Great interview. Proud to see the passion, dedication and work ethic Derek shows for basketball and school as well. Hoping for a great final season for this young man.

Nice interview, DE. I hope you have a memorable (for all the right reasons) fourth year. And congrats on your degree-a true student-athlete!

One of the many things I like about the IU basketball program, especially during the Crean era is the class, humility and sense of comraderie that these IU players seem to posses. I have not seen this in many other programs, at least, to this extent. It will endear IU to the rest of the college basketball world and leave an impression to all who follow it. IU and Crean seem to have it fugured out…GO IU!!

Just a wonderful student athlete what an Indiana Basketball player is all about. Hoping for a great season. I have no doubt this young man will do well after IU. Glad to see the passion is still there though I know it also run through Coach as well. That is also wanting to play here. I wish the senior class all the best and can not wait for the season to get started…

This type of maturity shows how far Derik has come. If he can contribute on a regular basis the Hoosiers may one of the deepest teams in the country. Always loved his fire, now being tempered with a positive outlook DE’s senior season will be a great one!

Awesome job , well done . I love what Crean is doing with these guys in the classroom . What parent wouldnt want to send their son to IU , play for a top 5 team , graduate in 3 years , and get started on a masters . Derek , Jordy and Christian can really focus on Ballin now . What a contrast to programs like Kentucky .

“How are we just gonna bully teams around?” Beautiful

Sounds like he is ready to finally reach his full potential. Always been a big Derek fan more so based on how could I thought he could be. Really hope for him to have a great year he has certainly earned it.

With all the talk about IU being number #1..Cody/NBA and “the movement”..DE has been overlooked. He’s obviously leaner…motivated and a very real potential offensive threat. I think we’ll see some really big games from him this season. Given the effort and maturity he is showing..I hope he knocks ’em dead.

He needs a face tat and a felony charge to go with that masters. Elston is out street cred. Go Hoosiers!

Derek has really grown into a solid young man. Love he’s playing at a lighter weight, should stay healthier as a result.

  • Derek, like a few of the seniors last year, has and I am guessing, will continue to see his playing time diminish over the course of his career… BUT, this has not kept him or last years seniors from doing what is best for the team.. and the beautiful thing is, I truly think he is proud to accept his role. The irony of the “The Team, The Team, The Team” sign in the background is priceless. Crean has obviously done an excellent job of guiding the team and molding their mindsets to live and play by a team first mentality. It showed last year down the stretch and I think it will pay huge dividends this year as well. Guys like Derek make me proud to be a Hoosier!

Living in Tipton Ive had the pleasure of knowing Derek personally and I can tell you that he deserves the success that he and the team are having. Hes always been a kind young man who always took time to listen to people who were excited to be around him. Some people on here said he was immature and I defended him on that because they didnt know him personally but Ive never defended his performance on the court as it spoke for itself good or bad. This is a person who yould be happy to root for if you knew him personally. I want to say congrats to you Derek in all your suceess and job well done. You have represented Tipton very well and we are very proud of you my freind and Angel and Quenton say hello. You come from a great family and I knew you could do it. Now go out and bring back a national title for the state of Indiana and IU fans everywhere.
