2013 five-star forward Noah Vonleh shuffles visit schedule

Class of 2013 five-star forward Noah Vonleh will not take an official visit to Syracuse this weekend as originally planned, according to his high school coach.

Pete Hutchins, the head coach at the New Hampton School, told Inside the Hall today via text message that the visit Syracuse visit has not been rescheduled at this point.

Vonleh, who will make an official visit to Bloomington the weekend of Nov. 9-11, has added an official visit to Ohio State on the weekend following Thanksgiving.

The Indiana visit will be his first official visit.

The Bloomington trip should afford Vonleh the opportunity to take in a game day atmosphere for basketball and football. Indiana plays its season opener against Bryant on Friday, Nov. 9 and the football team hosts Wisconsin at noon on Saturday, Nov. 10.

The Hoosiers, along with Connecticut, Georgetown, North Carolina, Ohio State and Syracuse, are the final six schools in the mix for Vonleh.

Following his decision to reclassify from 2014 to his original class of 2013 in September, Hutchins said Indiana was doing the most thorough job of recruiting Vonleh.

“Indiana has probably done the most thorough job of recruiting him thus far since they started recruited him when Kenny Johnson took the job,” Hutchins said.

At June’s NBPA Top 100 Camp in Charlottesville, Virginia, Vonleh said Indiana’s player development has impressed him.

“They have some good players that could possibly go to the NBA,” he said. “They develop players over there to get them ready for the next level.”

Three former IU players — Pat Knight, Mike Roberts and Tom Coverdale — played at the New Hampton School.

The only thing I can guarantee is that if Vonleh decided to pick IU (some outlets currently say IU is the clear favorite) then we will have a spot for him. I won’t speculate as to how but it’ll be there. Also, because of his age, many believe he won’t be a one-and-done so it just gives more incentive to make this happen.

  • HoosierGrad07

totally agree. I think Fischer is undervalued to an almost criminal level. He’s gonna be a solid contributor for at least 3 years for us.

  • HoosierGrad07

Who? Jaquan Lyle? Yeah, I heard we made his top 10 recently. He’ll be a nice addition in 2014. :)

Agree with all of that. It seems like some people on this thread think there’s no possible way that guys like Hartman, Davis, or Etherington would ever consider NOT playing at Indiana, even if that meant basically never seeing the floor in meaningful spots. Call me crazy, but I bet they all have enough faith and pride in their games that they want to be in a situation where they feel like they’re making an impact. So if something happens in the future and Hartman and/or Davis doesn’t sign or Etherington transfers, don’t just start typing angry about Crean and what you THINK the program is doing wrong. Give the kids enough credit to at least consider they might want to choose a program they can make an impact with. Crean might know that already, which is why he keeps recruiting.

    That is all…

Vonleh and Williams but no Anya? If CZ leaves, then we’re really thin in the middle. Jurkin will be a defensive presence but not much offense; Fischer probably won’t be ready for a year or two. Of course Perea or Vonleh can play center against non conference or even lower level B10 teams, but do you really think they’ll be able to defend a wide and/or skilled 6’11″ (or more) center?

  • HoosierGrad07

We only assume they have been planning on attending Indiana for the last two years. We only know a small part of the actual process. So much is happening behind the scenes of every player, whether they are committed or not (see: Trey Lyles).

    We….just….don’t….know.

Love this kid. He’s going to be solid.

  • marcusgresham

That’s what still gives me hope for periodic onslaughts of the fullcourt press.

    We got tickets?

Exactly, couldn’t agree more. Beside the fact that he looked sluggish in every highlight video I ever watched of him, for some reason he always gave me the impression that he was the type of guy who could potentially eat his way out of the lineup (See Glen “Big Baby” Davis).

thats a good way to get ourselves back on sanctions. its a very fine line youre talking here and one that ctc probably wont want to cross

if they expected to go to iu on scholarship before they signed then they’re naive. someone used an airplane ticket analogy above that was off base so i’ll modify. once u sign it’s like buying a ticket. u expect to board ur flight. but if u only give a verbal without signing it’s like adding the flight to cart but not checking out. u might not get a chance to buy that same ticket later. these kids should know their verbals arent a done deal until they sign. btw i think fischer will be a good asset for iu

we were troys last visit. no reason for vonleh to not explore his other options

  • Weaz

We just backed off of Anya…. So It is VERY clear that Vonleh is the last piece for the 2013 class… If we get him we will be UNREAL… no, really, He is a 1 and done type talent…

no way DD is a guard

  • CreanFaithful

Is the city on the coast? No. But NY is east coast sir. Syracuse experienced gusts of 70-80 miles an hour and severe weather all the way into Buffalo and Toronto. Check the news

  • Matt S

… and by this weekend, when the visit was scheduled to take place, all that’s left of Sandy in Syracuse will be a slight chance of rain with winds of only 15 MPH. I googled “Syracuse” and “Sandy” and the first result was an article headlined “Sandy took it easy on Onondaga County”. That article reported an inch of rain and minor wind damage. We’re all guessing in the dark here, but I seriously doubt Vonleh’s decision was weather related.

  • The_Real_Assembly_Hall

Totally agree and feel he could be the most solid get of a 4 year type of player recently.

  • marcusgresham

I don’t know if you’d feel this way if you’d have seen him in person. He’s not fat; he’s a beast. His neck alone is as thick as a tree trunk. Meeks I could see having a weight problem, but I don’t get that impression from Anya.
I wonder if this could be Crean’s indication that he may expect Zeller to return for a 3rd season. If you’ve got to decide between Anya and Vonleh, the power/low-post guy is not nearly as important when you have the potential reigning POY down there.

  • marcusgresham

I have a dream! A dream that, in a very short time, we can stop speculating about recruits and scholarships and turn our attention to on-court activities. I have a dream!

  • The_Real_Assembly_Hall

Does anyone else really realize that it is now basketball season? Dumb question I know, but this is a special moment that does not come along very often. Cheers to everyone on the site and enjoy all the fun thanks to CTC and all of the players, managers, and staff at IU. Good luck to the women as well. When both programs are on top both programs will feed each other and be a promotion machine. There is no reason for the women’s team to not a perennial top 10 team and I can’t wait for them either. GO IU!!!!

I went to college an hour south of Syracuse. People there didn’t consider NY east cost unless you’re talking NYC or LI. Semantics aside, Syracuse was not affected by Sandy like the east coast cities were. No flooding or outages. Airport remained open. They had bad weather, sure, but you don’t cancel an important event in 7 days just because weather is bad today. I’m not saying Noah is losing interest in SU. He might have had personal reasons for why he couldn’t make it to SU this weekend, but his trip cancellation likely wasn’t weather related, unless he also had the misconception that the entire state of NY is east coast and that Sandy would hover over NY for a week.

  • CreanFaithful

OK. I’m glad this debate is finished… I work in logistics and knew that they had experienced some weather this week. I was not saying that was in fact the reason for the cancellation. Just throwing an idea out there. No one knew for sure what sort of weather would follow with certainty…

  • CreanFaithful

Also, I am very mid west… which apparently shows

  • Beard

Remy willing and Abell said it below, the students at the football game need to chant Noah Vonleh during the football game, that would be great. I don’t mean to intrude on the football game which will be a very important one obviously, but lets get this kid. A win against Wisconsin and against Bryant on the court would be great.

There’s always room for a no doubt, future lottery pick, top-10 talent. Most everyone on this site has no freaking clue what is going on behind the scenes and rightfully so. So many people on here are getting ANGRY we are recruiting the best players in the country. When Hartman and Davis committed, we were lucky to get them. No one wanted to play here. We’ve seen what happened with Lyles…say Fischer, heaven forbid, de-commits, Zeller goes pro, VO goes pro, Creek gets hurt, Etherington transfers, Hanner ruled ineligible. Thats 6 scholarships!!!

Now my point isn’t that all that is going to happen, but ALL of those scenarios are quite possible. Yogi could blow up and could be a late first round draft pick next year!!! But CTC has to plan for years and years out with all these possibilities. if we don’t have studs lined up then everyone on here would be whining that CTC stopped recruiting and now we have no one to step up. Worry about this season!

I AM SO SICK OF ALL THE SCHOLARSHIP BITCHING ON HERE. SO SICK. SO SICK. LET CTC DO HIS JOB AND YOU BE FANS. Again, we have no idea what’s going on behind the scenes and until it blows up Sampson-style, be happy we’re #1, be happy we have Zeller followed by Yogi followed by Williams/Vonleh (hopefully).
