Saw something that said Blackmon is rated in the 60s by one of the major services . . . how is that possible? Is the competition he’s playing against that bad?

  • http://twitter.com/LaBeckYES Lance Becker

I think thats actually an improvement on his old ranking – he will continue to rise.

  • IUfanPurduePhD

It’s just a hunch, but something tells me that Planet Athlete Academy may not have the most rigorous academics.

  • Hoosierfan2335

Geez only 32 and 24 in two games for blackmon? what an off weekend.

  • Evansville Hoosier

That is an improvement in his Scouts ranking, he was outside the top 100 before I believe

  • WhatsUpKnight

probably his injury last year had something to do with his ranking

As we’ve learned, recruit rankings aren’t an all-knowing talent indicator.

“Putting the athlete in front of the academics”

  • Aceman_Mujezinovic_07

The Fort Wayne area gets severely overlooked. Everyone looks at Indy and the Region but underrates the level of competition in the FW area. Deshaun Thomas seems to be just fine in college and he’s from the FW area.

  • IUfanPurduePhD

“Planet Athlete Academy: putting the athlete ahead of the academics since 1974.”

“Planet Athlete Academy. Books are for pansies.”

“Planet Athlete Academy: because sports are more funner than reading.”

(I’m sure some administrator will come across this at some point after Googling their own institution, and I’m sorry if your school is actually a school and not an athlete factory.)

  • IUfanPurduePhD

On the football signing day last week, I remember seeing a report that claimed that more than 40% of the recruits ranked in the top 200 (or 300?) were busts. I know Alex recently retweeted the three out of the top five players in the ESPN POY straw poll were either outside the top 100 (Burke, Oladipo) or unranked (McDermott).

It’s tough because on one hand we want our kids to get ranked higher (JBJ, Fischer, Hartman, DD), but then we also celebrate like crazy when we land top-ranked kids (Vonleh, Williams).

It’s an athlete PLANET, not factory. Duh.

  • IUfanPurduePhD

Is that the one from Space Jam?

  • Geoff_85

Lol, their team is probably comprised of the “Monstars” from that movie. They play some rough bball.

  • Disco_Briscoe

Who is better now and who has more upside…Hartman or Davis? Why?

  • SCHoosier

I think both are role players..Davis for D..boards and hustle…Hartman for spot shooting and boards.

  • shknqk

If a spot shooter at 6′ 6″, how do you not get your shot at will and average above 15 per game?

  • omegaman

Are Fischer’s opponents always that inferior??…or is he on some kind of elite team. His team’s scores are always lopsided like that….anyone from Wisc. That can explain…and is his skill level such, where he’s ready to contribute next year??

  • WhatsUpKnight

i haven’t seen much video of either, but i hear davis has lots of athleticism and plays hard, and we know what CTC can do with those types of players after a couple years. so i’d give the upside nod to him.

not sure that davis isn’t better now too, but one could make the argument that hartman could have a greater immediate impact due to his shooting ability?

Blackmon is a top 15 player in the 2014 class easily. Rankings are a joke most of the time. Did anyone see Trey Lyles narrowed his schools down to 6 and IU was not one of them? CTC and crew did a good job recruiting him, to bad that his dad is a dbag and started demanding things to keep his kid. To bad for Trey but don’t want people like that around the program.

  • HoosierPat

Okay 32 points is a down night. It happens. But only 24 points?!? C’mon James, pick it up!

  • A TRAIN

in this day n age how come we cant get vonleh stats…blackmons numbers will prolly start goin down they added a kid who i think can play he had 25 in his 1st game so james shots will prolly go down…hes still my favorite committed kid..stan seems to b a little like jamarcus ellis except for the drug dealing, he can score a little rebound and pass im excited about him..thanks alex lov recruiting roundup

  • guidochef

i believe they are ranked atleast in the top 25 nationally

  • InTheMtns

This thread is a riot; you guys are funny. Especially enjoyed the “putting athlete ahead of the academics since 1974.”

I don”t think they are much different than Findlay Prep, though. Findlay Prep is a basketball team period. They don’t even pretend to be a high school or prep school – they send the players across the street to Henderson International School to take classes. Henderson International is a fully-accredited private school and the players have to make grades and SAT scores to get onto college teams, so I guess it’s all above board and OK; but, still . . . Just saying.

I wonder if the three guys that committed early, Hartman, Davis and Fischer ever think about what their roles will be as next season begins. Do you think, if they had known that IU would add 3 Top 100 recruits, they might have thought twice about signing on?
Any thoughts on that from anybody?

  • http://www.facebook.com/jose.delgado.1800 Jose Delgado

haha for anyone else it would still be a great night but for James he scored half of what he usually does

  • Kenneth234

Any word on how Jaquan Lyle’s visit to Columbus to watch Indiana beat up on the Buckeyes went? Surely, seeing IU play one of their best games of the season in a tough environment was helpful to CTC recruitment of him..you think?

  • HoosierCruz

that’s the second school (PU) that has helped us recruit that JL by scheduling visits with games against IU!!

  • HoosierCruz

In Crean’s scouting eye, I trust… although it does seem lately that he is also getting obsessed with recruiting top-ranked players.

  • Eastwood88_2

Seen them both in person. Hands down it’s davis. Wide body with some serious size in the legs. Wish he was 3 inches taller, but can hit from 17 feet in. Athletic is not something I would call him, more of a grinder.

  • http://twitter.com/IUinNap Caleb Moore

Maybe Top 30. He’s a little short and he’s coming off of injury. If he was 6’6″ he’d be top 10 IMO. He’s the go-to guy on his team and takes a load of shots as well, but no doubt he’ll be a great fit in Crean’s up tempo style. I just want to see him stay healthy and stick in the top 50 at worst. Did anyone see Dakich’s tweet on Lyles cutting his list to 6? Something to the effect of “it was nice for Lyles to put 5 other schools on his list with UK”. I’d be surprised if he doesnt ultimately end up at UK.

  • ScoopGeoff

He plays on a very good team. He isn’t their only size… The pg is very good… Not sure how many scholarship players they have, but from the highlights they look like they put 5 college players on the floor most of the time.

His team is 3-1 in the last couple weeks. He has been putting up double-doubles, but not huge scoring totals…. Games like 11 & 14, 13 & 11, etc, etc.

If you ever need a Vonleh update just give me a holla.
