Film Session: Hulls’ dishes

On a night when he registered his 1,000th point in the cream and crimson, Jordan Hulls also tallied five assists — a few in impressive fashion.

A look at three such dishes in the latest edition of Film Session:

I. Hulls looks to get an entry pass into Cody Zeller:

With nothing doing he swings it to Victor Oladipo. Zeller comes up from the post area and sets a ball screen for Oladipo:

He drives right and kicks Hulls. He shoots a 3-pointer:

Hulls misses, but follow his shot and grabs the rebound:

He zips a nifty pass into Zeller, as the defensive isn’t quite reset:

Zeller dunks it home for two points:

The Hoosiers gobbled up 55.2% of their misses Thursday night, and here was Hulls getting in on the action with that and creating a second-chance opportunity for his teammate.

Video:

II. Zeller and Oladipo set up on the right high post, as Yogi Ferrell brings the action their way:

Oladipo breaks up top and receives a pass from Ferrell:

Oladipo passes it to Hulls on the left wing and curls around to the hoop:

Hulls tosses it up to Oladipo:

Who puts it in the hoop:

Video:

III. Hulls grabs a defensive rebound and the Hoosiers, as they do, are off to the races:

Hulls, at halfcourt, whips a no-look pass towards the frontcourt:

Watford — who appeared to maybe not have been expecting it right away — is able to gather:

And score on the other side of the basket:

Pretty.

As I said to everyone who said Hulls should get less minutes, Jordan is the key to winning a national championship this year. He just knows how to flat out win.

Good stuff. I still would like Victor to run the point sometimes. Very effective last year. Off topic, how does UCLA get Shabazz reinstated and our guys dont?

  • KevOMG

I was LIVID upon hearing that yesterday. LIVID I SAY!

  • Drewp1

Yeah, unbelievable. I want an explanation.

This is what lawyers are for. 9 AM Monday the NCAA opens its door to an injunction… A clear case of discrimination.

Does your opinion count? Go to NCAA.com, click on feedback at the bottom of the page and you get to vent.

  • Evansville Hoosier

I would say this is a good thing, maybe if Shabazz won his appeal our guys can too.

  • Drewp1

One can hope. His appeal was decided pretty quick. Still waiting for ours. Not a good sign IMO

After seeing this I went on a pretty good comment bender on the thread previous to this one. b_side told me to google LA Times Shabazz Airplane to gain a pretty good idea of how the BS of him getting reinstated, immediately, happened. Also Dana O’Neil has a really good article about this over on the ESPN site she also points out some other interesting things.

Word of warning though, if you’re already really PO’ed at the mafia that goes by the name of the ncaa, or if your blood pressure is already too high, then you might not want to read this stuff

We can talk about how IU is getting screwed again by the NCAA vs their three game suspension on Shabazz or go to NCAA.com, click on ‘feedback’ at the bottom of the page and leave your opinion with them. And now we have a bigger problem. CTC showed poor ‘leadership’ when he picked up the gum. A Major Infraction like that will require at least a five game suspension…

Sorry, I didnt mean to highjack the thread. Just mad as heck. Film session is really good.

  • Dagwoods

Maybe people will start believing in the value of senior leadership now.

  • chiswede

Have they decided our appeal yet?

  • MisterSlippery

Hulls is the epitome of a Hoosier here and a thuggish, ruggish bone. He shows confidence, which will be needed against better teams. Sam Houston State looks like they could beat Purdoo, but so does everyone. When a scrub like DJ Byrd is your best player, than you are truly a piece of crap.

Guys, I intend to have my “FREE PETER” t-shirts (“FREE HANNER” on the back) for sale soon. Ladies, you’ll get tank tops with their last names also;)

  • IUMIKE1

Went there, done that. Trust me, they have no doubt how I see this situation.

27 pts, 11-20 shooting, 1-3 from arc, 4-8 from line, 18 rebs, 1 steal, 2 assists, in 31 mins for Noah Vonleh in the first game of his high school season.

I love how you can clearly hear Crean yell out the play on the second video and see the guys just jump right into it and execute it so well. Coach was obviously very pleased with it as well.

These Film Session posts, among other bits of analysis, are a huge reason why I feel like I’ve become such a better and more knowledgeable basketball fan since I started regularly reading this site three or four years ago. Keep it up guys, fantastic stuff.

Don’t count on it, we’re not giving them their kick back.
