Indiana tops preseason Associated Press top 25 poll

As expected, Indiana is the No. 1 team in the preseason Associated Press top 25 poll released today after receiving 43 of 65 first-place votes from a panel of national media. The Hoosiers are also No. 1 in the preseason USA Today/ESPN coaches top 25 poll.

Indiana’s last appearance at No. 1 in the Associated Press top 25 poll came during the 1992-93 season.

This is the third time Indiana has opened as the preseason No. 1 team in the AP poll.

Indiana is the king of college basketball; KY is the king of NBA Lottery basketball; Louisville is the king of “not” student-athlete basketball. It will be great to watch this struggle between rival concepts for a program. All centered in the “Mecca” triangle for basketball. The good guys are wearing candy-stripes!

    Amen brother!

I’d much rather listen to fish …..It’s hard to do here in Louisville ( very poor reception ) . But man , I’ve heard that voice every winter for all my life !

Yeah KU is Kansas , UK is the other place where academics are last .

Alex just wondered if the voting was done before knowing Indiana my not have a whole team rumor is that we may not have the use of couple players and walk on and now Derek is hurt how can they still pick us number 1?
Have you heard anything that would make this rumor go away kinda sick and tired of having players that we can not use for a season?

Early prediction if the other team makes the tournament—–1 seed Indiana vs. 16 seed Lamar

  • Evansville Hoosier

Irrelevant. Will’s injury isn’t serious enough to be a problem, and Perea/Elston injuries shouldn’t hinder us as a team too much (I still think Perea will play the majority of the year)

Me too! I live in Lanesville so I feel your pain. I went to Hubers this past summer for the Tailgate Tour dinner. I wanted to get Fish’s autograph just as bad as Coach Crean’s.

In my lifetime it has always been Indiana, Purdue, & Michigan as the great B1G powers. In the last 10 years that has changed to Michigan St., Ohio St., & Wisconsin. It’s awesome to see Indiana & Michigan back on top and I don’t mind Purdue being down a few years while Indiana chases taking the most B1G regular season champions lead from them.

We have good coaches in the B1G and great players in the Midwest. B1G will stay the toughest & best conference especially if we end up with 5 or 6 power houses year in and year out. Here’s looking at many great seasons to come, TOAST!

It would be nice to get a little more love from the media down here in the southern part of the state and in the Louisville metro area.

I could be wrong but it seems the media can be very stubborn about recognizing Indiana and all of these positives about the program except when they want to make the college basketball triangle remark. Then of course they acknowledge Indiana because without us there would be no triangle. Especially when it comes from the Louisville camp. There just seems to be a jealous tone from their side based on their clear understanding of reality.

The reality is Indiana is back and their play time is over. Indiana has a lot of work to do down here as there is way too much support for Louisville and Kentucky north of the river in Indiana territory.

On the flip side Alex’s dad Rick has had some very good things to say about Indiana recently. Feels. good to hear him speak highly of Indiana.

You got it dead on. We know it but others fail to admit that Indiana basketball is the lifeblood of Big Ten basketball. IU elevates the Big Ten from a power conference to the powerhouse basketball conference.

It must be tough living in a Kentucky media market. I’m glad I don’t.

this is off topic, but i had to drop the shout-out–BOZICH!!! Your comments i guess from twitter posted in the top right about IU football Wilson/Trudeau are HILARIOUS!!!! LOVE IT!!!

I thought I was in the minority of those who LOVED Coach Wilson’s GRIDIRON attitude on taking taking garbage from those two nit-wits on the radio about IU!!!

    GO HOOSIERS!!!!

  • The_Real_Assembly_Hall

    Cheers to that!

Not easy and it is like living as an outcast in my own state it is so thick. I am sure the fans around Lafayette, South Bend, and the other borders go through the same. It is down right putrid around here sometimes though.

  • The_Real_Assembly_Hall

    No harm in scouting.

  • catronhoosier

Born and raised in Lafayette and I had to hear it all the time. Especially the last 5 or so years when Purdue was very good and we were in the gutter. However it is funny when i talk to my friends now (all of whom are purdue fans) and they don’t wanna bring up basketball or even football anymore. I wonder why?

You have no idea. There are 4 options for sports talk on the radio. One is pretty much all U of L and the others are one or the other. There is no IU station or even program available. At least when Rick Bozich was doing his show he’d hit on IU periodically (and was always entertaining,) but he hasn’t been on the radio in a few years.
The one that kills me the most is the Matt Jones show on 1080. He’s the biggest brown-nosing, name-dropping, UK shill on the planet and everyone knows that; the disappointing thing is that his co-host is Ryan Lemond. Ryan was born & raised in Otwell, in Pike Co., IN, and was a die-hard IU fan his entire life (I worked with him at channel 7 in Evansville—best guy you’ll ever know,) but now is a sportscaster in Lexington and is right there with Jones.

Why are reporters asking CTC about Hanner and Peter being eligible to play?

I used to live a few blocks from Rupp Arena…I work in Frankfort now so is fun to sport IU gear on Fridays now up in the Capitol.

They haven’t been officially cleared yet by the NCAA Clearinghouse. Should happen in early November before the first exhibition vs. Bryant.

  • Drewp1

Why is Perea and Jurkins eligibility up in the air? I read on google, but i dont get The Herald Times. Thats where the story is.

    Thanks. What a relief.

  • marcusgresham

The NCAA Clearinghouse operates like it was a joint effort between the DMV and the IRS.
