· Elite 2014 point guard Tyus Jones updates recruitment
My god he is good…I just hope he is seriously considering IU. If he visits our chances raise exponentially.
A taller Yogi? He will have immediate impact on the team from day 1.
This kid is so bad he can wear pink shoes and nobody notice. Probably a one-and-done type player. Reminds me a little of Derrick Rose. He would be a great replacement for Yogi. Bloomington is a great place to spend one year of your life. It is a great place to spend 4-5 years of your life. Be part of the “new movement” (class of 2014) Tyus. What a great job CTC is doing in recruiting top-tier players from all over the country. You are not going to get them all, just enough to be really good every year.
Better get to Okafor, too if we want a chance with him.
I’d give up two scholarships for this guy. Three? Maybe three.
Tyus is a one year guy school regardless which school he picks. Like Rose, he’s a consensus top-5 national prospect.
This guy is an absolute beast. Even if he only stays 1 year at IU, he’ll bring us a championship. IMO he’s better than Okafor and Wiggins ranked ahead of him, but rankings don’t really matter. Point guards have a much bigger impact on the rest of the team. He’ll make our whole team so much better. He’s the best point guard I’ve seen in a very long time, which presents a dilemma: what happens to Yogi? Yogi is too small to be anything other than PG, and it would be a defensive liability playing both him and Jones at the same time. So we’d ask him to warm the bench for a year and play some minutes if Jones needs a breather and gets into foul trouble?
we better offer okafor because this guy is the real deal. definitely love how he plays the game. gets to the basket with almost no effort, kind of like derrick rose. would love to see him in cream and crimson in a few years!
I’d love to have him..BUT…. Hes not coming to IU. The only way i can see this being a possibility is if we offer Jahlil Okafor and win a Nat. Championship this year. I think we’ve entered this sweepstakes too late in the game to be a real player. Maybe get Jones, Anya, Okafor, and the committed 13′ &14′ recruits to visit for the UNC game. If i had to guess, I’d wager to say that Jones and Okafor end up at Duke or MSU.
I see more deron williams than I see Derrick Rose. He shoots and passes better than Rose did but the athleticism and overall ability are nowhere close.
Did I watch the same video you guys did. This guy is maybe 6′ 0″ tall and actually reminds me of Jordan Hulls from this last year. Now, I know he is only a Junior in HS to be and is more athletic than Hulls, but he is no Derrick Rose and I doubt he will be one and done. I am probably wrong though.
This kid can shoot (and from deep), so there’s no reason why Yogi and Tyus couldn’t be on the court at the same time. Not only would that be the fastest backcourt in the B1G, it would probably be the fastest backcourt in the nation.
I’m seeing Tony Parker. Constant threat against the interior defense. The floater is so key. Parker is much faster but maybe not as crafty with the ball.
I agree with the Tony Parker comparison, but I see a smaller and faster jason Kidd with a jumper. I’d like to see him at IU, but I don’t see it with Yogi and Stanford and James Blackmon already in the mix and Lyle and Coleman and the stud whose name I can’t recall from Gary being possibilities. We need wings and bigs in 2014 and 2015.
My ankles are sore just from watching this.
It’s the National Championship game. Trey Lyles is in foul trouble due to horrible calls. The other team gets hot. Once up by 12, #1 Indiana is now down by 8.
Coach Crean calls timeout. The hostile crowd goes nuts, smelling blood. Crean ignores everyone else, and pulls freshman guard Tyus Jones aside. Looks him right in the eyes.
“Everything we talked about is now. This is your moment. This is your game. Go get it.”
TJ takes over, scoring at will, and driving past defenders like they were nailed to the floor. He drops 40 points on a shell-shocked opponent, and Indiana rolls for another banner. Final score: 106-72.
The next day, the top 4 recruits in the country give verbals to IU.
I think I’d prefer a Hyron over a one and done guy.
Yeah, I think you did watch the wrong video. Keep in mind that this was at the Peach Jam against the best talent in the country.
The UNC game is at North Carolina I believe.
I don’t know what you are drinkin”but send me the lable:)
If any kid deserves the nickname “slick”..it would be this guy. Notice that he doesn’t yet use his left hand going to the hole..but has a killer cross over..and a pretty good mid-range jump shot.HOpe IU gets a real shot at him…but if he gets a little bigger..the one and done label wil probably fit.
It’s at assembly hall.
+ Damn quick
+ Changes directions very well
+ Good vision
+ Finishes with either hand
+ Form looks good on his shot (I’d say “good shooter” but it is a highlight reel so there could be as many or more misses. I’d bet he is a good shooter though.)
+ Finishes at all three levels (jumper, pull-up, all the way to the hole)
+ Didn’t look like he had to put forth a lot of effort to elevate high enough to dunk two-handed
+ Great passer
– Looks to me like he’s getting away with a lot of carries
– Seems a bit “shoot first” (but then again it looked to be working)
– Kennedy Meeks has had bigger things on a bun than this kid
Does anyone know if we have given an offer to Okafor? It’s not too late since he’s only going to be a junior this year, but he needs to visit.
If he doesn’t have an offer by now he probably won’t get one from IU.
Kids are not into the package deal as much as we think…the Okafor connection may be a little over blown.
I totally agree that he’s better than Okafor but not Wiggins. Wiggins is unanimously the best player by all scouting services for a reason. I hope Kentucky doesn’t land any of these kids.
I think he is an excellent high school player. Will be a very good college player. But a lot of that stuff won’t fly at the next level. I like the bigger Yogi comparison, but he is only 2 inches taller. I just thought posters on here were over reacting about this guy. I would love to have him at IU.
I watched some of his games that were streamed online. He was blowing by defenders like they were standing still and he still had another gear or two that he didn’t need to use. He finishes at the rim with his left or right hand and has an absolute killer floater that had bigs shaking their head. He looked to get teammates involved early and then in crunch time he took over. He will be a big time player in college and has the potential to be a very good pro.
I’ll name my first born son Tyus if that’s what it takes
He’s not as quick as Yogi but has all the same skills:
1) Can go left or right and put in on the glass and pass with either hand.
2) Good lift on his shot and good form.
3) Head up all the time and finds guys in the open court.
I’d love to have this kid in candy stripes before J. Lyle but I’m afraid he is a package deal with Okafor so if we want him we better offer Jahlil too! They say they’re not but then they talk about a college dream team.
Anyway, I don’t think Yogi will leave early because of his size so it would be unbelievable to have Yogi and TJ on the same team. IU would definitely have the best backcourt in the nation when you add in Blackman, Robinson, and others!!!
Any reason IU isn’t interested in 2013 pg Demetrius Jackson from South Bend? Kid is a beast.
Come to the Hoosiers Tyus!
