Marcus Lee sets date for official visit to Indiana

2013 Deer Valley (Antioch, CA) forward Marcus Lee recently trimmed his list of schools to seven and now is beginning to set up his official visit dates for the fall.

According to Adam Zagoria, Lee will visit Louisville on Sept. 20, Kentucky on Oct. 12 and Indiana on Oct. 20.

Lee is also considering California, Duke, Kansas and UCLA.

As for the timing of Lee’s visit, the official start of practice for college basketball this season is Friday, Oct. 12, but Indiana has not made an announcement yet on specifics for this year’s Hoosier Hysteria.

Fall break for students is Oct. 12-14, so it’s possible the first public practice could be pushed to another weekend to accomodate the break.

Last fall, Indiana held Hoosier Hysteria on a Saturday night as Gary Harris made his official visit following a Friday night football game for Hamilton Southeastern. And two years ago, a “Night of the Living Red” scrimmage was held on a Friday night during Cody Zeller’s official visit which was two weeks after the start of practice.

Given the importance of having public scrimmages or practices to highlight fan support for the program to recruits, the weekend of Oct. 20 looks like a prime candidate for such an event.

Fall Break is only one extra day. No one is leaving, kids will stick around on 3 day weekends only to party an extra day. Besides, we have a home game that Saturday – Ohio State nonetheless. Turnout for Hoosier Hysteria will be great if they have it on that weekend (as they should). Looks like Kentucky has the upper hand as they have him visiting during their “midnight madness”.

This guy is gonna be a Hoosier, i think he will commit within two weeks after the visit

  • Evansville Hoosier

well, it looks as though hes basically named a top 3. I think this is fantastic news. He’s the player I’d like to sign the most in the class, and if this IS his top 3, I like that we have the last visit of those 3. I think he’s a good compliment to Luke, a very skilled guy who doesn’t quite have the bounce that Lee has. I think Lee, Stan, Luke, and Devin make for a multi-talented class, and I think Hartman provides a shooter’s presence as well. signing Lee would be the highlight of the recruiting season, and I feel as though we’re getting closer to that.

Our good friend Mr. Osterman believes otherwise on Hysteria being held that weekend: http://indiana.247sports.com/Board/144/What-Im-hearing-on-Hoosier-Hysteria-11551526/1

I think Marcus would make a perfect final addition to our 2013 class. He is much more athletic than Bejay Anya and is much better at shot blocking without committing fouls. He fits real good with our up-tempo style of play. It will be a tough recruiting battle given the top names left on his list. I am not really liking the use of our Midnight Madness being set around one recruit. We are good enough to set a date and let the recruits that are interested come. Last year did not work out so well for getting Harris. This way all the recruits feel special and you know they are really interested.

Gotta have this guy in my opinion.

  • Indiana_Banners

I don’t think this is a top 3. Duke is almost sure to get a visit, and could end up getting his last official visit. IMO Duke leads for him right now, but I think he also holds Indiana in high esteem.

I can definitely see changing to accommodate a highly regarded recruit (like we did for Gary Harris). To think that attendance would be low because of the break would be wrong though (not that many students leave for the other 3 day weekends like Labor Day & MLK Day – a lot more reasons to stay for this one). Any drop from students (if any) would easily be picked up by the alumni coming for the football game. (Can’t you tell I want it to start as soon as possible?)

I don’t feel like they are using Hoosier Hysteria towards another recruit this year yet. It is stated at the top that HH is probably being moved back a week due to the students fall break. With Lee visiting, I think the convenience factor comes into play with where HH falls.

I still think Lee is a “long-shot” for the Hoosiers..but certainly worth taking a shot at him.

Thanks for posting that. Shared it on Twitter.

    My Hoosier Hysteria Storylines……

    1. Will All day Anya visit the same day as Lee?
    2. Will 2014 former IU recruit Trey Lyles visit…and if he doesn’t where will he be?
    3. How many national prospects will visit IU that weekend? Pinson, Semi, Troy Williams, Vonleh etc.
    4. If IU’s Hoosier Hysteria is NOT the same night as others, will it get the national attention it should….
    5. How will the 2015 and 2016 guest list look
    6. Most importantly…..who will get the benefit of a ‘recruit chant’….struck out with Gary Harris last year….not surprising……

  • SCHoosier

I think Trey was quoted as saying that he might visit for some games..but wanted to concentrate on his upcoming season and wouldn’t take “official visits” until before or during his senior year.

Hopefully, it will be on the 20th. I checked hotels for the 13th a few weeks ago, and everything was already booked because of the OSU visitors. Plus, the rates were really jacked up for that weekend. I make/made an annual pilgrimage to attend Hoosier hysteria/Midnight Madness. Time to recheck the hotels rates for the 20th.

As far as national attention goes, Jeff Goodman from CBS listed us among his top 3 schools he’s considering attending. Our two “friendly” neighbors down south being the others.

  • marcusgresham

Not only that, but in fairness to him, he knows what IU has to offer so I hope the huddled masses don’t flake out and start posting stupidity if he happens to go somewhere else that night.

  • Evansville Hoosier

I’m gonna use that, don’t sue me

  • IUCubFan

Agree Marcus! Some of our fellow Hoosier fans are so whiny and dramatic. Trey would be amazing to have still, but I am sure Crean will have a plan in place in case. What are we going to be missing if he doesn’t come, besides an awesome interior force. One great year of college.

  • Devout Hoosier

It won’t be Midnight Madness a week AFTER practice starts. We attend to wish them well and energize the team as well as a first look. After a week I can’t guarantee I’ll attend this year. I’ve been to more of these than I can count and I hope they keep the tradition alive.

Last year I watched as one entire side of the balcony filled. There must have been 13,000 there. If they move it, I seriously doubt that will happen this year. We’ll see.

  • marcusgresham

I’ll be there, regardless of what day it is unless I have a scheduling conflict. I was there last year too, for the first time, with my 12 year-old daughter (only the 2nd time I’d ever been in the Hall, her first,) and all we had to begin last year was hope. This year there’s legitimate expectations along with that hope, and I don’t want to miss a chance to soak up that energy (also don’t want to miss seeing my little cousin in her IU women’s jersey for the first time.)

Besides, it’s not “Midnight Madness,” it’s “Hoosier Hysteria,” and that’s not time-specific, it’s a 24/7 condition; if there is an antidote I don’t want it.

Do you have a link for that Goodman quote ?

    BeeJay, BeeJay, BeeJay!!!

  • b_side

For some reason, I thought Louisville was part of the mix, but clearly not. Looks like it’s just us vs.” them”. FYI, no link, just a Tweet:

    Jeff Goodman ?@GoodmanCBS
Louisville doesn’t have Midnight Madness. Leaders in clubhouse are: Indiana and KY. Other possibilities: Missouri, Arizona, ‘Cuse, UNLV.

You have to be realistic too. What would be his objectives for year 3 and 4, if you were him? Another two free master degrees? He reaches his height as a college player by end of this season, and he has to move on. It’s better for IU if he stays but better for him to leave after this year. You don’t want to see him get injured before pro life even starts do you? And I’m seeing him more of an effect that pulling more talents into our system, instead of serving for 4 years by himself. He already values education more than NBA. There’s nothing else to ask from this kid.

  • inLinE6

I know it’s a tough question but how many of you prefer Lee over Anya? I know we want both but unfortunately that’s not going to happen. I personally see Lee a better fit into our system.
