2014 IU commit James Blackmon Jr. scored 42 points and grabbed 10 rebounds on Saturday night as Ft. Wayne Luers beat East Chicago Central 79-76 at Indianapolis Tech.

Inside the Hall was in attendance and we’ve compiled over three minutes of video of Blackmon in the embedded media player below:

Highlights of Hyron Edwards (2015) and Vijay Blackmon (2016) as well as video interviews with both Blackmon’s are available in the forum.

He’s got a smooth stroke and a quick release; he’s good with the ball and adjusts well at the rim; basically this looked liked a bunch of little kids he just abused all night. JBj is just a pure bred scorer, plain and simple. He’ll score wherever he is. What will make the difference for him in trying to replace Jordy (which he says Crean told him he’ll need him to do) is can he be completely automatic out there, and can he hold his own on D. It’ll be great to see him in candy stripes.

Good Lord….I can’t wait for JB Jr. to get here….awesome individual

This kid will make Victor like strides in his game. He will get stronger and more explosive. Like E-Ville Hoosier stated, “pure bred scorer!” He’s gonna score a lot of points as a Hoosier. I’d love to get Hyron Edwards to join the following season. That kid will be one of the best point guards in the nation. He reminds me of Kasey Hill.

He is fantastic, his brother will be very good, and the rest of his team is absolute garbage.

  • PDXHoosier

On some shots he pulls his hand back rather than having a good follow through. easily corrected, though. and it is obviously working for him either way. kid is good.

Yes! I’ve been waiting to see some video of this guy…

  • Blackmon Jr. is such an insane scorer that his regular game film probably looks like this highlight reel.

  • ScoopGeoff

His shot and posture when dribbling remind me a LOT of EJ…

Why does Hyron Edwards team suck so bad on defense? Hey let’s help off the guy who’s dropping 40 on us… I think I’ll back up a bit here, I mean he’s only knocked down 7 3’s already…

    Kid is smooth though.

  • Jam52

He actually missed two shots! He is going to be good!

Looks a lot like Jay Edwards… Smooth as he looks its like he’s always sandbagging. I mean, even his half court set dunk looked like it was a lackadaisical mess around dunk on a nine foot rim.

As good as jordy is… I don’t think it will be a fair comparison. Might not happen his freshman year, but I think after what could be a glaring weakness next year – he will shore the three ball up immediately

Combo guard… Jordys three, wills pull-up 15′ and victors rim attack. 2 of 3 he will be better than. No one wrecks a rim like Vic!

Yes Jay Edwards is the best comparison I think. Just so naturally smooth and the way his shots never hit the rim and just softly fall through the net. What a touch. I seen Edwards several times in high school when I was a kid and their shots look alot alike. Cant wait to see JB in B-town.

Not trying to be negative, but at 6-2 Blackmon looks like the biggest player on the floor. I’m from Chicago so I’m not too familiar with the conferences in Indiana. Does he play against good competition? Averaging close to 40 points a game is impressive regardless, but this video makes it look like he’s playing against scrubs.

Man is that jumper smooth though!

  • scb

He plays in the SAC, which includes all the big Fort Wayne schools. I believe Blackmon’s school (Luers) has the smallest enrollment in the conference, and the biggest public schools probably have 3x the enrollment of Luers. Usually at least a few D1 talents in the conference, this year no exception.

  • Daren Collentine

I live in Fort Wayne and there is usually pretty good talent here. Blackmon goes to the same high school that Deshaun Thomas went to if that means anything.

  • Hoosierfan2335

Good lord that is a smooth jumpshot.

  • monskisprodigy

I was about to post the same exact thing. Something about the way he moves and releases the ball had me thinking of a young EJ. Glad I am not the only one who saw this.
