverse the two, I don’t think I’m really insulting anyone. Hollowell has played good defense recently as well but I think calling him a better defender than a proven guy like Watford is a mistake.

The main thing I am disputing is your statement that “Watford is a defensive liability”. That’s just not even close to true. You say you aren’t “knocking him”…I think calling him a defensive liability would be doing just that.

  • SCHoosier

Yes and there’s a 6-10 WIS high school kid (Diamond) that TC is tracking..Bo won’t let this one go without an effort.

  • The_Real_Assembly_Hall

I know, I know…. sigh. If they did stay though…..I believe next year could be one of those dynasty-esque teams, and be quite a bit more athletic. But Victor leaving would probably be very relative to the shallow draft this year.

I think Luke would benefit tremendously with a year (or two) playing with Cody. Just sayin’

  • http://www.facebook.com/brad.norrington Brad Norrington

I really don’t think Hollowell is a better defender overall. He has played better defense lately then Watford. Have somewhat of a sense of humor though, I really dont think that you are insulting him Im just making a comparison. It just seems to me that watching games that Watford is slower in transition and getting back. In the post Watford is probably 2nd best on the team, but in the wings I’d rather have Sheehey guarding the ball rather than Watford. That is where the defensive liability comes into play. I think that Sheehey has better hands, quicker feet, and higher vertical.

Sheehey is better on the wings? I would agree with you. Sheehey is quicker and he does have a higher vertical. I would expect for him to be a better perimeter defender than Watford though based on their size and the positions they are asked to play on this team.

I just don’t think our 2nd best post defender is a defensive liability but if you are only referring to his perimeter defense (which discounts his value as a post defender), then I see your point. I think we can agree, Watford has tremendous value for this team when you consider his entire game on offense and defense.

  • http://www.facebook.com/brad.norrington Brad Norrington

Yes exactly. Thats what I meant when I was referring to next years team and my expectation of improvement in athleticism. I really wish he wasn’t our 2nd best… I wish HMP would develop faster, because the potential for him is through the roof. He lacks confidence mostly. But yes, when I was talking about Watford being a liability I meant on the perimeter where a player needs to be a little quicker and athletic to guard a position. That is where IU will pick up next year…..hopefully.

  • HoosierGym44

I think Etherington and Hartman are getting overlooked. Not saying either will start but we are losing Watford and Jordy. We’ll definitely need guys to step up who can knock down 3′s on a consistent basis.

  • WisconHoosier

I don’t see Diamond coming to Madison. No direct inside scoop, just some low-level rumblings around here.
    - WisconHoosier, vacationing on an island in Florida. 80 degrees here this week; snow in Madison.

  • Sarasota Hoosier

Ron Patterson had 14 in matchup against Vonleh and New Hampton. Evidentally, Vonleh did not play well along with the rest of New Hampton in a 83-42 loss.

  • CB

Cody might stay. It is not out of the realm of possibility.I didn’t think he was ready at the beginning of he season, but I do now. His brothers stayed all four years, he might stay another. They are not hurting for the money and I think he knows he will never get his college years back once he goes pro. If he stays though, I have no idea what they are going to do about scholly numbers.

  • shknqk

Start with those who’ve been battle tested.

    Yogi
    Remy
    Sheehey
    Hollowell
    Hanner

Now, who gets jumped by a freshman?
    Luke jumps hanner.
    Noah jumps hollowell
    Hollowell becomes the new Sheehey.

    Bench
    Stan
    Williams
    Hollowell

  • shknqk

    Oops…
Hanner and etherington round it out.

Hartman prep school. Jurkin? Devin replaces etherington in rotation by end of year.

  • HoosierCruz

yeah, my picks exactly… although I don’t think Williams would be in the starting mix

  • HoosierCruz

Blackmon won’t be on the team until 2014… but even with our crazy talented 2013 recruiting class, I am still most excited about JBIII!!!

  • TorontoHoosierFan

Anyone else worried about Vonleh’s lack of scoring? Figure a top 10 recruit would be scoring much more than I’m seeing. I can’t recall the last team he went for over 20 points. Am I missing something?

  • BornHoosier85

Of course we all want VO and Cody to come back next year, but if they dont I think our rotation looks something like this

    PG) Yogi
    SG) Remy
    SF) Sheehey
    PF) Hollowell
    C) Vonleh

2nd unit Robinson, Hartman, Williams, Perea, Fischer… DD and Jurkin round out the bench

Even though Noah is more of a 4 then 5 there have been several great college teams that have a 6’9 player starting at center.. Also, he is still growing so by time he walks on campus next year he might be a legit 6’10. I would like to say start Sheehey at SG like everybody else but personally I think having to play him at that position would really hurt our offense because he just isnt a great dribbler or passer. He is a natural 3 and him having to play the 2 really takes him out of his comfort zone. If Remy were to start at SG, I think Stan Robinson looks like he could be a very capable backup Point. He looks like a combo guard just like Remy. I think Hollowell will look like a completely different player next year. It is easy to be a highly touted freshman on a bad or average team, but it takes a special type of person to be a real contributor on a championship level team as a freshman. Hopefully, the same can be said for Hanner and PJ but who knows.. IF Vic and Cody leave we are going to be a really, really young team and we will need Yogi, Will, Remy, and Jeremy to really take control of the team and show the young guys how to win at a high level. This is our year to make it happen we could potentially be without our top 4 guys next year. Go Hoosiers

  • iumick22

Luke Fische has moved into the top 50 on espn, robinson drops into the 90′s but we now have four in top 100.

  • iumick22

Oops Fischer in top 70 now 67th. We now have four recruits in top 100.
