WDRB.com: NBA Draft Can Wait For Cody Zeller At Indiana

Zeller could have been in New York City with his brother, Tyler, a former star at North Carolina, and the 13 other players the league invited to the draft Thursday night.

Instead, the day opened with Zeller parked on the bench press in the Cook Hall weight room. He pushed 185 pounds 20 times, a personal record and eight more reps than Zeller could handle when he arrived at IU from Washington (Ind.) High School a year ago.

“Might have to text Tyler about that,” Zeller said, with a wink. “I think he only got 16 in Chicago (at the NBA Draft combine).”

Here’s what I want to know: Will Cody be able to finish his degree by the end of next summer. If he’s able to do that, maybe his goal all along was to graduate in 2 years. If it takes him a 3rd year to graduate, I think that helps the chances of him staying for 3 years. I also wonder if his decision might be affected by how we do. If he leaves after we win the title, I’ll be ok with that.

So Cody is gonna start tossing up 3’s? Alright. I like it. As long as he puts up at least 8 boards a game, he can do what he wants. He’s great at taking his man off the dribble from the perimeter, and if he can hit 3’s, it’ll be even easier for him.

Maybe he’ll participate in the 3 point contest at Hoosier hysteria?

I saw video of CZ and AE lifting about a month ago. Both are getting stronger.
CZ is going to be a beast. He is just now entering the age where most males develop their strength. Cody has 4 more months to put on another 10 pounds of muscle. I could see him being 6’11” 245 come Novemeber 1st.
Pretty cool that he and Tyler are very similar builds and CZ has built more muscle in 1 year than Tyler did in 4. Keep up the good work IU and CTC.

I thought Cody would have a good, solid freshman year. I was wrong, he had a great year. I thought he would possibly finish his degree in three years. I was wrong, he is on track for 2 1/2 years. I thought it would take him at least 2 years to gain the weight and muscle necessary to compete in the B1G. I was wrong, he is there. I thought he would be at IU for at least 3 years. I have no idea now and I’m ok with that. It’s time to enjoy every game he plays this season. He is not your average student or athlete.

would love to see cody step out and hit 8 to 12 feet and nail jumpers left and right…we all know he has a beautiful stroke..the funny thing is most of the country does not

  • I thought he won it last year. I think he was in the final 3 at least.

Did you catch the “i think…”? I guarantee you that both Cody and Tyler know the exact number that the other one got!

Is Cody in the b-school? If so no way he gets a degree in two years! Its three minimum based on the requirements for graduation no matter how many credits he came in with because those would only apply to some pre-requisites an maybe some general education courses. The talk of a two year graduation is kinda silly

His “goal all along” is to win an NCAA Championship! But after you win 1 (in your first 2 years) why not go for back-to-back Championships and 2 times player of the year? I can only think of Bill Russell, Lew Alcindor, and Bill Walton who deserved it. But Russell played before the Naismith (it started in1969); Alcinder’s senior year was 1969; so only Bill Walton won back-to-back NCAA Championships and Naismith Awards. Pretty good company.

I think Cody leaves with degree in hand after his junior year.

Crean said a couple months ago that CZ was halfway done with his requirements.

You have to factor in three summers if coursework too. That’s a full yr of classes so it is possible.

  • marcusgresham

Etherington won it. If I remember correctly he beat Elston in the final.

  • AP credits could help put a dent in some things.
I’m not sure how early he could take icore, which you supposedly need to do before concentration classes. Even with 2 full years & 3 full loads of summer classes, unless he took 8 AP classes in HS, it’s going to take him 2.5 years.
